Romania (i/roʊˈmeɪniə/ roh-MAY-nee-ə; Romanian: România [romɨˈni.a]) is a unitary semi-presidential republic located in Southeastern Europe, bordering the Black Sea, between Bulgaria and Ukraine. It also borders Hungary, Serbia, and Moldova. It covers 238,391 square kilometres (92,043 sq mi) and has a temperate-continental climate. With its 19.94 million inhabitants, it is the seventh most populous member state of the European Union. Its capital and largest city, Bucharest, is the sixth largest city in the EU.
The River Danube, which is Europe's second longest river after the Volga, rises in Germany and flows southeastwards for a distance of 2,857Â km, coursing through ten countries before emptying in Romania's Danube Delta. Some of its 1,075Â km length bordering the country drains the whole of it. The Carpathian Mountains, with their tallest peak Moldoveanu at 2,544Â m (8,346Â ft), cross Romania from the north to the southwest.
Modern Romania emerged within the territories of the ancient Roman province of Dacia, and was formed in 1859 through a personal union of the Danubian Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. The new state, officially named Romania since 1866, gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877. At the end of World War I, Transylvania, Bukovina and Bessarabia united with the sovereign Kingdom of Romania. During World War II, Romania was an ally of Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union, fighting side by side with the Wehrmacht until 1944, then it joined the Allied powers after being occupied by the Red Army forces. During the war, Romania lost several territories, of which Northern Transylvania was regained after the war. Following the war, Romania became a socialist republic and member of the Warsaw Pact. After the 1989 Revolution, Romania began a transition back towards democracy and a capitalist market economy.
Bran Castle (Romanian: Castelul Bran; German: Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvár), situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as "Dracula's Castle" (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula. As discovered by the Dutch author Hans Corneel de Roos, the location Bram Stoker actually had in mind for Castle Dracula while writing his novel was an empty mountain top, Mount Izvorul Călimanului, 2,033 metres (6,670 ft) high, located in the Transylvanian Călimani Alps near the former border with Moldavia.
Transylvania (Romanian: Transilvania or Ardeal, Hungarian: Erdély, German: Siebenbürgen or Transsilvanien, Polish: Siedmiogród, Latin: Transsilvania, Turkish: Erdel) is a historical region in the central part of Romania. Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended eastward to the Apuseni Mountains. The term sometimes encompasses not only Transylvania proper, but also the historical regions of Crișana, Maramureș and Romanian part of Banat. The region of Transylvania is known for the scenic beauty of its Carpathian landscape and its rich history. It also contains major Romanian cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Brașov and Sibiu. In the English-speaking world it has been commonly associated with vampires, chiefly due to the influence of Bram Stoker's famous novel Dracula as well as the many later film adaptations.
In Romanian, the region is known as Ardeal (pronounced [arˈde̯al]) or Transilvania (pronounced [transilˈvani.a]); in Hungarian as Erdély (pronounced [É›rdeË?j]); in German as Siebenbürgen (pronounced [ˈziË?bnÌ©ËŒbÊ?Ê?É¡nÌ©]); and in Turkish as Transilvanya (pronounced [tɾansilˈvanja]) but historically as Erdel or Erdehstan; see also other denominations.

With howling winds we ascended the many steps leading up to the infamous Bran Castle. The castle associated with Bram Stoker's Dracula Castle is a national landmark and monument in Transylvania, Romania (Romanian: Castelul Bran; Hungarian: Törcsvár; German: Törzburg). We found the experience fascinating as most areas of the castle were open for tourists to explore including some dimly lit staircases. After checking out the castle we headed back down to briefly check out a market selling all kinds of trinkets and restaurant featuring hearty Romanian cuisine. I went to Romania in April 2013. I visited Cluj-Napoca, Sighișoara, Salina Turda and Biertan (Transylvania). Romania is a beautiful country with good food and great people. I hope you'll like the video and you'll plan a tip there! ...

If you dare to walk through the mountains here, you may come across, these strange cave complexes. What’s strange about this place, is that the caves contain a mysterious language encarved on the walls that no one is quite able to decipher. The walls contain several messages that many people are dying to know what they mean! There’s also depictions of mysterious beings. Some believe these carvings come from the Luana Kingdom which little is known about. Tales of people wh...
Transylvania is a historical region in the central part of Romania. Bounded on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range. This footage was shot over a week in July whilst travelling around the region with friends. In the English-speaking world Transylvania has been commonly associated with vampires, however, the landscape is full of exquisite beauty and during summer is lush and green. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. A big thank you to our very kind friends Traian and Adrianna who showed us their wonderful country. Bram Stoker's gothic novel Dracula begins with solicitor Jonathan Harker travelling through Europe to visit a mysterious count at his castle in Transylvania to discuss his purchase of a series of properties in and around London. Harker's travels in Transylvania starts at the Golden Crown Hotel in Bistritz from where he travels through the Carpathian mountains, up the Borgo Pass to arrive at Castle Dracula in the dead of night. Surprisingly, these locations actually exist. Transylvania is a very real place; a province within the modern country of Romania. This short film visits Bistritz (Bistrita) and faithfully re-traces Harker's journey up the Borgo Pass to the castle. Travel video about destination Bucuresti in Romania. The capital of Romania, Bucharest, the Paris of the East. Founded by Prince Dracula and transformed from a dictatorship into a fine metropolis. In between embellished Classical and Baroque facades, as well as playful Art Nouveau, are many splendid historic buildings. In Bucharest’s Old Town are the ruins of the Old Royal Court in which Vlad Tepes resided. In 1456, Vlad The Impaler, also known as Dracula, came to power as Prince Of The Walachei. On the other side of the Dâmboviţa River is Romania’s last dictator’s impressive and once-fearsome building, the Palace Of Parliament. Close by is the National Opera House which was founded in 1998 and created as a multi-functional complex. The Templul Coral is the largest and most beautiful s...
