The Man Booker Prize for Fiction 2014 winner was announced at the Guildhall on 14 October in a ceremony attended by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.
The winner was announced by A C Grayling, chair of the judges.

The Vegetarian, a novel about a woman who "wants to reject human brutality" and gives up eating meat, has won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize.
The book was translated by Deborah Smith, who only started teaching herself Korean in 2010.
Judging panel chairman Boyd Tonkin said South Korean author Han Kang's work was "unforgettably powerful and original".
The writer and her British translator will split the award's £50,000 prize money.
The pair saw off competition from Turkish Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk, Italian writer Elena Ferrante, Angolan wordsmith Jose Eduardo Agualusa, Chinese author Yan Lianke and Austrian novelist Robert Seethaler to take the prize.
Smith, whose only language was English until she was 21, decided to become a translator on finishing her English Literature degree having noticed the lack of English-Korean translators.
She said she was "certainly not a born Korean speaker" and still spoke Korean "very much like somebody who learned it from a textbook".
"I had no connection with Korean culture - I don't think I had even met a Korean person - but I wanted to become a translator because it combined reading and writing and I wanted to learn a language.
"Korean seemed like a strangely obvious choice, because it is a language which practically nobody in this country studies or knows."
'Exquisite and disturbing'
She said she initially tried to translate the book for a publisher after only learning Korean for two years, but the translation was "awful".
However, after publisher Portobello Books asked her if she had a Korean book that would be "right for their list", she had another go at translating a year later.
She has gone on to translate a number of Korean texts, including two Bae Suah works - The Essayist's Desk and The Low Hills of Seoul - and has recently founded a not-for-profit publishing house dedicated to Asian and African literature.
The Vegetarian was creative writing lecturer Han Kang's first novel to be translated into English. Her second, Human Acts, has since been published.

It's been hailed by critics as "mesmerizing", "extraordinary" and "ferociously brilliant," and now Korean author Han Kang can add the ultimate endorsement to her novel "The Vegetarian": this year's Man Booker International Prize for fiction.
Han is the first Korean to ever win the prestigious award.
Kim Mok-yeon has the details.
Korean novelist Han Kang and her translator Deborah Smith won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize for Han's novel "The Vegetarian" at a ceremony in London on Monday.
"The Vegetarian", which tells the story of a woman who "wants to reject human brutality" and stops eating meat, was one of 155 books submitted for this year's prize.
Han beat world-renowned writers including Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk and international bestseller Elena Ferrante.
Han and Smith, who only began studying Korean seven years ago, will share the 72-thousand U.S. dollar prize money.
Through her book, Han said she wanted to raise questions and share her thoughts about being human.
"When I was writing The Vegetarian, I wanted to question about being a human, and I wanted to describe a woman who desperately didn't want to belong to the human race any longer and desperately wanted to reject being human who commit such violence."
Smith says the book has something for everyone, regardless of where they are from.
"It deserves a wider audience. Also it has the potential to reach that audience. It has universal appeal."
The Man Booker Prize, which has been around for more than 40 years, is considered one of the world's most distinguished literature prizes.
Local experts expect the win to motivate Korean novelists to reach out to foreign readers and give a boost the local publishing scene.

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original full-length novel, written in the English language, by a citizen of the Commonwealth of Nations, Ireland, or Zimbabwe. The winner of the Man Booker Prize is generally assured of international renown and success; therefore, the prize is of great significance for the book trade. In contrast to literary prizes in the United States, the Booker Prize is greeted with great anticipation and fanfare. It is also a mark of distinction for authors to be selected for inclusion in the shortlist or even to be nominated for the "longlist".
The prize was originally known as the Booker-McConnell Prize, after the company Booker-McConnell began sponsoring the event in 1968; it became commonly known as the "Booker Prize" or simply "the Booker." When administration of the prize was transferred to the Booker Prize Foundation in 2002, the title sponsor became the investment company Man Group, which opted to retain "Booker" as part of the official title of the prize. The foundation is an independent registered charity funded by the entire profits of Booker Prize Trading Ltd., of which it is the sole shareholder. The prize money awarded with the Booker Prize was originally £21,000, and was subsequently raised to £50,000 in 2002 under the sponsorship of the Man Group, making it one of the world's richest literary prizes.

한강, 한국인 최초 맨부커상 수상 It's been hailed by critics as "mesmerizing", "extraordinary" and "ferociously brilliant," and now Korean author Han Kang can add the ultimate endorsement to her novel "The Vegetarian": this year's Man Booker International Prize for fiction. Han is the first Korean to ever win the prestigious award. Kim Mok-yeon has the details. Korean novelist Han Kang and her translator Deborah Smith won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize for Han's novel "The Vegetarian" at a ceremony in London on Monday. "The Vegetarian", which tells the story of a woman who "wants to reject human brutality" and stops eating meat, was one of 155 books submitted for this year's prize. Han beat world-renowned writers including Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk and international bestseller Elena Ferrante. Han and Smith, who only began studying Korean seven years ago, will share the 72-thousand U.S. dollar prize money. Through her book, Han said she wanted to raise questions and share her thoughts about being human. "When I was writing The Vegetarian, I wanted to question about being a human, and I wanted to describe a woman who desperately didn't want to belong to the human race any longer and desperately wanted to reject being human who commit such violence." Smith says the book has something for everyone, regardless of where they are from. "It deserves a wider audience. Also it has the potential to reach that audience. It has universal appeal." The Man Booker Prize, which has been around for more than 40 years, is considered one of the world's most distinguished literature prizes. Local experts expect the win to motivate Korean novelists to reach out to foreign readers and give a boost the local publishing scene. Kim Mok-yeon, Arirang News. She said she was "certainly not a born Korean speaker" and still spoke Korean "very much like somebody who learned it from a textbook".
"I had no connection with Korean culture - I don't think I had even met a Korean person - but I wanted to become a translator because it combined reading and writing and I wanted to learn a language.
"Korean seemed like a strangely obvious choice, because it is a language which practically nobody in this country studies or knows."
'Exquisite and disturbing'
She said she initially tried to translate the book for a publisher after only learning Korean for two years, but the translation was "awful".
However, after publisher Portobello Books asked her if she had a Korean book that would be "right for their list", she had another go at translating a year later.
She has gone on to translate a number of Korean texts, including two Bae Suah works - The Essayist's Desk and The Low Hills of Seoul - and has recently founded a not-for-profit publishing house dedicated to Asian and African literature.
The Vegetarian was creative writing lecturer Han Kang's first novel to be translated into English. Her second, Human Acts, has since been published.

It's been hailed by critics as "mesmerizing", "extraordinary" and "ferociously brilliant," and now Korean author Han Kang can add the ultimate endorsement to her novel "The Vegetarian": this year's Man Booker International Prize for fiction.
Han is the first Korean to ever win the prestigious award.
Kim Mok-yeon has the details.
Korean novelist Han Kang and her translator Deborah Smith won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize for Han's novel "The Vegetarian" at a ceremony in London on Monday.
"The Vegetarian", which tells the story of a woman who "wants to reject human brutality" and stops eating meat, was one of 155 books submitted for this year's prize.
Han beat world-renowned writers including Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk and international bestseller Elena Ferrante.
Han and Smith, who only began studying Korean seven years ago, will share the 72-thousand U.S. dollar prize money.
Through her book, Han said she wanted to raise questions and share her thoughts about being human.
"When I was writing The Vegetarian, I wanted to question about being a human, and I wanted to describe a woman who desperately didn't want to belong to the human race any longer and desperately wanted to reject being human who commit such violence."
Smith says the book has something for everyone, regardless of where they are from.
"It deserves a wider audience. Also it has the potential to reach that audience. It has universal appeal."
The Man Booker Prize, which has been around for more than 40 years, is considered one of the world's most distinguished literature prizes.
Local experts expect the win to motivate Korean novelists to reach out to foreign readers and give a boost the local publishing scene.
