IUCN list shows no new extinctions – but they loom large

The list serves to prompt authorities to protect species under threat, such as the New Zealand sea lion (Richard Robinson/Cultura RM/Getty) ... Even so, evidence is growing that the world is entering another period of mass extinction ... For example, populations of the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) and the Guadalupe fur seal (Arctocephalus townsendi) are growing, even though the latter has been declared extinct in the past ... It was an inappropriate joke. Clearly it had no place in a football dressing room – one look at Andros Townsend’s face as he emerged from the Wembley tunnel for the second half of Tuesday’s game against Poland is enough to make that plain. On the footage shown on the Football Association’s website Townsend appears puzzled, and who can blame him ...Hey Smallingy – just get the f’ing ball to f’ing Townsendy, every f’ing time ... If only ... ....
