Washington is a town in the City of Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, England, and part of historic County Durham. Washington is located geographically at an equal distance from the centres of Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland, hence it has close ties to all three cities.

Washington was designated a new town in 1964; it expanded dramatically, by the creation of new villages and the absorption of areas of Chester-le-Street, to house overspill population from surrounding cities.

At the 2011 census, its urban subdivision (which contains the neighboring settlement of New Herrington) had a population of 67,085.

Name

Early references appear around 1096 in Old English as Wasindone. The etymological origin is disputed and there are several proposed theories for how the name "Washington" came about. Early interpretations included Wasindone (people of the hill by the stream, 1096), or Wassyngtona (settlement of Wassa's people, 1183).

Washington (footballer)

Washington Stecanela Cerqueira, or simply Washington (born April 1, 1975 in Brasília), is a retired association footballer who played striker.

Career

In Turkish league 2002–2003 season he scored 10 goals in 17 games and then he was released by Fenerbahçe because of his health problems.

Washington was submitted to a coronary catheterization. Once recovered, physicians told him that playing football would not represent a risk to his condition. Then he signed with Atlético Paranaense where he was 2004 Série A top-scorer with 34 goals and broke the league's record. For his recovery, he was dubbed Coração Valente, the title of the movie Braveheart in Brazil.

In 2005 he moved to Japan to play for Tokyo Verdy in the J. League Division 1. He had a successful season there with 22 goals in 33 games but could not save his club from relegation. In 2006 he transferred to Urawa Red Diamonds and helped the Reds win their first ever J. League Division 1 title, becoming the top scorer in the league with 26 goals in 26 games. In 2007, he became 2007 FIFA Club World Cup top scorer and his team finished in third place.

Washington Railroad Station

Washington Railroad Station, was located in Washington, New Jersey. The station was built in 1900 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 3, 1979. The station was demolished in 1982.

Sea (advertisement)

Sea is an advertising campaign launched by Diageo in 2007 to promote Smirnoff brand vodka. It centres on a 60-second commercial created by J. Walter Thompson, which premiered on 17 August 2007 in showings of The Bourne Ultimatum at select cinemas across the United Kingdom. Various tie-ins were launched, including the "Smirnoff Purifier", an online game, point of sale "Smirnoff purity kits", and a tour of a custom-built "Smirnoff Purification Installation" used to make potable samples of water taken from saline or otherwise undrinkable water at selected sites. In all, the campaign cost £5,000,000 to create, making it the largest campaign ever taken on by Diageo for its Smirnoff brand.

Commercial

Production of the sixty second commercial, developed by J. Walter Thompson, took place over seven months. The filming of the commercial took place over a period of several weeks in February 2007, primarily in the Coromandel Peninsula of New Zealand, with additional filming at the white cliffs of Dover and Auckland harbour. The director chosen to oversee the piece was Daniel Kleinman, known for his previous work on James Bond title sequences and adverts for Levi's and Durex.

Svensk exegetisk årsbok (Swedish Exegetical Yearbook) is an annual peer-reviewed academic journal of biblical studies and book reviews in Swedish and English. It was established in 1936 by the Swedish Exegetical Society and is distributed internationally by Eisenbrauns. The editors-in-chief are Stig Norin, Uppsala University and Samuel Byrskog, Lund University.

The Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (also called the Exchange Act, '34 Act, or 1934 Act) (Pub.L. 73–291, 48 Stat. 881, enacted June 6, 1934, codified at 15 U.S.C. § 78a et seq.) is a law governing the secondary trading of securities (stocks, bonds, and debentures) in the United States of America. A landmark of wide-ranging legislation, the Act of '34 and related statutes form the basis of regulation of the financial markets and their participants in the United States. The 1934 Act also established the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the agency primarily responsible for enforcement of United States federal securities law.

Companies raise billions of dollars by issuing securities in what is known as the primary market. Contrasted with the Securities Act of 1933, which regulates these original issues, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 regulates the secondary trading of those securities between persons often unrelated to the issuer, frequently through brokers or dealers. Trillions of dollars are made and lost each year through trading in the secondary market.
