Jemeres Rojos (Khmers rouges en francés;, Khmer Krahom en camboyano) es el nombre con el que fue conocida la organización guerrillera camboyana que, tras la Guerra de Vietnam, la expulsión de los Estados Unidos y el derrocamiento del general Lon Nol (que regía una dictadura militar desde 1970), tomó el poder el 17 de abril de 1975 (la «Caída de Phnom Penh»), fundando la Kampuchea Democrática (KD), un sistema de gobierno de características totalitarias que, bajo la apariencia formal de una República Popular de inspiración maoísta, consolidó en la práctica un sistema de economía radicalmente agraria, bajo la consigna de la evacuación de las ciudades y destrucción de la civilización y cultura urbanas, consideradas burguesas, la reconstrucción social desde los orígenes de la civilización (Camboya Año Cero) y la recuperación de la cultura Jemer ancestral camboyana, bajo la dirección de Pol Pot (Saloth Sar), su principal líder, y el férreo control del ejército campesino sobre las población civil, sometida en buena parte a un régimen de trabajos forzados y a la aplicación de extensos métodos de detención, tortura y asesinato en masa y selectivo, bajo la consigna de la llamada búsqueda del enemigo interno.

Saloth Sar (19 May 1925 – 15 April 1998), better known as Pol Pot (Khmer: ប៉ុល ពត), was a Cambodian Maoist revolutionary who led the Khmer Rouge from 1963 until his death in 1998. From 1963 to 1981, he served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Kampuchea. From 1976 to 1979, he also served as the prime minister of Democratic Kampuchea. Pol Pot became leader of Cambodia on April 17, 1975. During his time in power he imposed agrarian socialism, forcing urban dwellers to relocate to the countryside to work in collective farms and forced labor projects. The combined effects of forced labor, malnutrition, poor medical care, and executions resulted in the deaths of approximately 21% of the Cambodian population. In all, an estimated 1.7 to 2.5 million people (out of a population of slightly over 8 million) died as a result of the policies of his three-year premiership.
In 1979, after the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia, Pol Pot fled to the jungles of southwest Cambodia, and the Khmer Rouge government collapsed. From 1979 to 1997, he and a remnant of the old Khmer Rouge operated near the border of Cambodia and Thailand, where they clung to power, with nominal United Nations recognition as the rightful government of Cambodia. Pol Pot died in 1998 while under house arrest by the Ta Mok faction of the Khmer Rouge. Since his death, rumours that he was poisoned have persisted.

Plot: In 1985, Pol Pot is on a slow retreat; he's in Cambodia's Battembang Region. Four men hide in a darkened room. Pol Pot enters with his deputy, security chief, and a general. The four men in hiding, without conviction, say "Surprise." A banner says "Happy birthday." A cake and candles appear; the four sing "Happy Birthday" without spirit. The intern is given a piece of cake to taste for poison. Then, all are served a slice. A few presents appear: the deputy unwraps a neck support pillow, a book about management, and a decorative stand reading, "Don't ask me I just work here." The leader wants all to get back to work, but an aide brings one more gift: a puppy. A good gift?

The contradiction of relentless desire vs. ultimate destruction taking over the main character's life is summed up in scenes, where a strangely detached American philosopher is spewing dead-on truths about life and death. With a reckless, somewhat sinister distance and dark humor, the director (Anders Bramsen) gives us an unposed picture of a soul, yearning for freedom, and raises the question of what's left when humans are incapable of, or unwilling to live life on life's terms.

Jemeres Rojos (Khmers rouges en francés;, Khmer Krahom en camboyano) es el nombre con el que fue conocida la organización guerrillera camboyana que, tras la Guerra de Vietnam, la expulsión de los Estados Unidos y el derrocamiento del general Lon Nol (que regía una dictadura militar desde 1970), tomó el poder el 17 de abril de 1975 (la «Caída de Phnom Penh»), fundando la Kampuchea Democrática (KD), un sistema de gobierno de características totalitarias que, bajo la apariencia formal de una República Popular de inspiración maoísta, consolidó en la práctica un sistema de economía radicalmente agraria, bajo la consigna de la evacuación de las ciudades y destrucción de la civilización y cultura urbanas, consideradas burguesas, la reconstrucción social desde los orígenes de la civilización (Camboya Año Cero) y la recuperación de la cultura Jemer ancestral camboyana, bajo la dirección de Pol Pot (Saloth Sar), su principal líder, y el férreo control del ejército campesino sobre las población civil, sometida en buena parte a un régimen de trabajos forzados y a la aplicación de extensos métodos de detención, tortura y asesinato en masa y selectivo, bajo la consigna de la llamada búsqueda del enemigo interno.

At the heart of this orchestrated campaign of terror was a death camp known by the code name S-21. Untold thousands of prisoners entered S-21. Only seven escaped alive.

It's really high time to let Pol Pot come out of the jungle to tell the world about the killing fields that were secretly created by all Yuon Vietminh and Vietcong, who were still hiding everywhere in the jungles, had tactfully impersonated themselves as the leaders of the super-illiterate-ignorant Khmer Rouge yotheas and former cruel bandits who brutally massacred too far many million Cambodian gentle-innocent peoples in the name of the mysterious Angkar Leur/Cap Tren Yuon:

2. 13 days before he died, told the world and his Khmer children "Please don't let Yuon swallow up Cambodia. I tell you when I will die; I do not regret anything like Yuon swallowing up Cambodia."
Pol Pot spoke about overthrowing him is that "When they toppled the Democratic Kampuchea in 1979, they already had a plan was a Front, led by Hun Sen and Chea Sim."
Pol Pot, who was believed to be responsible for killing Cambodians under his rule in 1975-1979, said the suffering tragedies are Yuon who created in order to divide and rule Cambodians; my brain can't let me say this.
"First of all, it's historical fact that in 1975, the Vietnamese liberated the South on 30 April. They told us many years ago that they were going to liberate Kampuchea too. They wanted to occupy Kampuchea.
Secondly, they invaded Kampuchea at the end of 1978. My friends, my movement and I didn't submit to them but fought back with the support of the international community until the Paris agreements (1991)."
Pol Pot liberated his country from the imperialist Yankees in 1975; he should have kept all wealths, gold and diamonds for some of his surviving brothers and sisters to live in luxurious villas with air-conditioner like the present Prime Minister-Hun Sen. His brother Saloth Neap, who is living in a poor house that was built on many stilts in Kompong Cham, fanning himself speaking to the reporter with a kind of natural-palm-leaf fan. And he really keeps wondering why his brother, Pol Pot, would make his people so much suffering like that. Even Neap himself painfully suffered so much under Pol Pot's regime:
Saloth Neap, Pol Pot's brother is living in a bamboo hut with palm-leafs wall in Kompong Charm province, poor family by telling the world that, "When he was young, he was a very gentle person and studied hard."
"I didn't tell my family so they wouldn't worry about me." Pol Pot unbelievably said, "That made people think I didn't care about them. It was so that if I was arrested, they wouldn't be involved."
"Even when he was young who was always a gentle person." Neap was still so puzzled; "He used to be a very nice person. How could he make people suffer like this?"

Lotus Talks : Reviving Cambodia Buddhism After Pol Pot "Genocide"
Cambodia, has a long history of Buddhism and is the custodian of a rich Buddhist heritage. Yet, all this was almost destroyed by the “genocidal” Khmer Rouge regime of Pol Pot from 1975-1979. When the regime was overthrown by the invading Vietnamese forces, there were hardly any Buddhist monks left in the country. But, since then, Cambodians have restored their Buddhist monasteries and much of their traditions. In this panel discussion, some of the actors in this great revival of Buddhism talks about those dark days and how Buddhism was revived in the country and the challenges they face now. Pol Pot (* vermutlich 19. Mai 1928 in der Provinz Kompong Thom, Kambodscha; † 15. April 1998 in Anlong Veng; eigentlich Saloth Sar) war ein kambodschanischer kommunistischer Politiker, der Diktator Kambodschas (1975--1979) und bis 1997 der „Bruder Nr. 1] der Roten Khmer. Als Folge seiner Herrschaft kamen zwischen 0,7 und 3,3 Millionen Kambodschaner ums Leben.Als Sohn eines Bauern verbrachte Pol Pot angeblich sechs Jahre seiner Kindheit in einem buddhistischen Kloster, davon zwei Jahre als Mönch. Im Alter von sechs Jahren wurde er zu Verwandten nach Phnom Penh geschickt, um dort zu leben. Hier erlernte er das Zimmererhandwerk. Bereits 1946 war er Mitglied der Kommunistischen Partei Kambodschas, deren Parteisekretär er von 1963 bis 1975 war. -
