Travel video about destination Ireland.
Ireland is one of Europe’s most green and mysterious islands and everyone who visits this isolated island in the Atlantic Ocean is given a very warm welcome. Dublin is the capital of the Irish Republic and it is a city of musicians, poets and dreamers, as well as being a financial centre. Its many old buildings indicate its long and dramatic past. It was founded by the Vikings within a wonderful valley where the River Liffey flows into the Atlantic Ocean. After the Vikings, the Normans conquered the city and ruled over it for seven hundred years and under King Henry The Eighth Dublin became the capital of what was then a British colony. South west of Dublin is Kildare, the heart of Ireland’s horse racing. In 1902 the Irish national stud, Tully House, was founded there. Rich and eccentric Scottish brewery heir, Colonel William Hall-Walker, had the idea of a creating unique horse breeding scheme that would be based upon astrological calculation. The Wicklow Mountains are a natural paradise of mountains, swamps and lakes, beautiful valleys and a fascinating mountain landscape to the south of Dublin. Jerpoint Abbey near Thomastown dates back to the twelfth century and is one of the most beautiful Cistercian ruins in Ireland. It was founded in around 1160 by Donal Mac Gillapatrick, the King Of Ossory. The Cistercians built the monastery in characteristic style and one of the stone sarcophaguses is said to contain the bones of Holy Nicolas who was buried there by the Crusaders. Although much of it has remained unspoiled, Ireland has undergone much change. It is a land of great natural beauty, healthy commercial success and excellent hospitality: a wild green island set in the wild Atlantic Ocean!

Blarney Castle - Located in County Cork This historic castle is known for its "Blarney Stone." Tradition is that if the Blarney Stone is kissed, one will be blessed with great eloquence, better known as "the gift of the gab." One kisses the stone by lying back and being held by an employee of the castle. Photographers are there to capture the moment!
Cliffs of Moher - Located in County Clare One of Ireland's biggest and most visited tourist attractions. The Cliffs are 230 meters in height and tower over the Atlantic Ocean. This attraction, whilst beautiful in the Summer, can be a bit of a tourist trap. If you intend to take your own transport, the over-priced car park is your only option (since the road is too narrow to park on) and to purchase your 'pay-and-display' parking ticket, you will need to go all the way through the gift shop (on the opposite side of the road), before returning to place it in your car.
Kilkenny - One of Ireland's favourite tourist spots, this Medieval Capital just 1 hour 40 minutes train out of Dublin City is a must see. Its beautiful buildings and of course imposing Norman Castle - not to mention the numerous festivals including the Arts Festival and Rhythm and Roots Festival - make Kilkenny a most desirable location.
Co. Donegal - An amazing area to see if you have your own transport, as bus services can be fairly limited. This part of the country is very traditional and you can expect to see plenty of low stone walls, thatched roof houses, rugged hills, cliffs and golden sand beaches. Best visited during Spring or Summer, there are plenty of hills walks and photo opportunities waiting to be discovered.

==========
Bus Tours - For travellers wishing to experience Ireland on a budget, there are a variety of inexpensive bus tours in almost every part of the country. These tours can range from hop-on hop-off busses in major cities such as Dublin and Cork to 5-day trips through some of the most scenic parts of the country. The bus drivers/guides are generally well informed about Irish history and enjoy sharing local legends and songs with anyone happy to 'lend and ear'.

Follow my adventures as I experience being in a medieval castle, Irish dancing, the Guinness factory and more (unfortunately no Leprechauns show up).
I had the time of my life on my trip to Ireland back in November when I visited Dublin, Galway and Connemara.
P.S. I apologize for spinning/twirling around so much. I thought I was in The Sound Of Music or something...

Ireland Travel Video Guide, Meet a Local Travel Series
Meet the locals as the Overlander travels around Ireland - Complete Program
See the beauty and hospitality of Ireland, through the eyes of it's people.
Stories include:
In Dublin I interviewed Niamh Ni Mhir who works for Hostel World,a local IT business that rode the Celtic Tiger to become the biggest Hostel booking website online Niamh explains how Ireland has changed since my last visit, in the early 1990 s and also tells us what it is she likes about living in Dublin.
I interview Kathleen Moran about the Kilkenny Craft Centre and how Kilkenny established itself as Ireland's craft capital.
In Belfast I interviewed Sean McKernan, a photographer who in 1983 set up a photo exhibition called Belfast Exposed, featuring a lot of images from the height of the troubles.
On the Aran Islands I interviewed Teresa Millane, an old style (Sean Nos) singer.
In Galway I interviewed actor Diarmuid de Faoite about the flourishing arts scene.
The small fishing Village of Dingle on the West Coast of Ireland is home to a friendly Dolphin called Fungi, who seems to prefer the company of humans to his own kind.
In Doolin I interviewed Banjo player, Kevin Griffin about why Doolin has become the traditional music capital of Ireland.
Sean now runs an multifunction arts centre called BX Arts.
Sean discusses how Belfast has changed since the 1997 ceasefire.
In Cork I try and trace my Irish ancestors (O'Shea), and look at the modern day immigration of Polish workers to Ireland.
For my final Irish story, I visit Cahersiveen where there are some Stone Forts that may well been the home of my Shea ancestors.
IF YOU LIKE THE PROGRAM PLEASE RATE IT AND LEAVE ME A COMMENT, LOVED TO HEAR FROM YOU - MARK

Dublin - City Video Guide
This video for Dublin is one of our older productions, but we wanted to share it with you to get some feedback on how these older clips compare to the more recent travel guides we’ve shot. The city of Dublin, Ireland, is over a thousand years old and straddles the River Liffey.
The word “Dublin” is a derivative of “Duiblinn,” which means black pool, or dark tide pool. Dublin’s black pool has since ceased to exist, but its former location is marked behind Dublin Castle. Speaking of the castle, your Dublin sightseeing should include a stop at the castle walls—it’s been in continuous use since its construction in the 13th century, and it’s a striking piece of architecture. Looking for something a little more modern? Have a look around Dame Street; there’s no shortage of shops to check out, or pubs that will welcome you to sample their fare.
Ready to jump back into Dublin’s history? Head to Jervis Street, where you can get to know one of Ireland’s most famous characters at the National Leprechaun Museum, Learn about the mythology of and tour exhibits related to that mythological figurehead of Irish lore, and maybe search for a pot of gold. Kilmainham Gaol is another popular tourist destination; this is where you’ll find a record of Ireland’s political history, as well as see the living conditions inside a notoriously rough prison.
In the evening, head for the Temple Bar, a district that serves as the hub of the city’s nightlife. It is where you’ll go to eat dinner, grab drinks, go dancing, or to watch the fascinating people of Dublin go by.

Welcome to Cork City, Ireland.
Cork City has a long and varied past. The Irish variant of the name, “Corcaigh,” is derived from the word for “marsh,” though it hasn’t been a marshy area for quite some time. The city is built atop the River Lee, rich splits into two channels around the central area. Cork City has been important avenue for Irish trade since the early 900s, when Vikings used the port as a base of operations. A deep sense of history pervades the area; today, when you stroll down the streets of Cork City, you’re very likely treading over ancient waterways.
When you tour Cork City, consider stopping at the Cork City Gaol. Originally opened in 1824, this gaol was described as “the finest in three kingdoms,” and it has housed both petty criminals and terrifying murderers. After closing in 1923, the gaol found use as a radio station and opened as a museum in 1994.
Squeeze in some additional history in your Cork City sightseeing with a stop at Blackrock Castle Observatory. This 16th-century castle sits on the banks of the River Lee, and within its ancient stone walls are a science center, a restaurant, and an informational section about the city.
Where will you go in Cork City?

Dublin Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Dublin in Ireland.
Dublin is the capital of the Irish Republic and is a city of musicians, poets and dreamers. Its Georgian buildings, whisky distilleries and historic castles are tangible and colorful reminders of bygone times. Numerous well preserved buildings, cafes, churches and idyllic canals also add to the captivating atmosphere of this fun loving city.
One of the city's main landmarks is a splendid structure, Halfpenny Bridge, which derived its name due to a toll that was once extracted from those who crossed it.
Dublin Castle is one of the city's oldest buildings. It has seen much transformation and is a combination of several building styles. After the Vikings, the Normans conquered the city and ruled over it for 700 years and under King Henry VIII, Dublin became the capital of what was then a British colony.
Trinity College is Ireland's oldest and most venerable university. It was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I. The high standard of education offered here has attracted famous pupils such as Jonathan Swift, Henry Grattan and Samuel Becket.
Dublin's General Post Office was once the site of an important historical event. Under the leadership of Padraig Pearse and James Connolly, around a hundred men occupied the post office and thus began Ireland's struggle for Independence. In Easter of 1916, the Irish Republic was born.
Bursting with pubs and music, this most hospitable city is a wonderful combination of lively city life and infectious Irish blarney!

"Games of Thrones" Boosts Tourism in Northern Ireland
HBO's Popular TV series Game of Thrones has given Northern Ireland's economy an unexpected tourism boast.
Local officials say filming of the series in Northern Ireland has led to 110 million pounds (some 180 million U.S. dollars)in investment to the economy.
Filming for the sixth series of the hugely successful TV show Game of Thrones is underway in Northern Ireland and fans of the show are flocking to Northern Ireland to get a glimpse of locations, leading to a surge in tourism.
Tourism chiefs are hoping to exploit the show’s phenomenon.
"The demand and the number of visitors that are coming through are growing each year and more and more of the tourism industry is developing businesses around these actual locations, and the whole theme of Game of Thrones. Certainly we feel that the momentum is here now and will continue as the program continues to be aired by HBO," said Judith Webb, Experience Development Officer, Tourism Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland Screen, a government backed agency for the film, television and digital content industry, has provided 12.5 million pounds of funding for the production and said the series has added 110 million pounds to the local economy so far.
Businesses were quick to capitalize on the show’s popularity, offering guided tours of film locations.
"Throughout all of 2015, we’ve had a bus of 40 people, every day of the week, seven days of the week, since we started running full time. And it’s just been phenomenal," said Dorothy Nealon, a tour guide of Game of Thrones Tours.
The production has created 900 full-time jobs and over 5,000 part-time jobs, with wages trickling down to the local economy.
Additionally tourism operators say there has been a sharp increase in visitors to the area.
"We started this idea here last year. so last season between Easter and Halloween we had roughly about 10,000 extra people coming to Castle Ward which in itself is a historical building and a place for people to come and see. But because of Game of Thrones we had an extra 10,000 people actually arrive here, and they come from all over the world. The Americans because they know it straight off because they know George A. R. Martin the author but we find the Australians and Canadians are probably the most fanatical," said William Vanderkells with Winterfell Tours.

Turks in a battle with the Irish tourism 2015
Oops, wrong guy! Irish tourist, professional boxer, overpowers Turkish mob
Angered at an Irish tourist, shopkeepers in İstanbul's Aksaray district appeared to be messing up with the wrong guy -- a professional boxer.
Few days ago, the tourist booked an hotel room in Aksaray as part of his trip in Turkey. Near his hotel, he went to pick up a bottled water, but he opened the door of a merchandized refrigerator so hard that dozens of water bottles dropped to the ground. Seconds after the incident, owner of the shop approached the Irish tourist and hit him with a stick.
In a sign of solidarity, neighboring shopkeepers also started assailing the tourist. But they were unaware that the tourist is a professional boxer.
As soon as he realized that he needs to fight back, the tourist put his sunglasses on his head and positioned himself as if he was on a ring ready to fight against his rival. He started putting down a mob of shopkeepers one by one. One of them could hardly walk after taking a hit on the face.
As shopkeepers understood that it will be difficult to tackle him, they asked for help. The crowd immediately swelled. The tourist and the shopkeepers then retreated to nurse their wounds. The tourist took a shelter inside his hotel. Minutes later, the tourist left the hotel and dived into the crowd. The shopkeepers had started using clubs, hard banners and stools to fight off the tourist. The Irishman again retreated to his hotel lobby several times, replenished his strength and attacked again.
Shocked, the shopkeepers decided to calm down and retreated.

NORTHERN IRELAND: BUSINESS & TOURISM AFFECTED BY RECENT TROUBLES
English/Nat
This week's riots in Northern Ireland have already cost the province tens of (m) millions of dollars, and its feared the bill will rise sharply by July 12 when the marching season reaches its climax.
APTV visited the province to see how business and tourism have been affected by the recent troubles.
The view over Newry may be peaceful, but that's deceptive.
Approaching the town along the main road between Belfast and Dublin motorists edge their way past roadblocks of burnt out lorries.
Inside Newry itself workmen remove wreckage from a government building which was set on fire.
Local people say the violence affects their lives in many ways.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Well it's hard to get about, depends where you're going to. You can't take taxis, taxis are all off the road, in case they get hijacked, so literally you're in your own estate."
SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"The people, as far as we know, who are causing all this damage belong to Newry. They're the people that would cry for employment and yet they're putting businesses out of business and creating unemployment."
SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I don't like the violence, you're sort of paying for it at night, but at the same time you have to sort of do something."
SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop
Back on the road overlooking the town an American tourist is getting his first real taste of the troubles.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I've seen a lot of graffiti on the road, aside from that I really haven't seen a lot until I just came to this site here. This is my first sight I've seen of destruction and an actual terrorist act."
SUPER CAPTION: Jon Hazell, American tourist
This is the usual face of tourism in Northern Ireland, an open air swimming pool in the seaside town of Newcastle, south of Belfast.
The town rarely sees any violence itself.
But there's concern T-V pictures of rioting, beamed worldwide, will drive away the desperately needed holiday makers.
This tourist office was firebombed earlier this year. The tourist officer admits the current wave of violence has affected the number of visitors to the town.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Well I suppose up until the last few days we were actually very positive about what tourism was going to be like here for the summer. We had considerable bookings but over these past few days I have to say we've had some cancellations. Obviously the pictures going out about Northern Ireland are not helping us here in Newcastle."
SUPER CAPTION: Angela Gilchrist, local tourist officer
Newcastle, with just 7-thousand permanent residents sees its population rise to 60-thousand during the peak holiday season.
This Dutch tourist hasn't been put off by the violence.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"It doesn't make for much peace of mind. Reading the newspaper yesterday and knowing what was going on but still we're not looking for any, we don't want to get involved in any of the troubles. We're sort of picking the route a bit, still it doesn't worry us that much. I've never heard of any tourist being molested in any way."
SUPER CAPTION: Ed Van Estrik, Dutch tourist
Despite this vote of confidence from a foreign tourist shopkeepers in the town say they're worried about losing business.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"There's big concern this particular week. After the Drumcree incident last week people are very worried. There's a terrible fear around the country at the present moment. People are scared to move from town to town. There's a general deadness in Newcastle at the present moment. Hopefully after the 12th day demonstrations are over things will improve."

Post Earthquake Nepal Tourism Promotion in Ireland 13th July 2015
On 13th July 2015, Nepal Embassy London organized a Post-Earthquake Nepal Tourism Promotion Programme in Dublin, Ireland in co-operation with Nepal Ireland Society. The main objective of the programme was to inform Irish tourists about the ground reality in the country after the earthquake and hence convince them that it is OK to visit Nepal. In this video, President of Nepal Ireland Society and Nepal Tourism Board Public Relations Representative (NTB-HPRR) for Ireland Mr. Deepesh Man Shakya presents the damage done by the earthquake to Nepal's tourism industry, also a key source of foreign exchange, and explains how the tourists can help the country and its people to get back on their feet. Mr. Shakya requested the Irish public who were present at the event to be ambassadors of Nepal Tourism and help to drive tourists to Nepal by explaining the ground reality rather than just going with the hype that the place is not safe after the earthquake.

Developing and harnessing golf tourism and film tourism as economic drivers
Dr Peter Bolan, Dr Karise Hutchinson and Mr Matthew Kearney (Ulster) - Developing and harnessing golf tourism and film tourism as economic drivers
This presentation explains that golf and film tourism are both highly lucrative and Northern Ireland must develop and plan for them in a more strategic manner. First it outlines findings from an extensive study (utilising surveys, interviews, and observation methods internationally and domestically) by Ulster Business School, which analysed and evaluated the Northern Ireland golf tourism product by focusing on perspectives of golf tourists and specialist golf tour operators with an integral economic impact assessment of the recent Irish Open 2012 at Royal Portrush. The presentation highlights how, if leveraged properly, this high-spend form of tourism can bring job creation, new business development, urban and coastal regeneration, improved quality of hotel/restaurant provision and improved image as a tourist destination. Thereafter the presentation focuses on film tourism, which can also bring enormous opportunities in terms of global destination image as well as economic impact and development. It highlights that there is an urgent need to capitalise on the tourism potential of on-going film productions in Northern Ireland, explaining strategic opportunities for destination development and enhancement based on global online research (netnography) undertaken with the fan-base of Game of Thrones, and further supplemented with analysis of key informant interviews with industry stakeholders which have recently begun Game of Thrones tours and activity based experiences. It concludes outlining new insights that could help to inform new strategic directions for developing Northern Ireland’s tourism product in this area.
