Jessica W. Noujeim, professional makeup artist for MUAHjwn Artistry, shows you how to achieve this QUICK & EASY sexy, scary, scaly reptile Halloween look with just a few simple steps and inexpensive products.
This basic tutorial is your starting point! You can add fake blood, make additional "ripped skin" scale areas on other places on your body, or try a red or black lip. Experiment and make this look your own!
** WE WANT TO SEE YOUR SCALES! TAG US ON INSTAGRAM WITH YOUR SEXY REPTILE FACES -- @MUAHjwnARTISTRY #MUAHJWN
-- SHOPPING LIST --
Liquid latex - cheaply available at most party/Halloween specialty stores
Tissue
Cream foundation
Setting powder
Black eyeliner/face paint
White or neon yellow cream makeup/face paint
Black eyeshadow
Green eyeshadows - emerald, lime green, and yellow-green
Purple lipliner
Purple lipstick
* Optional: colour contact lens - I used "Berzerk" from CoastalContacts.com, but a yellow reptile slit-eye might look more fitting for this costume!
-- STEPS --
1. Apply latex around the eye in desired shape
2. Layer ripped pieces of tissue over the latex until you achieve the desired texture
3. Pull up the inside edges of the latex/tissue to create a "raised skin" effect
4. Draw the reptile eye shape with black eyeliner and outline the inside of the latex layer
5. Fill in the entire eye area with different shades of green eyeshadows
6. Draw on your scale pattern with black liner or paint
7. Add a highlight to each scale with white or yellow
8. Blend in any areas you see fit with black and green shadows
9. Apply cream foundation over the exposed tissue to blend it into your skin
10. Set the foundation with a powder
11. Line lips and fill in with lipstick
Now... get creative! These techniques can be modified to suit your own personal style and costume. Play with colour, shape, and add whatever you like to make this look your own!
Happy Halloween!

"Reptile" skin is covered with "scutes" or ""scales"" which, along with many other characteristics, distinguish reptiles from animals of other classes. Scales are made of alpha and beta keratin and are formed from the epidermis . They may be ossified or tubercular, as in the case of lizards, or modified elaborately, as in the case of snakes.
Lizard scales vary in form from tubercular to platelike, or imbricate . These scales, which on the surface are composed of horny epidermis, may have bony plates underlying them; these plates are called "osteoderms". Lizard scales may differ strongly in form on different parts of the lizard and are often of use in taxonomically differentiating species.
Snakes are entirely covered with scales or scutes of various shapes and sizes. Scales protect the body of the snake, aid it in locomotion, allow moisture to be retained within and give simple or complex colouration patterns which help in camouflage and anti-predator display. In some snakes, scales have been modified over time to serve other functions such as 'eyelash' fringes, and protective covers for the eyes with the most distinctive modification being the "rattle" of the North American rattlesnakes. Snakes periodically moult their scaly skins and acquire new ones. This permits replacement of old worn out skin, disposal of parasites and is thought to allow the snake to grow. The shape and arrangement of scales is used to identify snake species.
The shape and number of scales on the head, back and belly are characteristic to family, genus and species. Scales have a nomenclature analogous to the position on the body. In "advanced" snakes, the broad belly scales and rows of dorsal scales correspond to the vertebrae, allowing scientists to count the vertebrae without dissection.

However, in this lecture, you will see that no two classes of vertebrates differ more dramatically than do reptiles and birds. Unlike the dinosaurs, from which birds are said to have evolved, birds are truly "formed to fly." With the aid of a scanning electron microscope, Dr. Menton examines the feathers of birds and compar

The Reptilian Aliens which are called Reptoids are proportional in size to modern humans. They have a snake like or lizard appearance. These are highly advanced entities but viewed as being of a negative, hostile or dangerous disposition since they regard humans as a totally inferior race. They would perceive us much the way we would perceive a herd of cattle. The information about these creatures varies from source to source. Supposedly they consider Earth their ancient outpost and want to have complete control over it because their planet is becoming unable to adequately support life.
The so-called "Reptilians", or "Reptoids", is noted that there is no implication in these descriptors other than of intelligent, communicative persons. What distinguishes these "Reptilian" extraterrestrials is their skin, which has small, fine scales, rather than smooth, their face, which has larger-than- human yellowish-green eyes with a "starburst"-shaped pupil, the eyes often oval, and an almost snout-like blunt process in the area of the nose and mouth, giving this type an almost dragon-like humanoid appearance.

Evolutionists have long argued that birds evolved by chance from reptiles. However, in this lecture, you will see that no two classes of vertebrates differ more dramatically than do reptiles and birds. Unlike the dinosaurs, from which birds are said to have evolved, birds are truly "formed to fly." With the aid of a scanning electron microscope, Dr. Menton examines the feathers of birds and compares them to reptile scales. Contrary to the claims of evolutionists, feathers are profoundly different from scales in every respect. It is biological nonsense to claim that one evolved from the other by chance.

Snakes are elongated, legless, carnivorous reptiles of the suborder Serpentes[2] that can be distinguished from legless lizards by their lack of eyelids and external ears. Like all squamates, snakes are ectothermic, amniote vertebrates covered in overlapping scales. Many species of snakes have skulls with several more joints than their lizard ancestors, enabling them to swallow prey much larger than their heads with their highly mobile jaws. To accommodate their narrow bodies, snakes' paired organs (such as kidneys) appear one in front of the other instead of side by side, and most have only one functional lung. Some species retain a pelvic girdle with a pair of vestigial claws on either side of the cloaca.

For over forty years Malaysia's forests supplied python skin to major Euro fashion brands in a trade worth billions of dollars. But that was before a 2004 EU ban forced Malaysia's snake hunters underground.
Pandian and his cousin Ganesan have been professional Python hunters for over 15 years, but they increasingly face a battle to make a living. "Before, we could catch ten a day", Pandian explains. "Now we just get one or two". Fears of extinction lead to the EU ban on Malaysian python skins. But it's proved ineffective and contraband skins still find their way to Europe. According to a CITES official, "they've simply re-routed the trade from Singapore". There might yet be alternatives to hunting and a few enterprising Malaysians have opened up pioneering farms to save both the trade and the wild species. But is it too little too late for the python?

Presenter: Erik Beever, USGS Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center
Summary: When performing hypothesis-driven research or monitoring over large spatial areas, how should one deal with the natural (clinal) variability that exists across those broad spatial extents? This presentation will cover approaches used to address questions regarding natural and anthropogenic disturbance, when working at broad scales. The presentation will span several ecosystem types and types of ecological disturbance, as well as diverse focal response variables (e.g., mammals, plants, soils, amphibians, reptiles). For example, when investigating the effects of a non-native grazer on reptiles across sites with different species pools (due to biogeography), how might one assess the effects of that grazer on reptile-community completeness? Such techniques will be critical to working at broad spatial scales, as embodied by the newly emerging Landscape Conservation Cooperatives and other broad-scale research and monitoring efforts (e.g., National Phenological Network, NEON, ARMI). Lively discussion welcomed.
