Synopsis
The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrives in Israel from Egypt for a cultural event, only to find there is no delegation to meet them, nor any arrangements for them to get to their destination of Petah Tiqva. They find their own ride butarrive instead at the remote town of Beit Hatikva. Stuck there until the next morning's bus, the band gets help from the worldly Dina, who offers to put them up for the night. As the band settles in as best it can, each of the members attempts to get along with the natives in his own way. What follows is a special night of quiet happenings and confessions as the band makes its own impact on the town and the town on them.

This audience-pleasing sensation of Cannes' Un Certain Regard and winner of eight Israeli Oscars follows the comic plight of the Alexandrian Police Orchestra. These eight slightly bewildered Egyptian officers, after getting lost at the airport, arrive in a remote, slightly empty Israeli village, their powder-blue uniforms standing out against the desert landscape. Fortunately, they connect with Dina, a ballsy, sexy café owner (Ronit Elkabetz, three-time winner of the Israeli Oscar), who helps them find lodging for the night. In the very first images of his first theatrical film, writer-director Elan Kolirin displays a mastery of low-key deadpan visual humor in the manner of Tati and Jarmusch. By the movie's second half, however, he pushes boundaries as several of the characters unexpectedly confront what one refers to as "tons of loneliness." With its precise portions of tact, irony and sweetness, Director Eran Kolirin's film gives 'humanist cinema' a good name, and offers yet another example of the resurgence of Israel's vibrant, provocative and increasingly varied film culture.

Once, not long ago, a small Egyptian Police band arrived in Israel. They came to play at an initiation ceremony but, due to bureaucracy, bad luck, or for whatever reason, they were left stranded at the airport.
They tried to manage on their own, only to find themselves in a desolate, almost forgotten, small Israeli town, somewhere in the heart of the desert. A lost band in a lost town. Not many people remember this. It wasn't that important.
The movie was selected to be Israel's Official Submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the 80th Annual Academy Awards (2008), but it was disqualified by AMPAS because more than 50% of film's dialogue was found to be in English, as opposed to Arabic and Hebrew.
The Movie Won 13 International Awards.

Eilon
Eilon (Hebrew: אֵילוֹן) is a kibbutz in northern Israel. Located a mile south of Lebanese border and six miles east of the Mediterranean coast, the kibbutz sits on a ridge between two streams, Nahal Betzet and Nahal Kziv and falls under the jurisdiction of Mateh Asher Regional Council. In 2012 it had a population of around 943.
Etymology
The name Eilon is derived from Elah (terebinth ) and Allon (oak), two tree species abundant in this heavily forested area of northern Israel, though specifically referred to the "remnants of ancient trees in the vicinity." The Polish-Jewish immigrants cleared the forest and planted orchards to feed a small population on a rocky hillside.
History
Kibbutz Eilon, situated a short distance from the Lebanese border, was established in 1938 on 400 dunams of land in Khirbet Samak purchased by the Jewish National Fund. It was settled that year by a group of Polish immigrants and Palestinian Jews. The inhabitants found themselves under constant fire in the wake of the 1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine. Eilon was one of the early tower and stockade settlements. In 1947, the kibbutz had a population of 350, successfully reclaiming rocky land that had been designated by the British Mandatory government as uncultivable. The kibbutz was initially affiliated with Hashomer Hatzair. Calm was achieved after the Galilee was cleared of Lebanese troops and Kaukji's bands in November 1948. When the israelis from the liberated town of Tarshisha appeared coming up the path the inhabitants defending the kibbutz could hardly believe their good fortune.

Eran Kolirin
Eran Kolirin (Hebrew: ערן קולירין) is an Israeli screenwriter and film director.
His directorial debut, The Band's Visit (2007), was a critical success, winning eight Awards of the Israeli Film Academy and prizes at several international film festivals. Kolirin himself won the Israeli Film Academy's awards for best director and best screenplay.
His second film, The Exchange, was in competition at the 68th Venice International Film Festival in September 2011.

A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Ronit Elkabetz
Ronit Elkabetz (Hebrew: רונית אלקבץ, Arabic: رونيت القبص) born 27 November 1964) is an Israeli actress and filmmaker. She works in both Israeli and French cinema. She has won three Ophir Awards and has received a total of seven nominations.
Biography
Elkabetz was born in Beersheba in 1964 to a religious Moroccan Jewish family originally from Essaouira. She grew up in Kiryat Yam. Her mother was a hairdresser and her father was a postal employee. Her mother spoke French and Arabic, but her father insisted on speaking only Hebrew. Elkabetz was the oldest of four children, with three younger siblings who were all brothers. Her younger brother Shlomi, became a director whom she worked with on their trilogy on the life of Viviane Amsalem.
She never studied acting and started her career as a model. She divides her time between her homes in Paris and Tel Aviv. She married architect Avner Yasharon on 25 June 2010.
In 2015 she was selected to be the President of the Jury for the International Critics' Week section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Sasson Gabai
Sasson Gabai (Hebrew: ששון גבאי Arabic: ساسون جاباي; born 24 November 1947) is an Israeli actor. Winner of an Ophir Award,Asia Pacific Screen Award (nominated),European Film Awards and Jerusalem Film Festival in 2007 as Best Actor in a highly acclaimed Israeli film "The Band's Visit".
Biography
Gabai was born in Baghdad in 1947 to an Iraqi Jewish family. During his childhood he immigrated together with his family to Israel. After serving his mandatory military service in the Israeli Defense Forces he studied theater and psychology at the Tel Aviv University. After graduating he began playing in the Khan Theater in Michael Alfreds group. Afterwards he played in several stage productions at the Hacameri Theater, the Be'er Sheva Theater and the Beit Lessin Theater, in which he currently is one of the permanent staff. Among the many plays he participated in were "Servant of Two Masters", "Catch 22", "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?", and "Rain Man". Gabai also played in the 1989 children's musical "Peter Pan" as Captain Hook.

The Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrives in Israel from Egypt for a cultural event, only to find there is no delegation to meet them, nor any arrangements for them to get to their destination of Petah Tiqva. Once, not long ago, a small Egyptian Police band arrived in Israel. They came to play at an initiation ceremony but, due to bureaucracy, bad luck, or for whatever reason, they were left stranded at the airport.
They tried to manage on their own, only to find themselves in a desolate, almost forgotten, small Israeli town, somewhere in the heart of the desert. A lost band in a lost town. Not many people remember this. It wasn't that important.
The movie was selected to be Israel's Official Submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the 80th Annual Academy Awards (2008), but it was disqualified by AMPAS because more than 50% of film's dialogue was found to be in English, as opposed to Arabic and Hebrew.
The Movie Won 13 International Awards.
Won Best Actor (Sasson Gabai),Best Actress (Ronit Elkabetz),Best Costumes (Doron Ashkenazi),Best Director (Eran Kolirin),Best Film,Best Music (Habib Shadah),Best Screenplay (Eran Kolirin) and Best Supporting Actor (Saleh Bakri) at Awards of the Israeli Film Academy 2007.

My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
