Divya Om Prakash Bharti (25 February 1974 – 5 April 1993) was an Indian film actress who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu films in the early 1990s. Divya began her career as an actress in Telugu films with the film Bobbili Raja in 1990. She progressed to Hindi films in 1992 with Vishwatma. Bharti went on to have commercial success with films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana that same year, for which she garnered a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Divya died on 5 April 1993 at the age of 19 after falling from the balcony of her 5th storey apartment in Versova.The cause of her death was never been officially confirmed but media speculated that it was either murder, accidental death or suicide. The circumstances of her death still remains a mystery.
Divya Om Prakash Bharti (February 25, 1974 – April 5, 1993) was an Indian film actress, who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu language films in the early 1990s. Through her successful film career, she had established herself as one of the most popular film actresses in India.
Bharti started to get offers in films as early as 14 years of age, and after several unsuccessful attempts, she made her debut with a lead role in the successful Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990), aged 16. After starring in a number of high-grossing Telugu films, she went on to Bollywood films in 1992 with the action thriller Vishwatma. Bharti further went on to have commercial success alongside actors such as Govinda and Rishi Kapoor in films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana, respectively; the latter of which garnered her a Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year.[1] Bharti acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and early 1993 which is to date an unbroken record for a newcomer in Bollywood.[2]
Bharti died on 5 April 1993 at the age of 19,[3] from injuries sustained after falling off the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment at Tulsi Buildings in Versova, Mumbai.[4] The cause of her falling was never officially confirmed, that whether it was a murder, suicide or accident.[5] Her parents called her death as an accident and the Mumbai Police closed the investigations into her death in 1998, labeling it as accidental
Early life[edit]
Bharti was born in Mumbai, India, to Om Prakash Bharti, an insurance officer, and his wife, Meeta Bharti.[7] She had a younger brother named Kunal and two half-siblings who were the children of Bharti's father first marriage.[8] She spoke Hindi, English, and Marathi fluently. In her early years, Bharti was known for her bubbly personality[9] and for her doll-like looks.[10] Actress Kainaat Arora is her second cousin.[11]
Bharti studied at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai. She was an average student and completed 9th standard before pursuing an acting career.[12]
Career[edit]
1988 – 1990: Early work[edit]
In 1988, Bharti was discovered by filmmaker Nandu Tolani. Upon seeing her, Tolani insisted on signing her for one of his films. At that time, Bharti was in the ninth standard (in ninth grade). She was originally scheduled to make her screen debut in Gunahon Ka Devta in 1988, but her role was cancelled.[13] Kirti Kumar noticed Bharti at a video library and thus was eager to sign her for his project Radha Ka Sangam opposite Govinda, as he was searching for a new face. Weeks later, Kumar met with Dilip Shankar and managed to release Bharti from her contract. After taking dancing and acting lessons for months to prepare for her role, Bharti was eventually dropped and replaced by Juhi Chawla.[13] Though the reasons remain unclear, it was speculated that Kumar's possessiveness over Bharti and her childish nature was the cause of her replacement.
Death and aftermath[edit]
On 5 April 1993, around 11 PM, Bharti fell off the balcony of her fifth floor apartment at the Tulsi buildings in Versova, Mumbai. After neighbours discovered her, she was rushed in an ambulance to the emergency department at Cooper Hospital where doctors failed to revive her. The immediate cause of death was stated as the heavy internal bleeding at the back of the head which was severely damaged[33] The reason of falling was never established and several theories circulated in the media during that time including, falling under influence of alcohol, push by someone, and involvement of her husband and underworld mafia.[34][35][36][9] The investigation was closed in 1998 by Mumbai police and reason of death was stated as accidental death.[10] She was cremated on 7 April 1993 at the Vile Parle crematorium, Mumbai.[33][37]
Two of Bharti's completed films Rang and Shatranj were released several months after her death. She had completed more than half of Laadla when she died. Later Sridevi was recast in her role. She was replaced in several other films she had signed such as Mohra, Kartavya, Vijaypath and Andolan.[38][39][40] Her incomplete Telugu film Tholi Muddhu was partly completed by Indian actress Rambha, who slightly resembled Bharti and hence completed a few scenes of the movie for her.[41] Two movies which she had signed were subsequently shelved, Parinaam with Akshay Kumar[42] and Chaal Pe Chaal with Jackie Shroff.[43]

Hi Starlets! This tribute is to my favorite Bollywood star Divya Bharti. Divya was born on February 25th,1974 to her parents Meeta Bharti and Om Prakash Bharti. Divya spoke Hindi, Marathi and English fluently, Divya was known for her bubbly personality and love of life, also for her doll-like features. Divya would face a tragic fate when she fell off the balcony of her five-story tulsi apartment building and then died not long after. Divya's death remains unsolved to this day as when the Mumbai police searched for evidence they were unable to find any and her case was closed in 1998 and labeled as accidental but the fact that they found nothing and the cause is unknown is a little sketchy to me so the likely hood of it being a suicide seems highly unlikely considering her personality so to me it had to be either a murder or accident but regardless Divya remains one of the greatest actresses of her time and always will.

He used to play the role of Kamla in the stage play by the famous Dewan Mandir Natak Samaj Koliwada. Starting his career in 1942, he was a popular supporting actor from the 1950s until the 1980s.
Om Prakash played the leading man in films like Dus Lakh, Annadata and Charandas 'Sadhu aur Shaitan'. Hi Starlets! This tribute is to my favorite Bollywood star Divya Bharti. Divya was born on February 25th,1974 to her parents Meeta Bharti and Om Prakash Bharti. Divya spoke Hindi, Marathi and English fluently, Divya was known for her bubbly personality and love of life, also for her doll-like features. Divya would face a tragic fate when she fell off the balcony of her five-story tulsi apartment building and then died not long after. Divya's death remains unsolved to this day as when the Mumbai police searched for evidence they were unable to find any and her case was closed in 1998 and labeled as accidental but the fact that they found nothing and the cause is unknown is a little sketchy to me so the likely hood of it being a suicide seems highly unlikely considering her personality so to me it had to be either a murder or accident but regardless Divya remains one of the greatest actresses of her time and always will. Bharti was born in Mumbai, India, to Om Prakash Bharti, an insurance officer, and his wife, Meeta Bharti.[7] She had a younger brother named Kunal and two half-siblings who were the children of Bharti's father first marriage.[8] She spoke Hindi, English, and Marathi fluently. In her early years, Bharti was known for her bubbly personality[9] and for her doll-like looks.[10] Actress Kainaat Arora is her second cousin.[11]
Bharti studied at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai. She was an average student and completed 9th standard before pursuing an acting career.[12]
Career[edit]
1988 – 1990: Early work[edit]
In 1988, Bharti was discovered by filmmaker Nandu Tolani. Upon seeing her, Tolani insisted on signing her for one of his films. At that time, Bharti was in the ninth standard (in ninth grade). She was originally scheduled to make her screen debut in Gunahon Ka Devta in 1988, but her role was cancelled.[13] Kirti Kumar noticed Bharti at a video library and thus was eager to sign her for his project Radha Ka Sangam opposite Govinda, as he was searching for a new face. Weeks later, Kumar met with Dilip Shankar and managed to release Bharti from her contract. After taking dancing and acting lessons for months to prepare for her role, Bharti was eventually dropped and replaced by Juhi Chawla.[13] Though the reasons remain unclear, it was speculated that Kumar's possessiveness over Bharti and her childish nature was the cause of her replacement.
Death and aftermath[edit]
On 5 April 1993, around 11 PM, Bharti fell off the balcony of her fifth floor apartment at the Tulsi buildings in Versova, Mumbai. After neighbours discovered her, she was rushed in an ambulance to the emergency department at Cooper Hospital where doctors failed to revive her. The immediate cause of death was stated as the heavy internal bleeding at the back of the head which was severely damaged[33] The reason of falling was never established and several theories circulated in the media during that time including, falling under influence of alcohol, push by someone, and involvement of her husband and underworld mafia.[34][35][36][9] The investigation was closed in 1998 by Mumbai police and reason of death was stated as accidental death.[10] She was cremated on 7 April 1993 at the Vile Parle crematorium, Mumbai.[33][37]
Two of Bharti's completed films Rang and Shatranj were released several months after her death. She had completed more than half of Laadla when she died. Later Sridevi was recast in her role. She was replaced in several other films she had signed such as Mohra, Kartavya, Vijaypath and Andolan.[38][39][40] Her incomplete Telugu film Tholi Muddhu was partly completed by Indian actress Rambha, who slightly resembled Bharti and hence completed a few scenes of the movie for her.[41] Two movies which she had signed were subsequently shelved, Parinaam with Akshay Kumar[42] and Chaal Pe Chaal with Jackie Shroff.[43]

Hi Starlets! This tribute is to my favorite Bollywood star Divya Bharti. Divya was born on February 25th,1974 to her parents Meeta Bharti and Om Prakash Bharti. Divya spoke Hindi, Marathi and English fluently, Divya was known for her bubbly personality and love of life, also for her doll-like features. Divya would face a tragic fate when she fell off the balcony of her five-story tulsi apartment building and then died not long after. Divya's death remains unsolved to this day as when the Mumbai police searched for evidence they were unable to find any and her case was closed in 1998 and labeled as accidental but the fact that they found nothing and the cause is unknown is a little sketchy to me so the likely hood of it being a suicide seems highly unlikely considering her personality so to me it had to be either a murder or accident but regardless Divya remains one of the greatest actresses of her time and always will.

Om Prakash - Biography
Om Prakash (19 December 1919 – 21 February 1998) was an Indian bollywood actor. Starting his career in 1942, he was a popular supporting actor from the 1950s until the 1980s. He was known for his comedy roles in films. Om Prakash played the leading man in films like Dus Lakh, Annadata and Charandas 'Sadhu aur Shaitan'. His roles in the films Dil Daulat Duniya, Chupke Chupke, Julie, Joroo Ka Ghulam, Aa Gale Lag Jaa, Pyar Kiye Jaa and Buddha Mil Gaya are considered to be among his best along with Daddu in Namak Halaal and De Silva in Zanjeer. His roles in Sharabi, Bharosa, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Mere Humdum Mere Dost, Loafar, Dil Tera Diwana, Sharaabi (1984) were also appreciated.

Divya Om Prakash Bharti (25 February 1974 – 5 April 1993) was an Indian film actress who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu films in the early 1990s. Divya began her career as an actress in Telugu films with the film Bobbili Raja in 1990. She progressed to Hindi films in 1992 with Vishwatma. Bharti went on to have commercial success with films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana that same year, for which she garnered a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Divya died on 5 April 1993 at the age of 19 after falling from the balcony of her 5th storey apartment in Versova.The cause of her death was never been officially confirmed but media speculated that it was either murder, accidental death or suicide. The circumstances of her death still remains a mystery.

Divya Om Prakash Bharti (February 25, 1974 – April 5, 1993) was an Indian film actress, who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu language films in the early 1990s. Through her successful film career, she had established herself as one of the most popular film actresses in India. Bharti started to get offers in films as early as 14 years of age, and after several unsuccessful attempts, she made her debut with a lead role in the successful Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990), aged 16. Hi Starlets! This tribute is to my favorite Bollywood star Divya Bharti. Divya was born on February 25th,1974 to her parents Meeta Bharti and Om Prakash Bharti. Divya spoke Hindi, Marathi and English fluently, Divya was known for her bubbly personality and love of life, also for her doll-like features. Divya Om Prakash Bharti (February 25, 1974 – April 5, 1993) was an Indian film actress, who starred in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu language films in the early 1990s. Through her successful film career, she had established herself as one of the most popular film actresses in India.
Bharti started to get offers in films as early as 14 years of age, and after several unsuccessful attempts, she made her debut with a lead role in the successful Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990), aged 16. After starring in a number of high-grossing Telugu films, she went on to Bollywood films in 1992 with the action thriller Vishwatma. Bharti further went on to have commercial success alongside actors such as Govinda and Rishi Kapoor in films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana, respectively; the latter of which garnered her a Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year.[1] Bharti acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and early 1993 which is to date an unbroken record for a newcomer in Bollywood.[2]

Bharti was born in Mumbai, India, to Om Prakash Bharti, an insurance officer, and his wife, Meeta Bharti.[7] She had a younger brother named Kunal and two half-siblings who were the children of Bharti's father first marriage.[8] She spoke Hindi, English, and Marathi fluently. In her early years, Bharti was known for her bubbly personality[9] and for her doll-like looks.[10] Actress Kainaat Arora is her second cousin.[11]
Bharti studied at Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai. She was an average student and completed 9th standard before pursuing an acting career.[12]
Career[edit]
1988 – 1990: Early work[edit]
In 1988, Bharti was discovered by filmmaker Nandu Tolani. Upon seeing her, Tolani insisted on signing her for one of his films. At that time, Bharti was in the ninth standard (in ninth grade). She was originally scheduled to make her screen debut in Gunahon Ka Devta in 1988, but her role was cancelled.[13] Kirti Kumar noticed Bharti at a video library and thus was eager to sign her for his project Radha Ka Sangam opposite Govinda, as he was searching for a new face. Weeks later, Kumar met with Dilip Shankar and managed to release Bharti from her contract. After taking dancing and acting lessons for months to prepare for her role, Bharti was eventually dropped and replaced by Juhi Chawla.[13] Though the reasons remain unclear, it was speculated that Kumar's possessiveness over Bharti and her childish nature was the cause of her replacement.
Death and aftermath[edit]
On 5 April 1993, around 11 PM, Bharti fell off the balcony of her fifth floor apartment at the Tulsi buildings in Versova, Mumbai. After neighbours discovered her, she was rushed in an ambulance to the emergency department at Cooper Hospital where doctors failed to revive her. The immediate cause of death was stated as the heavy internal bleeding at the back of the head which was severely damaged[33] The reason of falling was never established and several theories circulated in the media during that time including, falling under influence of alcohol, push by someone, and involvement of her husband and underworld mafia.[34][35][36][9] The investigation was closed in 1998 by Mumbai police and reason of death was stated as accidental death.[10] She was cremated on 7 April 1993 at the Vile Parle crematorium, Mumbai.[33][37]
Two of Bharti's completed films Rang and Shatranj were released several months after her death. She had completed more than half of Laadla when she died. Later Sridevi was recast in her role. She was replaced in several other films she had signed such as Mohra, Kartavya, Vijaypath and Andolan.[38][39][40] Her incomplete Telugu film Tholi Muddhu was partly completed by Indian actress Rambha, who slightly resembled Bharti and hence completed a few scenes of the movie for her.[41] Two movies which she had signed were subsequently shelved, Parinaam with Akshay Kumar[42] and Chaal Pe Chaal with Jackie Shroff.[43]

Hi Starlets! This tribute is to my favorite Bollywood star Divya Bharti. Divya was born on February 25th,1974 to her parents Meeta Bharti and Om Prakash Bharti. Divya spoke Hindi, Marathi and English fluently, Divya was known for her bubbly personality and love of life, also for her doll-like features. Divya would face a tragic fate when she fell off the balcony of her five-story tulsi apartment building and then died not long after. Divya's death remains unsolved to this day as when the Mumbai police searched for evidence they were unable to find any and her case was closed in 1998 and labeled as accidental but the fact that they found nothing and the cause is unknown is a little sketchy to me so the likely hood of it being a suicide seems highly unlikely considering her personality so to me it had to be either a murder or accident but regardless Divya remains one of the greatest actresses of her time and always will.
