Oba Of Benin Is Alive
The Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, has dismissed the rumour that he had passed on.
The speculation on the monarch’s demise had gone viral on the Internet on Friday morning.
The rumour also intensified with the claim that the Oba did not personally receive President Goodluck Jonathan, during his February 4 presidential rally in Benin, the Edo State capital.
But the Benin Traditional Council, told our correspondent on Friday evening that it was a mere speculation, which had been on for over six months and lacked truth.
The Secretary to the council, Mr. Frank Irabor, explained that it was the responsibility of the council to issue a formal statement, if such a development did occur.
He said, “They have been peddling that rumour for more than a year now, because the Oba has not been coming out.
“If there is anything like that, there is usually a statement from the palace or from the Benin Traditional Council.”
Although the spokesperson did not specify whether or not the Oba was hale and hearty, he said that inability of the President Jonathan to see the monarch, when he visited the palace, did not give credence to his rumoured death.
“The fact that he has not been coming out, even when the President came last week, does not mean that there is anything like that.”
“I don’t bother about rumours. I believe in getting information from the authentic source. For more than six months, they have been carrying the rumour,” he added.oba of benin is dead

Overami or Ovonramwen was the last Oba or King of the African Kingdom of Benin, also sometimes referred to as the Benin Empire (not be confused with the modern country of Benin) which occupied an area mostly within what is now Nigeria. For many years prior to Ovonramwen coming to the throne British influence in the area had been expanding and strengthening but Benin remained independent but that independence, particularly the trade monopoly the Oba held in the region, aroused the jealousy of elite colonial investors and businessmen. They were determined to bring Benin with its palm-oil, rubber and ivory wealth under British control. Ovonramwen came to the throne in 1888 as the 35th Oba of Benin and in 1892 signed a treaty with the British to abolish the slave trade in the region and making the Kingdom of Benin an autonomous protectorate of Great Britain.

Lack of this essential vehicle of unity and identity did not only destabilize and destroy the socio-political and industrial strategies of the West African countries; it raised data or questions which borders on the basis for cohesion, comprehension, industrial and technological revolution and the unity in such diversity because language plays a unifying role in the beginning, development, beliefs, and customs of any group of people.
Experts have pointed out that most people think and act better in the language of their motherlands and identifiable language to their roots; and that when they speak other languages of no identical connection to their cultures they engaged in transliteration and endless hurdles before the main issues to be discusses.
Language is a means by which words or expressions find meaning and is put into use. Basically, it is used as a means of giving out information, thoughts, skills, ideas, reasoning and ensures receipt of it from varied sources. Above all, language is knowledge, and knowledge is POWER for the people, from the people and by the people.
The Guosa Language:
There are about 400 different ethnic languages, dialects and fractional tongues in Nigeria and about twice this number in other West African countries. As of now, the Guosa Language consists of at least 120 of these diverse tongues and it all began with only two languages in its evolutionary conception and birth. The language is made up of carefully detailed units of the different ethnic languages and cultures, so that in the future years, the West African Regional Countries should be able to take their positive stand in the communities of lingua franca nations of the world, such as the East Africa, the North Africa, Europe, America, Asia and so on.

Omo n'Oba n'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Akenzua II (1899-1978) was the Oba of Benin (traditional leader of the Edo people, in Nigeria) from 1933 until his death, in 1978.
Akenzua II ascended to the position upon the death of his father, Oba Eweka II, who reigned from 1914 and died in 1933.
In 1936, Oba Akenzua II began the movement to return to Nigeria the Benin Bronzes stolen in the punitive Benin Expedition of 1897. During his reign, only two of the 3,000 royal court bronzes were returned.
Oba Akenzua II died in 1978, when he was succeeded by his son, then Prince Solomon, who took on the title of Oba Erediauwa[1] and carries on to this day his father's crown and duties as the traditional leader of the Edo people in Benin City, Nigeria.

The Oba of Benin, or Omo N'Oba, is the Oba of the Edo people and the Supreme Ruler Of The Benin Kingdom. The Benin homeland (not to be confused with the modern day country of the Republic of Benin, which was formerly known as Dahomey) has and continues to be most significantly populated by the Edo (also known as the Bini or Benin ethnic group).
The title of 'Oba' was created by Oba Eweka I, the kingdom's first 'Oba'. The current capital is Benin City, which is in modern day Nigeria.
In 1897, the British launched a Punitive Expedition, sacked Benin city and exiled Oba Ovonramwen, taking control of the area in order to establish the British colony of Nigeria. The expedition was mounted to avenge the killing by the Binis of an official British delegation that had violated their customs earlier in 1896. It consisted of both indigenous soldiers and British officers, and is still remembered by the Edos with horror today. To cover the cost of the expedition, the Benin royal art was auctioned off by the British. Ovonramwen died in 1914, his throne never having been restored to him.

Benin 
i/bɨˈniːn/ (formerly, Dahomey), officially the Republic of Benin, is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Togo to the west, by Nigeria to the east and by Burkina Faso and Niger to the north. A majority of the population live on its small southern coastline on the Bight of Benin. The capital of Benin is Porto-Novo, but the seat of government is in Cotonou, the country's largest city. Benin covers an area of approximately 110,000 square kilometers (42,000 sq mi), with a population of approximately 9.05 million. Benin is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation, highly dependent on agriculture, with substantial employment and income arising from subsistence farming.
The official language of Benin is French, however, indigenous languages such as Fon and Yoruba are commonly spoken. The largest religious group in Benin is Roman Catholicism, followed closely by Islam, Vodun and Protestantism. Benin is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone, La Francophonie, the Community of Sahel-Saharan States, the African Petroleum Producers Association and the Niger Basin Authority.

The Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa, has dismissed the rumour that he had passed on.
The speculation on the monarch’s demise had gone viral on the Internet on Friday morning.
The rumour also intensified with the claim that the Oba did not personally receive President Goodluck Jonathan, during his February 4 presidential rally in Benin, the Edo State capital.
But the Benin Traditional Council, told our correspondent on Friday evening that it was a mere speculation, which had been on for over six months and lacked truth.
The Secretary to the council, Mr. Frank Irabor, explained that it was the responsibility of the council to issue a formal statement, if such a development did occur.
He said, “They have been peddling that rumour for more than a year now, because the Oba has not been coming out.
“If there is anything like that, there is usually a statement from the palace or from the Benin Traditional Council.”
Although the spokesperson did not specify whether or not the Oba was hale and hearty, he said that inability of the President Jonathan to see the monarch, when he visited the palace, did not give credence to his rumoured death.
“The fact that he has not been coming out, even when the President came last week, does not mean that there is anything like that.”

The need for of a common indigenous lingua franca in the West African Regional Countries or the ECOWAS is well over due. Lack of this essential vehicle of unity and identity did not only destabilize and destroy the socio-political and industrial strategies of the West African countries; it raised data or questions which borders on the basis for cohesion, comprehension, industrial and technological revolution and the unity in such diversity because language plays a unifying role in the beginning, development, beliefs, and customs of any group of people.
Experts have pointed out that most people think and act better in the language of their motherlands and identifiable language to their roots; and that when they speak other languages of no identical connection to their cultures they engaged in transliteration and endless hurdles before the main issues to be discusses.
Language is a means by which words or expressions find meaning and is put into use. Basically, it is used as a means of giving out information, thoughts, skills, ideas, reasoning and ensures receipt of it from varied sources. Above all, language is knowledge, and knowledge is POWER for the people, from the people and by the people.
The Guosa Language:
There are about 400 different ethnic languages, dialects and fractional tongues in Nigeria and about twice this number in other West African countries. As of now, the Guosa Language consists of at least 120 of these diverse tongues and it all began with only two languages in its evolutionary conception and birth. The language is made up of carefully detailed units of the different ethnic languages and cultures, so that in the future years, the West African Regional Countries should be able to take their positive stand in the communities of lingua franca nations of the world, such as the East Africa, the North Africa, Europe, America, Asia and so on.
