Night 2 of this three-nighter at Pasadena's Civic Auditorium went down well.
Morrissey was still in excellent spirits, the band was slightly better than on the night before, and the audience still incredibly receptive. Morrissey was actually very playful with his lyrics and often adlibbed funny comments between lines, although many were undecipherable to most of the audience. The singer might still have been unhappy about the sound because he was often seen pointing to his ear, presumably indicating to the soundman that he could not hear himself sing. One obvious change from the previous night was the increase in security. Because of this only one fan made it on stage, and this happened during the first encore. There was absolutely no changes made to the setlist.
"Hi,
Y'all!" Morrissey growled as he picked up his microphone. After set opener "Panic" he extended his greetings with "
Welcome to the seond bout!" In "The Youngest Was The Most Loved" he sang the slightly extended "We kept him from the world's glare thank God! he turned into a killer" and "there is no such thing in life as normal, believe me!" After the song he said something that sounded like "Is there (??) to be smelled!"
Morrissey was again very playful with his lyrics in "You Have Killed Me". On the previous leg of the tour he regularly changed the first line of that song to "
Pasolini is he
..." while pointing at the Pasolini backdrop. Now instead of that he sang "Pasadena is me, Accatone you will always be". Then on the next occurrence of that line he sang "
Tony Franciosa is me,
Diana Dors you will always be". He followed this with "I entered no one and nobody entered me". He also did a few more common live changes but instead of the usual "Piazza
Cavour what the hell's my life for", he sang "Piazza Cavour what the hell is my body for".
After "Disappointed" Morrissey announced "I know that you think that these are just merely songs (crowd disapproves) Oh you do, you really do, however they are, they're actually trophies... trophies.
Julia knows..." Then over the opening bars of "Ganglord" he repeated "
Trophies... trophies... trophies..." He followed the latter song with the comment "We're all very very sad to see the passing of
Tower Records (crowd boos) Oh we are! We're all really sad to see the passing of Tower Records (crowd boos) Is somebody not sad? (crowd: no!) Why? What ill did Tower Records ever do to you? You can't please everybody Julia... (then turning to someone shouting a reply)
What? What?" After "I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now" Morrissey said "So erm... very lovely, lovely!" then proceeded with the customary introduction of the band: "The folks on the hill, the folks who live on the hill... are:
Boz Boorer... (points to
Solomon) Boz Boorer... (points to
Matt) and Boz Boorer!... There's our new friend Solomon... who is the brother of Matt... dear old
Jesse Tobias... our new friend
Vincent... and my name is
Dryden Mitchell!"....
