Norway is a country located in Northern Europe on the western and northern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, bordering the North Sea in southwest and the Skagerrak inlet to the south, the North Atlantic Ocean (Norwegian Sea) in the west and the Barents Sea to the northeast. Norway has a long land border with Sweden to the east, a shorter one with Finland in the northeast and a still shorter border with Russia in the far northeast.
Norway has a very elongated shape, one of the longest and most rugged coastlines in the world, and some 50,000 islands off the extremely indented coastline. The mainland covers 13° latitude, from 58°N to more than 71°N, (Svalbard north to 81°N), and covers the longitude from 5°E in Solund to 31°E in Vardø (Jan Mayen to 9°W, Kvitøya to 33°E).
Norway is one of the world's most northerly countries, and one of Europe's most mountainous countries with large areas dominated by the Scandinavian Mountains; average elevation is 460 m and 32% of the mainland is located above the tree line.
Norway (i/ˈnɔːrweɪ/ NAWR-way; Norwegian: Norge (Bokmål) or Noreg (Nynorsk)), officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a sovereign and unitary monarchy whose territory comprises the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula plus the island Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard. The Antarctic Peter I Island and the sub-Antarctic Bouvet Island are dependent territories and thus not considered part of the Kingdom. Norway also lays claim to a section of Antarctica known as Queen Maud Land. Until 1814, the Kingdom included the Faroe Islands (since 1035), Greenland (1261), and Iceland (1262). It also included Shetland and Orkney until 1468.
Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of 5,109,059 people (2014). The country shares a long eastern border with Sweden (1,619 km or 1,006 mi long). Norway is bordered by Finland and Russia to the north-east, and the Skagerrak Strait to the south, with Denmark on the other side. Norway has an extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea.

Download a free worksheet to go with this lesson here: http://thehevproject.blogspot.com/p/free-worksheets.html *p.s. These worksheets have yummy recipes to go along with each country! My father was a traveler and spoke 7 languages fluently. I remember being fascinated by the maps, pictures, and relics he brought home with him. When I was a boy he and I traveled by bus from one end of Mexico to the other staying in the homes of random people and taking in all of what Mexico had to offer (large cockroaches, hot food and all!) . I guess some of that rubbed off on me. I speak Spanish and English fluently, and can get by in German, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. Today, when I visit another country my favorite place to be is in someone’s house taking in the feeling of their lives and...

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg of Norway addressed the topic "Avoiding the Oil Curse: The Case of Norway" at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at the Harvard Kennedy School. Stoltenberg discussed how the "Oil Curse" occurs in countries with natural resources, noting the negative relationship between countries with a large amount of natural resources and real GDP per capita. Stoltenberg focused on the Norwegian experience and how although oil and gas has a large impact on the economy it is balanced in a way to combat the common "curse." Stoltenberg highlighted other elements of the Norwegian economy that make the country exemplary in social equality including high employment and the dual maternity, paternity leave granted to citizens.
