Hello and welcome to the
Sandvik Coromant web cast for
Silent Tools solutions for your milling and boring machines.
Dampened adapters with a standard facemill/shellmill mount on the front or tool side, and a Coromant Capto coupling on the back or spindle side, can be applied in long-reach milling operations. Through increased cutting data, productivity can be increased by as much as 500%.
Silent Tools solutions can yield tremendous benefits such as: improved surface finish, improved process security, modular adaptability for multiple reach lengths, flexibility to cover all materials and applications. The Coromant Capto coupling allows the user to adapt silent milling adapters to almost any machine interface, such as CAT-V
BIG Plus,
ISO and
HSK, with all stocked standard products.
Multiple length options allow the system to cover almost any overhang from 4 to 8 times diameter. See and hear the
difference.
Do the math. With a conventional 10-inch gauge-length tool assembly, 3 cubic inches per minute metal removal rates are expected, as is chatter. But the Silent Tools eliminates chatter, and doubles both the feed rate and the depth of cut. This translates to a 12 cubic inch per minute metal removal rate, and a 400% increase in productivity.
Internal coolant through the arbor increases coolant volume to the cutting zone by 40%, meaning: longer insert tool life, enhanced chip removal, predictable, consistent machining. Silent Tools can manage high-volume chip production, allowing double the material removal rates of conventional applications.
Imagine how much chip volume a typical long gauge line milling application would produce after 25 minutes of running. 25 minutes in cut, Silent Tools can generate 88 pounds of chips. A wide diameter range is available for standard Duobore roughing and CoroBore finishing tools. For larger diameters, engineered designs are available.
In this test case, the application involves a long tool assembly of 13 inches. With an undampened, ABS-style fine boring assembly, the cycle time for the finish boring totaled
220 minutes. With the Silent
Tool, the same application took 66 minutes.
