Meet the Man Who Inspired Red Bull Rampage. Without a doubt, he's the gnarliest mountain biker who ever lived. MTB's first daredevil. He is the reason Red Bull Rampage exists. He is Josh Bender.
The man who refers to himself in third person put Virgin, Utah, on the map long before it became known as a freeride mecca. With trademark "huck and hope" mentality, hockey shoulder pads and a bizarre Karpiel 12-inch travel bike, Bender blazed a path through the earliest days of freeriding, eventually putting out a segment in the New World Disorder video series that stands as one of the most influential of all time. He could snipe tricky landings, ride crazy fast, and he built many of the original Rampage-winning features that other riders used on their way to the podium.

Approached to build a vertical 6 metre high architectural gabion wall to form the back drop for an outdoor entertainment area, and then told that the inset build had to take no more than 8 weeks and must occur in conjunction with all other aspects of the stage construction at the same time. Hmmmmm, this required some lateral thinking. It was concluded that the only way it could be done was to prefabricate as much of the wall as possible, prior to the stage construction commencing. This meant that Gabion baskets between the collums had to be prebuilt leaving only the collum infills and archway to be built insitu. The difficulty was that while pre-built had been done before, the finish required had to be maintained to a high standard. Months later and numerous trials under the bealt and a method of construction that produced the high asthetic standard being sought as well as almost no deformation of the basket was discovered. The sectret lay in the rock selection, the internal bracing of the basket, the lift frame and spreader frame and most essentially the hand placing of every stone to ensure that each one had 3 points of contact between them, providing a good cohesive bond in the stacked material. Pre-fabricated baskets were lifted into place by a Crane and locked together using lacing clips. For stability and safety the baskets were stacked no higher than 3 at on time. Once the pre-fab baskets were in place the task of infilling around the collums took place locking all the baskets together.

Late night nostalgia is about stuff we watched as kids that we werent really supposed to be watching, this episode is about the channel 4 late 90's show Vids.
Vids (also known as Vidz) was a late-night, humorous video review show hosted by peroxide blond Welshman Nigel Buckland and the tall, long haired, bearded Glasgow native, Stef Gardiner.
The show was produced by Ideal World Productions for Channel 4 in the UK, and aired as part of Channel 4's overnight programming schedule, 4 Later.
Series 1 & 2 was directed by Darren Bender.
Presenters Nige and Stef would review a selection of the week's new DVD and video releases in their own inimitable style from their mock-videostore located in Hamilton, near Glasgow. Various locations around the city of Glasgow were featured, as the presenters took to the streets and incorporated madcap storylines into the show, padding out the time between film reviews.
Over the course of the various series, Buckland, in addition to appearing as himself, assumed the roles of various other characters, most notably his moustached, cardigan-wearing half-brother Lingus.
At the end of series 2, the Vids videostore was blown up in a storyline, seemingly killing Stef and Nige. The duo would return in episode one of series 3, being resurrected and sent back to earth to continue their task of reviewing videos.

Darren Bender
Darren Bender became known in the UK TV industry for launching several long-running new film-maker's initiatives (Coming Up & The Other Side) at broadcaster Channel 4. As commissioning editor there, he encouraged over one hundred drama and documentary film makers to make films inexpensively and often experimentally for late night slots on Channel 4. After a spell as head of production at one of the regional branches of the UK Film Council, he set up Bigger Pictures, his independent television and film production company. His first feature film Exhibit A was released last year. He has a slate of low budget movies and continues to make a variety of television content including male-skewed programs for Channel Five.

Red Bull
Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in 1987. In terms of market share, Red Bull is the highest-selling energy drink in the world, with 5.387 billion cans sold in 2013.
Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy drink named Krating Daeng, which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in Chakkapong, Thailand. In Thai, daeng means red, and krating is the large bovine called "gaur". Red Bull is sold in a tall and slim blue-silver can, while Krating Daeng is in a gold shorter can. The two are different products, produced separately.

Red Bull Rampage
The Red Bull Rampage is an invite-only freeride mountain bike competition held near Zion National Park in Virgin, Utah, United States, just to the north of Gooseberry Mesa. Previously it was held off the Kolob Terrace Road, on the western boundary of Zion National Park.
History
The competition was held from 2001–2004 and then canceled due to the increasing risk competitors were taking. After a three-year hiatus, Rampage returned in 2008. For the 2008 event wooden features have been introduced to what has previously been a "Natural" only course.
The competition usually held in October. The event is similar to freestyle skiing and snowboarding, where competitors are judged on their choice of lines down the course, their technical ability and the complexity of tricks. Red Bull Rampage has become one of the biggest mountain biking events of the year.
At the first ever Rampage in 2001, the prize money for the event was $8,000. In 2015, the total prize fund is a $100,000.

Cyclonic weather resulted in this mountain side road section slipping away into the valley below. The road started out life as a logging track and as such was never really constructed properly. Poor soil compaction and low strength rock meant that while it performed for many years eventually the soil particles loose there cohesive strength. Like the straw that broke the camels back, the influx of storm water resulted in the particles separating and the roadway slipped down the slope. Soil nails and micro piles were used to intersect the slip circle and due to the presence of a solid foundation some 3.4 metres below the road a semi-solid structure was used to enable the road embankment and pavement to be reinstated. The retaining wall is made of No-fines mass concrete blocks, capped with a steel reinforced beam to which guardrail is attached. -

Sediment barrier fencing or water turbidity management for construction sites in or adjacent to waterways. Typically the performance of earthworks adjacent to or in waterways results in sediments dispersing into the water resulting in high turbidity levels. This increased level can seriously impacting upon aquatic flora and fauna. Over the years I have seen numerous methods employed to manage the situation, most of which are unsuccessful in containing the impact of the works upon the water quality surrounding the works zone. Frustrated by poor results and looking for a low cost solution, my team and I embarked on a journey of discovery. We looked at existing products, reviewed scientific studies into the behaviour of sediments in water, experimented with various materials to make the barrier out of and then ultimately produced a prototype for testing in the field. The video you are about to watch is of this prototype being tested and as you will see it worked extremely well. of course out of the trial we learned where weaknesses existed in the design and have come up with improvements for the next version. The structure is manufactured from common materials that are readily available and is quick and simple to construct and install. Floats are polystyrene material encased in a waterproof fabric. The curtain is A34 Geo-fabric cloth. The bottom of the curtain is weighted down with 5/8 galvanised chain. A 12mm diameter rope is attached along the length of the curtain at the top for securing the structure into place. The rope and chain are attached to the Geo-fabric by Stanley lacing clips. The floats are attached to the top of the curtain by Zip ties to the rope. Once the floats are secured, the geo-fabric is then rolled over to wrap around the float and then this is secured into place again using zip ties. Once completed the sediment barrier is moved into position. In this instance the ends of the curtain are attached to the embankment, firstly by pulling on the rope to get it into position and then securing the rope to an anchor point. The fabric is attached to the embankment using short star pickets with a flat steel plate welded onto the end to prevent the fabric from being able to pull away. In the locations where the sediment barrier is required to stay a distance away from the works, boat anchors are secured on the waterway bed and then a length of rope is connected from the anchor to the rope located at the top of the barrier curtain. The most important element to ensure it all works as required is get a good contact with the bottom of the curtain to the waterway bed, sediments must not be able to get past this point of contact. -

Approached to build a vertical 6 metre high architectural gabion wall to form the back drop for an outdoor entertainment area, and then told that the inset build had to take no more than 8 weeks and must occur in conjunction with all other aspects of the stage construction at the same time. Hmmmmm, this required some lateral thinking. It was concluded that the only way it could be done was to prefabricate as much of the wall as possible, prior to the stage construction commencing. This meant that Gabion baskets between the collums had to be prebuilt leaving only the collum infills and archway to be built insitu. Approached to build a vertical 6 metre high architectural gabion wall to form the back drop for an outdoor entertainment area, and then told that the inset build had to take no more than 8 weeks and must occur in conjunction with all other aspects of the stage construction at the same time. Mountain side landslip reclaimation works performed using no-fines concrete mass blocks,
Cyclonic weather resulted in this mountain side road section slipping away into the valley below. The road started out life as a logging track and as such was never really constructed properly. Poor soil compaction and low strength rock meant that while it performed for many years eventually the soil particles loose there cohesive strength. Like the straw that broke the camels back, the influx of storm water resulted in the particles separating and the roadway slipped down the slope. Soil nails and micro piles were used to intersect the slip circle and due to the presence of a solid foundation some 3.4 metres below the road a semi-solid structure was used to enable the road embankment and pavement to be reinstated. Typically the performance of earthworks adjacent to or in waterways results in sediments dispersing into the water resulting in high turbidity levels. This increased level can seriously impacting upon aquatic flora and fauna. Months later and numerous trials under the bealt and a method of construction that produced the high asthetic standard being sought as well as almost no deformation of the basket was discovered. The sectret lay in the rock selection, the internal bracing of the basket, the lift frame and spreader frame and most essentially the hand placing of every stone to ensure that each one had 3 points of contact between them, providing a good cohesive bond in the stacked material. Pre-fabricated baskets were lifted into place by a Crane and locked together using lacing clips. For stability and safety the baskets were stacked no higher than 3 at on time. Once the pre-fab baskets were in place the task of infilling around the collums took place locking all the baskets together.

Approached to build a vertical 6 metre high architectural gabion wall to form the back drop for an outdoor entertainment area, and then told that the inset build had to take no more than 8 weeks and must occur in conjunction with all other aspects of the stage construction at the same time. Hmmmmm, this required some lateral thinking. It was concluded that the only way it could be done was to prefabricate as much of the wall as possible, prior to the stage construction commencing. This meant that Gabion baskets between the collums had to be prebuilt leaving only the collum infills and archway to be built insitu. The difficulty was that while pre-built had been done before, the finish required had to be maintained to a high standard. Months later and numerous trials under the bealt and a method of construction that produced the high asthetic standard being sought as well as almost no deformation of the basket was discovered. The sectret lay in the rock selection, the internal bracing of the basket, the lift frame and spreader frame and most essentially the hand placing of every stone to ensure that each one had 3 points of contact between them, providing a good cohesive bond in the stacked material. Pre-fabricated baskets were lifted into place by a Crane and locked together using lacing clips. For stability and safety the baskets were stacked no higher than 3 at on time. Once the pre-fab baskets were in place the task of infilling around the collums took place locking all the baskets together.

Cyclonic weather resulted in this mountain side road section slipping away into the valley below. The road started out life as a logging track and as such was never really constructed properly. Poor soil compaction and low strength rock meant that while it performed for many years eventually the soil particles loose there cohesive strength. Like the straw that broke the camels back, the influx of storm water resulted in the particles separating and the roadway slipped down the slope. Soil nails and micro piles were used to intersect the slip circle and due to the presence of a solid foundation some 3.4 metres below the road a semi-solid structure was used to enable the road embankment and pavement to be reinstated. The retaining wall is made of No-fines mass concrete blocks, capped with a steel reinforced beam to which guardrail is attached.

Sediment barrier fencing or water turbidity management for construction sites in or adjacent to waterways. Typically the performance of earthworks adjacent to or in waterways results in sediments dispersing into the water resulting in high turbidity levels. This increased level can seriously impacting upon aquatic flora and fauna. Over the years I have seen numerous methods employed to manage the situation, most of which are unsuccessful in containing the impact of the works upon the water quality surrounding the works zone. Frustrated by poor results and looking for a low cost solution, my team and I embarked on a journey of discovery. We looked at existing products, reviewed scientific studies into the behaviour of sediments in water, experimented with various materials to make the barrier out of and then ultimately produced a prototype for testing in the field. The video you are about to watch is of this prototype being tested and as you will see it worked extremely well. of course out of the trial we learned where weaknesses existed in the design and have come up with improvements for the next version. The structure is manufactured from common materials that are readily available and is quick and simple to construct and install. Floats are polystyrene material encased in a waterproof fabric. The curtain is A34 Geo-fabric cloth. The bottom of the curtain is weighted down with 5/8 galvanised chain. A 12mm diameter rope is attached along the length of the curtain at the top for securing the structure into place. The rope and chain are attached to the Geo-fabric by Stanley lacing clips. The floats are attached to the top of the curtain by Zip ties to the rope. Once the floats are secured, the geo-fabric is then rolled over to wrap around the float and then this is secured into place again using zip ties. Once completed the sediment barrier is moved into position. In this instance the ends of the curtain are attached to the embankment, firstly by pulling on the rope to get it into position and then securing the rope to an anchor point. The fabric is attached to the embankment using short star pickets with a flat steel plate welded onto the end to prevent the fabric from being able to pull away. In the locations where the sediment barrier is required to stay a distance away from the works, boat anchors are secured on the waterway bed and then a length of rope is connected from the anchor to the rope located at the top of the barrier curtain. The most important element to ensure it all works as required is get a good contact with the bottom of the curtain to the waterway bed, sediments must not be able to get past this point of contact.
