Jammu /ˈdʒɑːmuː/ (Dogri: जम्मू, Urdu: جموں pronunciation (help·info), Punjabi: ਜੰਮੂ), also known informally as Duggardesh, is one of the three administrative divisions within Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost state in India. The region is not a state per se but a part of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. It consists of the districts of Doda, Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba, Kishtwar & Poonch. Most of the land is hilly or mountainous, including the Pir Panjal range which separates it from the Kashmir Valley and part of the Great Himalayas in the eastern districts of Doda and Kishtwar. The principal river is the Chenab.
Jammu city, officially called Jammu-Tawi, is the largest city in Jammu and the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu City is also known as "City of Temples" as it has many temples and shrines, with glittering shikhars soaring into the sky, which dot the city’s skyline, creating the ambiance of a holy and peaceful Hindu city.
Home to some of the most popular Hindu shrines, such as Vaishno Devi, Jammu is a pilgrimage tourism destination in India. The majority of Jammu's 5.9 million population practices Hinduism, while Islam and Sikhism enjoy a strong cultural heritage in the region. Due to relatively better infrastructure, Jammu has emerged as the main economic center of the state.
Antti Veikko Ilmari Siltavuori (October 29, 1926 – March 2012), better known as Jammu Siltavuori or Jammu-setä ("Uncle Jammu"), was a Finnish murderer and sexual offender.
Siltavuori was born in Joensuu, Finland.
He became well known in Finland, when he murdered two eight-year old girls, Päivi-Maria Hopiavuori and Tanja Johanna Pirinen in 1989. He burned the bodies shortly after. He had picked up both girls for a car ride from Myllypuro, a neighbourhood in Helsinki, on March 3, 1989. Prior to this, he had been convicted of raping a five-year-old girl, sexual harassment, and attempted murder. He was convicted to life imprisonment already in the 1950s or 1960s but he was later paroled. He had also built a self-made jail complete with cells, barred windows and small toilets in Paltamo, Kainuu, but there is no evidence that he built it for keeping the children hostage.
For the two murders in 1989, Siltavuori was sentenced to 15 years in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years, because a mental health examination legally found him to be partially insane. If that had not been the case, Siltavuori would have been again sentenced to life imprisonment.
