A governor (from French gouverneur) is a governing official, usually the executive (at least nominally, to different degrees also politically and administratively) of a non-sovereign level of government, ranking under the head of state. In federations, a governor may be the title of each appointed or elected politician who governs a constituent state.

Rachel Anne Maddow (pronounced /ˈmædoʊ/; born April 1, 1973) is an American television host, political commentator, and author. Maddow hosts a nightly television show, The Rachel Maddow Show, on MSNBC. Her syndicated talk radio program of the same name aired on Air America Radio. Maddow is the first openly gay anchor of a prime-time news program in the United States.
Asked about her political views by the Valley Advocate, Maddow replied, "I'm undoubtedly a liberal, which means that I'm in almost total agreement with the Eisenhower-era Republican party platform."
Maddow was born in Castro Valley, California. Her father, Robert B. "Bob" Maddow, is a former United States Air Force captain who resigned his commission the year before her birth and found civilian work as a lawyer for the East Bay Municipal Utility District. Her mother, Elaine Maddow (née Gosse), is a school program administrator from Newfoundland, Canada. She has one older brother, David. Her father is of Russian and Dutch descent and her mother is of English and Irish ancestry. Maddow's mother was raised a strict Roman Catholic, and Maddow herself grew up in a community that her mother has described as "very conservative." Maddow was a competitive athlete and played three sports in high school. Referencing John Hughes films, she describes herself in high school as "a cross between the jock and the antisocial girl."

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) blamed liberals over the weekend for a state law that strips bathroom rights from transgender people. On Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd asked the governor if he regretted signing HB2 after 160 companies called for it to be repealed, and dozens threatened to boycott the state. McCrory argued that his job as governor was to stop “government overreach” by cities like Charlotte, which had passed an ordinance allowing transgender people to use the restroom of their choice. “It was the left that brought about the bathroom bill, not the right,” he insisted. “The city of Charlotte passed a mandate on every private sector employer in North Carolina, one of the largest cities in the United States of America. And I think that’s government overreach.” “You talk about overreach,” Todd interrupted. “You say Charlotte overreached. How did the state of North Carolina, the state government not overreach in just the same way?” “This has been a long debate in the city of Charlotte, this is where they came down,” the Meet the Press host pointed out. “You guys debated for like 10 seconds.” “We’ve got to have more dialog and not threats,” McCory said, adding that there was a “disconnect” between “corporate suites and main street.” “That’s a very thoughtful thing for you to say about dialog,” Todd shot back. “Where was the dialog?” According to McCrory, the legislature felt that it needed to act fast to stymie Charlotte’s ordinance because “once it came into effect, it would be harder to overturn.” The governor admitted that he did not meet with transgender people before signing the law, but complained that the Human Rights Council was “more powerful than the NRA.” “Which makes me want to overturn [Citizens United] because I don’t know who their donors are,” he quipped. “They are putting on a lot of pressure instead of having good dialog.” Watch the video below from NBC. On Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd asked the governor if he regretted signing HB2 after 160 companies called for it to be repealed, and dozens threatened to boycott the state. McCrory argued that his job as governor was to stop “government overreach” by cities like Charlotte, which had passed an ordinance allowing transgender people to use the restroom of their choice. “It was the left that brought about the bathroom bill, not the right,” he insisted. “The city of Charlotte passed a mandate on every private sector employer in North Carolina, one of the largest cities in the United States of America. And I think that’s government overreach.” “You talk about overreach,” Todd interrupted. “You say Charlotte overreached. “In response to the recent backlash over a North Carolina bill regarded as one of the most anti-LGBT forms of legislation in the country, Governor Pat McCrory has signed an executive order meant to “clarify” the finer points of the law.
Known as HB2, the bill received a torrent of criticism when it was signed into law late last March, specifically over an ordinance which bars transgender people from using bathrooms that are correlative to the gender with which they identify.
Since then, a number of widely-reported censures against the bill have followed, including public denouncements from celebrities like Bruce Springsteen and Joel McHale, as well as companies like PayPal, who halted the development of 400 jobs previously planned for the state.”

"Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage told a town hall audience on Wednesday that heroin use is resulting in white women being impregnated by out-of-state drug dealers with names like "D-Money."
LePage was asked by an attendee to explain what he was doing to curb the heroin epidemic in his state. "The traffickers—these aren't people that take drugs," he explained. (You can watch the exchange beginning at the 1:55:00 mark.) "These are guys with the names D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty—these types of guys—that come from Connecticut and New York; they come up here, they sell their heroin, then they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue that we've got to deal with down the road.””*

However, some requirements may no longer be necessary and these burdens can reduce employment in those fields, lead to higher prices for professional services, and limit opportunities for Delaware workers. A few years ago we identified ways to expand access to the barber and cosmetology fields, recognizing that certification options either took too long or were too expensive for some people. I support a proposal to remove long waiting periods for ex-offenders seeking professional licenses. And this past week I signed an executive order to bring together my cabinet, legislators, community advocates and members of regulated professions to review existing licensing regulations, look at best practices from other states, and recommend ways to eliminate unnecessary barriers to entry. A thoughtful and collaborative approach to licensing reform will ensure professional regulations are instruments of opportunity, rather than arbitrary and expensive barriers to the job market. And that will keep Delaware moving forward.

WASHINGTON — Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia will use his executive power on Friday to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 convicted felons, circumventing his Republican-run legislature. The action will overturn a Civil War-era provision in the state’s Constitution aimed, he said, at disenfranchising African-Americans.
The sweeping order, in a swing state that could play a role in deciding the November presidential election, will enable all felons who have served their prison time and finished parole to register to vote. Most are African-Americans, a core constituency of Democrats, Mr. McAuliffe’s political party.
“There’s no question that we’ve had a horrible history in voting rights as relates to African-Americans — we should remedy it,” Mr. McAuliffe said Thursday, previewing the announcement he will make on the steps of Virginia’s Capitol, just yards from where President Abraham Lincoln once addressed freed slaves. “We should do it as soon as we possibly can.”
The action, which Mr. McAuliffe said was justified under an expansive legal interpretation of his executive clemency authority, goes far beyond what other governors have done, experts say, and will almost certainly provoke a backlash from Virginia Republicans, who have resisted measures to expand felons’ voting rights. It has been planned in secrecy, and comes amid an intensifying national debate over race, mass incarceration and the criminal justice system.
There is no way to know how many of the newly eligible voters in Virginia will register, but Mr. McAuliffe said he would encourage all to do so. “My message is going to be that I have now done my part,” he said.
Only two states — Maine and Vermont — have no voting restrictions on felons. Of the remaining 48, 12 states disenfranchise felons after they have completed probation or parole, said Marc Mauer, executive director of the Sentencing Project, a Washington policy organization that advocates restoring felons’ voting rights.
Virginia is one of four states — the others are Kentucky, Florida and Iowa — that impose the harshest restrictions. The Sentencing Project says one in five African-Americans in Virginia is disenfranchised.
