Archduke

Archduke (feminine: Archduchess) (German: Erzherzog, feminine form: Erzherzogin) was the title borne from 1358 by the Habsburg rulers of the Archduchy of Austria and later, by all senior members of that dynasty. It denotes a rank within the former Holy Roman Empire (962–1806), which was below that of Emperor and King and above that of Duke and Prince.

The territory ruled by an Archduke or Archduchess was called an Archduchy. All remaining Archduchies ceased to exist in 1918.

Terminology

The English word is first recorded in 1530, derived from Middle, via Old, French archeduc, from Merovingian Latin archidux, from Greek arch(i)-, ἀρχι- meaning "authority" or "primary" (see arch-) and dux "duke" (literally "leader")

"Archduke" (German: Erzherzog; Dutch: Aartshertog) is a title distinct from "Grand Duke" (French: Grand-Duc; Luxembourgish: Groussherzog; German: Großherzog), a later monarchic title borne by the rulers of other European countries (for instance, Luxembourg).

History

The first known claim to the title of Archduke was by the rulers of Austrasia (c. 750), one of the Merovingian (Frankish) realms resulting from the complex successions in the house of Clovis, roughly comprising Germany, Switzerland and the Low Countries.

White Knight Chronicles II

White Knight Chronicles II (白騎士物語 -光と闇の覚醒-, Shirokishi Monogatari: Hikari to Yami no Kakusei, lit. White Knight Story: Light and Darkness' Awakening) is a video game developed by Level-5 and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan and Europe as well as D3 Publisher (a subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings) in North America exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The game is a direct sequel to the 2008 title White Knight Chronicles and was announced at TGS 2009. The game was released in Japan on July 8, 2010, in Australia on June 9, 2011, in Europe on June 10, 2011 and in North America on September 13, 2011. On June 18, 2013, the server for the game was shut down by D3Publisher and Sony Computer Entertainment America.

The game allows the player to transfer their character from White Knight Chronicles along with money, equipment and guild ranks. The game also contains a remastered version of the original White Knight Chronicles.D3 Publisher confirmed to the U.S PlayStation blog that players would receive additional content that's exclusive to the U.S. This content ranged from a fully localized version of the Japanese game and many others.

White Knight Chronicles

White Knight Chronicles (白騎士物語 -古の鼓動-, Shirokishi Monogatari: Inishie no Kodō, lit. "White Knight Story: Ancient Heartbeat") is a fantasy role-playing video game developed by Level-5 and SCE Japan Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. It is Level-5's first project for the system. As of August 8, 2009 it has sold 350,000 copies in Japan. A sequel titled White Knight Chronicles II was released in Japan in 2010. A related game for the PlayStation Portable, titled White Knight Chronicles: Origins was released in Japan, Europe and, Australia in 2011.

On June 18, 2013, the Geonet server was shut down by Sony Computer Entertainment America in North America and Europe .

Gameplay

White Knight Chronicles is a role-playing video game presented in a third-person perspective. The player can freely choose which character to control. Like in most other RPGs the characters gain experience points and level up, becoming stronger over the course of the game. Level-5 conceived White Knight Chronicles to have 100 hours of gameplay, a length Akihiro Hino considers to be a full length RPG, going against the pressure to make White Knight Chronicles a launch title and cutting the story short.

Chronicles II (Eloy album)

Chronicles II is the second of a two parts re-recorded hits compilation by German progressive rock band Eloy. The album has been released in 1994 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the band. The first part Chronicles I has been released the preceding year.

Chronicles II contains songs from the years 1984-1992 and from the albums Metromania (1984), Ra (1988) and Destination (1992).

Tracks from Metromania have been re-recorded with former members of the band to match modern sound quality. All tracks have been digitally remastered.
