So here's Mind The Gap: The Cypher. Three Midlands MCs – Kamakaze, Eyez and Mez – go head to head with three London MCs – Dave, Jammz and AJ Tracey.
Last month, a host of MCs swung by London's Studios to pool their abilities for Mind The Gap – a collaborative mixtape shining a light on the best MCs and producers from north of the Watford Gap. It got us to thinking: with all this talent coming out of the regions, are the Midlands ready to take on London on their own soil?

On 11th May 1963 the by then unique long-deflectored Bulleid "West Country" Pacific no. 34006 "Bude" was employed on the joint RCTS/LCGB 'North Midlands Tour" from London St Pancras to Derby Midland where it gave way to Thompson's LNER B1 class loco no. 61004 "Oryx" for a run down the old Midland Main Line through the Peak District to Buxton Midland. Our last view shows a National Coal Board exhibition train in the bay at Buxton, using Gresley stock either repainted in or still sporting Teak livery! North Midlands
The North Midlands is a loosely defined area of England. It is typically held to include the counties of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and in some definitions also covers southern Cheshire, parts of Lincolnshire and Staffordshire.
History
A North Midlands region was first defined for the 1881 UK census. It was defined as the entirety of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. A new definition of the region appeared in 1939, for various government statistical purposes: Derbyshire without High Peak, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland and the Soke of Peterborough. In 1942, High Peak was added, but it was removed again in 1946. In 1962, it was merged into a new Midlands statistical region.
The North Midlands has remained in use as an informal term for part of the area, covering South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, even though South Yorkshire never formed part of the statistical region. For example, in the 1960s, Sheffield was described in an official publication as "the vigorous shopping and cultural centre of the North Midlands".

Mind the gap
"Mind the gap" is an audible or visual warning phrase issued to rail passengers in the UK (and elsewhere) to take caution while crossing the horizontal, and in some cases vertical, spatial gap between the train door and the station platform.
The phrase was first introduced in 1969 on the London Underground in the United Kingdom. The phrase is also associated with souvenir T-shirts that Transport for London sells, featuring the warning printed over the network's roundel logo.
Origin of the phrase
The phrase "Mind the gap" was coined in around 1968 for a planned automated announcement, after it had become impractical for drivers and station attendants to warn passengers. London Underground chose digital recording using solid state equipment with no moving parts. As data storage capacity was expensive, the phrase had to be short. A concise warning was also easier to paint onto the platform.
The equipment was supplied by AEG Telefunken. According to the Independent on Sunday, sound engineer Peter Lodge, who owned Redan Recorders in Bayswater, working with a Scottish Telefunken engineer, recorded an actor reading "Mind the gap" and "Stand clear of the doors please", but the actor insisted on royalties and the phrases had to be re-recorded. Lodge read the phrases to line up the recording equipment for level and those were used.

NORTHERN MIDLANDS HERITAGE TRAIL TASMANIA TOURISM TRAVEL HERITAGE TRAIL
Welcome to Northern Midlands. Northern Midlands is one of the largest and most diverse municipalities in Tasmania. It covers an area of 5,130 km , extending from Liffey Bluff in the west to Mount St John in the east (150kms) and from Relbia in the north to Tooms Lake in the south (95kms). The landscape changes from mountainous country on its eastern and western boundaries to extensive grazing lands renowned for fine wool production, the rich agricultural river flats of the Esk, Lake and Macquarie Rivers; historic towns and villages; and from small businesses to multi-million dollar enterprises. The population of approximately 12,500 is expected to increase by 1,000 over the next five years as development continues to occur in and around the towns of Longford, Perth and Evandale.

Boating Through Georgian Bay - Midland to Henry's Restaurant
This segment of our summer boat cruise takes us from Midland, Ontario on Georgian Bay - leaving the Town Docks and passing over to Bayport Yachting Centre. Leaving Bayport, we traveled northward through Honey Harbour and into the heart of the beautiful Thirty Thousand Islands region. Our ultimate destination for the day (and subsequent three nights) was the 'world famous' Henry's Fish Restaurant. Henry's is a simple fish and chips restaurant, stuck on an island in an area known as Sans Souci, which translates to 'without cares'. As it is situated on an island, access is only by way of boat or float plane - both which are happy to make the trip to this special place. Wednesday
Baltra Island/North Seymour Island
We arrive by plane at Baltra Island and transfer to the dock to board the M/V Santa Cruz where we receive our welcome introductory briefing, boat drill and lunch.
North Seymour Island
This is a great introductory site to the islands and their wildlife, full of bird colonies of blue footed boobies, two species of frigate birds, swallow tailed gulls, as well as sea lions and marine iguanas.
Thursday
Punta Vicente Roca (Isabela Island)/Punta Espinoza (Fernandina Island)
After breakfast, we explore the coast by panga, while our naturalist guide explains the dramatic geology of the area, nesting place for a Galápagos highlight: flightless cormorants. Depending on weather conditions, we can snorkel along the cliffs of this area rich in marine life, seasonally-visited by green sea turtles and oceanic sun fish (Mola mola).
Punta Espinoza (Fernandina Island)
The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the youngest island of the archipelago, Fernandina, which, having no introduced mammals, boasts a very unique environment with a very high density of marine iguanas, who share their space with sea lions, Sally light-foot crabs, hawks, penguins and the flightless cormorants.
Friday
Tagus Cove/Urbina Bay (Isabela Island)
After breakfast, we land at this cove on the northwest of Isabela. It provided a favourite anchorage for pirates and whalers over the centuries. An uphill hike takes guests to the rim of a crater, Darwin lake, filled with salt water and to a dramatic viewpoint. After our walk, we take a panga ride to spot local wildlife, with the possibility of swimming or snorkelling.
Urbina Bay (Isabela Island)
After lunch we disembark at Urbina Bay, the fascinating result of an uplifting of the ocean floor in 1954. Here we can admire corals, shells and many other calcareous organisms exposed above water. First we enjoy a snorkel from the beach, with the chance of swimming with flightless cormorants. This are is also home to a large and very colourful Galápagos land iguanas, and occasionally to giant tortoises. We return back on board for our expedition plan for Saturday and dinner.
Saturday
Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Station (Santa Cruz Island)
In the morning, we disembark (dry landing) for our visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station's giant tortoise Breeding Centre within an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest home to many land birds. These are the headquarters of scientific investigation, conservation and the National Park administration. Following our visit, we board our transport to enjoy lunch in the cooler highlands of Santa Cruz Island, a completely different ecosystem.
Santa Cruz Island
We have several options available (mountain biking, kayaking in Tortuga Bay, hiking) for the afternoon, which can be discussed in advance with your Expedition Leader. At the end of the afternoon's activities, we return to Puerto Ayora and embark on the Santa Cruz.
Sunday
Post Office Bay / Champion Islet and Cormorant Point (Floreana Island)
A short walk leads us to the historic barrel where postcards are traditionally left for guests from other vessels to hand-deliver to their destinations. Near Post Office Bay, we explore the north shore of Floreana along narrow channels teeming with life. We then head back on board for lunch.
Champion Islet and Cormorant Point (Floreana Island)
Following lunch and a siesta, we take to the pangas and glass-bottom boat to explore the underwater wonders around Champion Islet, an extinct shield volcano, regarded as one of the best snorkelling spots in the archipelago. From there, it's on to Cormorant Point, beginning with a wet landing on the olivine-crystal beach for an easy walk that includes a brackish water lagoon where bird species such as greater flamingos, pintail ducks, common stilts, herons, sandpipers, and others gather. We continue our walk over to a white-sand beach, where sea turtles emerge from the sea at night to nest (from December to May).
Monday

We disembark at Baltra Island in order to transfer to the airport to take the flight back to the mainland.

This segment of our summer boat cruise takes us from Midland, Ontario on Georgian Bay - leaving the Town Docks and passing over to Bayport Yachting Centre. Leaving Bayport, we traveled northward through Honey Harbour and into the heart of the beautiful Thirty Thousand Islands region.
Our ultimate destination for the day (and subsequent three nights) was the 'world famous' Henry's Fish Restaurant. Henry's is a simple fish and chips restaurant, stuck on an island in an area known as Sans Souci, which translates to 'without cares'. As it is situated on an island, access is only by way of boat or float plane - both which are happy to make the trip to this special place.
Trying to capture the awesome beauty of this area is challenging, as one must see it first hand to really 'get it'. That said, I'm happy to share these clips with you, so that you may get an idea of the rugged beauty that defines this area.
I also took a considerable amount of Go Pro videos while up here, so look for them on my Channel as well.. . .

On 11th May 1963 the by then unique long-deflectored Bulleid "West Country" Pacific no. 34006 "Bude" was employed on the joint RCTS/LCGB 'North Midlands Tour" from London St Pancras to Derby Midland where it gave way to Thompson's LNER B1 class loco no. 61004 "Oryx" for a run down the old Midland Main Line through the Peak District to Buxton Midland. Our last view shows a National Coal Board exhibition train in the bay at Buxton, using Gresley stock either repainted in or still sporting Teak livery!
