Do you follow The Wire's top 50 albums of the year list? I started getting into experimental music because my boyfriend introduced me to the magazine and I'm just curious where you find such interesting music.
Hey there!
I don’t really follow publications that closely anymore. I used to work in radio as a music director, so I got exposed to a fair amount of interesting contemporary stuff (and a huge amount of dreck).
For the most part, I find things out of curiosity, research, and tangents upon tangents. There is also an amazingly solid record store called Wall of Sound here in Seattle. I frequently buy things that look interesting, even if I’m not familiar with them. I also have a handful of friends with impeccable taste. We’re constantly talking about music and sharing it.
I think my main point here is that I think physical mediums for music are crucial for discovery, as this can be a gateway (read the liner notes!) for other music that may not be talked about online (yet!).
Thanks for asking! ::)
great tumblr! did you buy the 'new' Radigue double LP?
Why thank you! Unfortunately I’ve been neglecting it severely as of late, so I am sort of wrought with guilt (jk kinda).
I haven’t bought that release yet because I have a sneaking suspicion that my dude got it for my birthday. I’ll keep you updated!
