NOIR, CHÉRI

A testament to my obsession with thoughtful experimental and avant-garde music. A repository for my radio shows of yore. A conglomerate of my brain juices and pulsating veins in the form of sound waves.

snard-vark asked:

Do you follow The Wire's top 50 albums of the year list? I started getting into experimental music because my boyfriend introduced me to the magazine and I'm just curious where you find such interesting music.

Hey there!
I don’t really follow publications that closely anymore. I used to work in radio as a music director, so I got exposed to a fair amount of interesting contemporary stuff (and a huge amount of dreck).
For the most part, I find things out of curiosity, research, and tangents upon tangents. There is also an amazingly solid record store called Wall of Sound here in Seattle. I frequently buy things that look interesting, even if I’m not familiar with them. I also have a handful of friends with impeccable taste. We’re constantly talking about music and sharing it.
I think my main point here is that I think physical mediums for music are crucial for discovery, as this can be a gateway (read the liner notes!) for other music that may not be talked about online (yet!).
Thanks for asking! ::)

IGOR WAKHEVITCH - “Hunahpuguch"

Really incredible avant-gardist from France. He studied under a number of influential experimental artists of the time, including Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Schaeffer, and Terry Reilly

His music is embedded with mysticism and spirituality, as illustrated by this quote from the liner notes on this record:

« A notre Mère Isis-Hathor, que son Amour Eclaire nos cœurs et Guide nos pas dans la Vérité, la Beauté, le Travail et la Perfection… A Toi Mère, a Toi Seigneur ! »

(“To our Mother Isis-Hathor, that her Love will Illuminate our hearts and Guide our steps toward Truth, Beauty, Work and Perfection… To You Mother, to You God!”) (my translation)

-Credit to CB for bringing this record home.

OFFICIALLY SPOILED
Look what my dude gave me for my birthday:
my three favorite Eno albums, all near-mint pressings, and a handmade, personalized version of Oblique Strategies.
This will never be topped.

monochromefemme asked:

great tumblr! did you buy the 'new' Radigue double LP?

Why thank you! Unfortunately I’ve been neglecting it severely as of late, so I am sort of wrought with guilt (jk kinda).

I haven’t bought that release yet because I have a sneaking suspicion that my dude got it for my birthday. I’ll keep you updated!

TRENTEMØLLER - “The Mash and the Fury”

Ooh baby.

Credit to Sam for reminding me of this album.

I had a big girl interview today, and basically I got all dolled up like a weirdo babe ‘50s secretary. C'mon living wage, let’s do this!
