Sinopse do filme - Em 1897 uma vila parece ser o local ideal para viver: tranquila, isolada e com os moradores vivendo em harmonia. Porém este local perfeito passa por mudanças quando os habitantes descobrem que o bosque que o cerca esconde uma raça de misteriosas e perigosas criaturas, por eles chamados de "Aquelas de Quem Não Falamos". O medo de ser a próxima vítima destas criaturas faz com que nenhum habitante da vila se arrisque a entrar no bosque. Apesar dos constantes avisos de Edward Walker (William Hurt), o líder local, e de sua mãe (Sigourney Weaver), o jovem Lucius Hunt (Joaquin Phoenix) tem um grande desejo de ultrapassar os limites da vida rumo ao desconhecido. Lucius é apaixonado por Ivy Walker (Bryce Dallas Howard), uma jovem cega que também atrai a atenção do desequilibrado Noah Percy (Adrien Brody). Suspense is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of certain actions, most often referring to an audience's perceptions in a dramatic work. Suspense is not exclusive to fiction, though. Suspense may operate in any situation where there is a lead-up to a big event or dramatic moment, with tension being a primary emotion felt as part of the situation. In the kind of suspense described by film director Alfred Hitchcock, an audience experiences suspense when they expect something bad to happen and have (or believe they have) a superior perspective on events in the drama's hierarchy of knowledge, yet they are powerless to intervene to prevent it from happening. In broader definitions of suspense, this emotion arises when someone is aware of his lack of knowledge about the development of a meaningful event; thus, suspense is a combination of anticipation and uncertainty dealing with the obscurity of the future. In terms of narrative expectations, it may be contrasted with mystery or curiosity and surprise. Suspense could however be some small event in a person's life, such as a child anticipating an answer to a request they've made, e.g., "May I get the kitty?". Therefore, suspense comes in many different sizes, big and small.

With the rise of television and the departures of Lewis and Autolite, subsequent producers (Antony Ellis, William N. Robson and others) struggled to maintain the series despite shrinking budgets, the availability of fewer name actors, and listenership decline. To save money, the program frequently used scripts first broadcast by another noteworthy CBS anthology, Escape. In addition to these tales of exotic adventure, Suspense expanded its repertoire to include more science fiction and supernatural content. By the end of its run, the series was remaking scripts from the long-canceled program The Mysterious Traveler. A time travel tale like Robert Arthur's "The Man Who Went Back to Save Lincoln" or a thriller about a death ray-wielding mad scientist would alternate with more run-of-the-mill crime dramas.
