This month, we delve into the visual arts. We're going to look at painter, photographers, installation artists, even a pop-up art shop. First up, we'll look at a recreation of a Brazilian favela at Queens College created by Brazilian artists with a help from Queens College students. Next we'll look at paintings by Susan Crile, whose work straddles the boundary between beauty and horror. We'll then look at Rodolfo Caballero's stunning photos of rural Mexico and the people who live and work there. We'll look at an exhibtion on view at the James Gallery, go down into the subway systems to look at the MTA arts for transit program, and look at a pop-up art event on the Lower East Side.

The visual arts are art forms that create works which are primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, and often modern visual arts (photography, video, and filmmaking) and architecture. These definitions should not be taken too strictly as many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Also included within the visual arts are the applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative art.
As indicated above, the current usage of the term "visual arts" includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts, but this was not always the case. Before the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and elsewhere at the turn of the 20th century, the term artist was often restricted to a person working in the fine arts (such as painting, sculpture, or printmaking) and not the handicraft, craft, or applied art media. The distinction was emphasized by artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement who valued vernacular art forms as much as high forms.Art schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts maintaining that a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of art.

For my last two years of high school, I was a participant in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. My decision to partake in the IB Program was by far one of the best decisions I've ever made, and part of what made my experience so positive was the opportunity I had to take this class. IB Visual Arts HL was one of the most challenging classes I had. It was technically demanding and time consuming. But it was the class I enjoyed the most. I used it as a gateway to study the pre-production aspects of film, and I loved every minute of it. Here is my final interview, with all my work. I hope you enjoy. I am so so sorry for the quality. It kills my eyes.

For my last two years of high school, I was a participant in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. My decision to partake in the IB Program was by far one of the best decisions I've ever made, and part of what made my experience so positive was the opportunity I had to take this class. IB Visual Arts HL was one of the most challenging classes I had. It was technically demanding and time consuming. But it was the class I enjoyed the most. I used it as a gateway to study the pre-production aspects of film, and I loved every minute of it. Here is my final interview, with all my work. I hope you enjoy.
