Pathogens Song
Here is a song I created to help my 6th grade students study. I hope you enjoy.
These are pathogens, can be in humans
All of these germs they can harm you
Bacteria's toxins, they can cause illness
Viruses need to live in you
Yeah a, a bacteria has no nucleus
Prokaryote it will be
They're spiral, rod-like, spherical
They come in three basic shapes
Can live in extreme environments

These are pathogens, can be in humans
All of these germs they can harm you
Bacteria's toxins, they can cause illness
Viruses need to live in you
Yeah a, a bacteria has no nucleus
Prokaryote it will be
They're spiral, rod-like, spherical
They come in three basic shapes
Can live in extreme environments
Archaebacteria is why
And if it everywhere else
Then it's from eubacteria
Asexual reproduction
Binary fission
But some will combine
Some with conjunction
They have basic needs
Food, energy, and survival techniques
These are pathogens, can be in humans
All of these germs they can harm you
Bacteria's toxins, they can cause illness
Viruses need to live in you
Bacteria many kinds do exist
Spherical, rod-like, and spiral shaped
Viruses invade cells then kill it
Without body defenses you'd be sick
Oh, viruses they are non-living
Invade reproduce in cells
And measured in nanometers
Because they are so very small
Can be round, brick-like, or bullet
Bacteriophage is complex
This robot-like virus infects
Bacteria, yes it will eat
Once virus is inside
Taking over cell
Cell will then produce
Virus' material
Active happens now
Hidden lies inside waits then comes alive
These are pathogens, can be in humans
All of these germs they can harm you
Bacteria's toxins, they can cause illness
Viruses need to live in you
Bacteria many kinds do exist
Spherical, rod-like, and spiral shaped
Viruses invade cells then kill it
Without body defenses you'd be sick
Now these are pathogens
Man, body defense
Skin be all wrappin' 'round your body
Germ barrier it's formin'
And then the nose, the germs are trapping
From the hair and mucus
Now when you see free, it's eyelids
Keeping the germs out of your eyes they're helping
Cleaning for your eyes they tear up
Or whatever you call it
Switch to the ears in the canal
Germs, the wax will grab it
Stomach killin' germs in food
The hydrochloric acid
Swish, in your mouth and in your throat
Tonsils and adenoids they be killin' em a lot
So we've talked 'bout who see at the top
But now we look inside to find the germ destroyers
Spleen fighting, white blood cells indoors
Moving through the blood killin' germs is what they're for
Monocytes on the hunt engulf and trap
Lymphocytes comin' from lymph nodes
These are pathogens, can be in humans
All of these germs they can harm you
Bacteria's toxins, they can cause illness
Viruses need to live in you
Bacteria many kinds do exist
Spherical, rod-like, and spiral shaped

Throughout the workday we touch many surfaces, some of which my be contaminated with bloodborne pathogens. Millions of workers every day are at risk from these contaminates.
Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms like viruses or bacteria that are carried in blood and can cause disease in people. Bloodborne pathogens are present in infected human blood and other body fluids. Some of these pathogens carry potentially fatal diseases like HIV, Ebola, malaria, syphilis and Hepatitis.
This short safety video explains bloodborne pathogens and how to protect yourself. Share it with your friends, family and co-workers.
You can be expose to a virus or bacteria in several ways, including, touching an infected person or their secretions, or by coming into contact with an object that has been infected by a contaminated person.
Body fluids, like tears, saliva, sputum, urine, feces, semen, pus, wound drainage and other secretions are common carriers of bloodborne pathogens. Some can live for only a minute outside the body, others can carry infection for much longer periods of time.
Good hand washing is the most effective method to prevent catching or spreading infections.
Protect yourself from bloodborne pathogens. Use appropriate disinfecting agents and use proper hand washing techniques!

Aspergillus is a common fungus that can be found in some indoor and outdoor environments. Aspergillosis is the name of the infection caused by Aspergillus. There are several different kinds of aspergillosis.
Blastomycosis is a disease caused by the fungus Blastomyces dermatitidis. The fungus lives in moist soil and in association with decomposing organic matter such as wood and leaves. The symptoms of blastomycosis are often similar to flu symptoms.
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida. There are over 20 species of Candida yeasts that can cause infection in humans, the most common of which is Candida albicans.
Coccidioidomycosis, also called Valley Fever, is an infection caused by the fungus Coccidioides, which lives in the soil of dry, low rainfall areas. It is endemic in many areas of the southwestern United States, Mexico, Central and South America.
Cryptococcosis is an infection caused by fungi that belong to the genus Cryptococcus. There are over 30 different species of Cryptococcus, but two species -- Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii cause nearly all cryptococcal infections in humans and animals.
Dermatophytes are fungi that cause skin, hair and nail infections. Infections caused by these fungi are also sometimes known as "ringworm" or "tinea." There are many different species of dermatophytes that can cause infection in humans. Two of the most common types are Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton tonsurans,
These are just a few things to know about fungal pathogens and Part 2 of this video series will discuss other common fungal pathogens.
