A bait ball, or baitball, occurs when small fish swarm in a tightly packed spherical formation about a common centre. It is a last-ditch defensive measure adopted by small schooling fish when they are threatened by predators. Small schooling fish are eaten by many types of predators, and for this reason they are called bait fish or forage fish.
For example, sardines group together when they are threatened. This instinctual behaviour is a defense mechanism, as lone individuals are more likely to be eaten than large groups. Sardine bait balls can be 10–20 metres in diameter and extend to a depth of 10 metres. The bait balls are short-lived and seldom last longer than 10 minutes.
However, bait balls are also conspicuous, and when schooling fish form a bait ball they can draw the attention of many other predators. As a response to the defensive capabilities of schooling fish, some predators have developed sophisticated countermeasures. These countermeasures can be spectacularly successful, and can seriously undermine the defensive value of forming bait balls.
Bait may refer to:
A ball is a round, usually spherical but sometimes ovoid, object with various uses. It is used in ball games, where the play of the game follows the state of the ball as it is hit, kicked or thrown by players. In the context of sports, "ball" need not refer to a spherical object, as is the case in American football. Balls can also be used for simpler activities, such as catch, marbles and juggling. Balls made from hard-wearing materials are used in engineering applications to provide very low friction bearings, known as ball bearings. Black-powder weapons use stone and metal balls as projectiles.
Although many types of balls are today made from rubber, this form was unknown outside the Americas until after the voyages of Columbus. The Spanish were the first Europeans to see bouncing rubber balls (albeit solid and not inflated) which were employed most notably in the Mesoamerican ballgame. Balls used in various sports in other parts of the world prior to Columbus were made from other materials such as animal bladders or skins, stuffed with various materials.

Key West Kayak Fishing - Fly Fishing For Tuna/Mahi Mahi . My first attempt for going after Tuna/Mahi Mahi on the fly without using chummers. I've done it before on a boat, but used a well full of Pilchards to get them all riled up. This time the plan was to use the stealthiness of the kayak to swoop into the middle of a feeding frenzy bait ball and toss in a Tarpon Fly. It was a birdless, baitless day, but was mugged by a a huge school of Dolphin. Put a few in the box using hard baits, and then found a couple of straggler Tuna on the troll. Not being prepared made the whole ordeal a bit embarrassing, but it is what it was.

I am sure many of us that have taken up sea fishing have at some point float fished for Mackerel and other species such as Garfish and Pollack whether it is from harbour walls, deep shelving beaches, or rocky outcrops. No matter how experienced you become at sea fishing or how many species of fish you target the basic technique of float fishing for the humble Mackerel is for me still great fun and something I like to do a few times each summer and autumn when the Mackerel come close to shore to feed on bait fish. This video is one of those occasions with tips, pointers, and advice for those new to float fishing for Mackerel. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- View Other Mackerel Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlis...
Some people call me a bad apple
Well I may be bruised but I still taste sweet
Some people call me a bad apple
But I may be the sweetest apple on the tree
I've got the notion to tell you about my history, people
I've got the notion to tell you about how I came up in the world yeah
Now look...I used to go to school and act a clown and fool
And I used to chase the ladies all around
Gimme some
I used to spend my money and tried acting funny
Until I hit my nose on the ground
Some people call me a bad apple
Well I may be bruised but I still taste sweet
Some people call me a bad apple
But I may be the sweetest apple on the tree
Now my teacher tried to tell me
That I could never succeed in the world of business, yeah.
I said, "That's o.k. teacher.
Cause I never did want to give anybody the business. No."
But teacher listen
Teacher, teacher we got a message for you now
Goes like this teacher
Oh teacher
You egghead
You think you've got the world sewed up
You never did learn how to treat a man
You need to eat a slice of humble pie
And the longer you wait the worse it's gonna taste
Some people call me a bad apple
Well I may be bruised but I still taste sweet
Some people call me a bad apple
But I may be the sweetest apple on the tree
It's my time
Hey!
I want everybody to listen to me now
It's my time
Hey!
And I want everybody to listen to me now
Look listen to the record
I'll admit I have been lazy
And I've been called crazy
In my time I've played and played
But I can get down
And quit foolin' around
When the weather gets rough
Situation gets tough
Some people call me a bad apple
Well I may be bruised but I still taste sweet
Some people call me a bad apple
But I may be the sweetest apple on the tree
Some people call me a bad apple
Well I may be the sweetest apple on the tree
I may be the sweetest sweet apple on the tree
