Michigan is a U.S. state located in the Great Lakes Region of the United States of America. The name Michigan is a French alteration of the Ojibwe word mishigamaa, meaning "large water."
It has the longest freshwater coastline of any political subdivision in the world, being bounded by four of the five Great Lakes. Michigan is one of the leading U.S. states for recreational boating. The state has 64,980 inland lakes and ponds. A person in the state is never more than six miles (10 km) from a natural water source or more than 85 miles (137 km) from a Great Lakes shoreline.
Michigan is the only state to consist entirely of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often noted to be shaped like a mitten. The Upper Peninsula (often referred to as "The U.P.") is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile (8 km)-wide channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The Upper Peninsula is economically important for tourism and natural resources.

Chicago, once a small trading post on Lake Michigan, has grown into one of the country’s most famous cities. Visit “The Windy City” and chow down on deep dish pizza for a truly unique vacation experience.
Follow “The Loop,” the city’s primary business district, and marvel at its array of high-rise buildings, consulates, and universities. Shopping and fine dining abound in this area. If you’ve worn yourself out in the city proper, set a more sedate pace at the Riverwalk, a pedestrian path along the Chicago River, or visit the many museums and parks the city has to offer. You’ll never believe you’re actually downtown when you walk through the Garfield Park Conservatory, and the Art Institute of Chicago will allow you to appreciate creative works from around the world.
No Chicago tour is complete without a mention of the nightlife, so close out your day at a jazz lounge and let the sweet sound of music carry you away. Visit our Chicago travel guide and plan your next vacation today.

With its pristine beaches and palm tree-lined streets, Miami is one of the top tourist destinations in the country.
Start your Miami tour out right with a sample of delicious Cuban cuisine, followed by some Latin dancing. You’ll find plenty of places all over the city to indulge in both, as well as art galleries, theaters, and numerous murals that contribute to Miami’s artistic spirit. Visit South Beach, or SoBe if you’re a local, and admire its Art Deco district, which is full of remarkable pre-World War II architecture.
Continue your Miami sightseeing at iconic Miami Beach, where the streets are lined with palm trees, exotic hotels, and eye-popping cars. Move on to the white sands of the beach itself and lay out in the sun, or try some more physical activities, like paddleboarding, biking, or in-line skating along the boardwalks.
No trip to Miami is complete without a visit to the Everglades and the nearby wildlife habitats, like the Jungle Zoo, where you can get up close and personal with a variety of living creatures. Don’t forget to say hello to the pink flamingos!

Chicago is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, and is the third most populous city in the United States, and the most populous city in the American Midwest. Chicago was incorporated as a city in 1837, near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed.
The most important places to visit in Chicago are: Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower, this iconic symbol of Chicago was the world's tallest building when it was built), Millennium Park (a great urban park, among the most famous landmarks of Chicago and a site for many major city events), Shedd Aquarium (one of the world's largest aquariums. It displays an impressive array of animals), Grant Park (called the front lawn of Chicago, the park is wonderfully landscaped and offers many sites for an urban escape), Navy Pier (situated right on Lake Michigan, the Pier has a festive atmosphere with entertainment, shops and restaurants) and many more.
If you want to save time and money, the most important Chicago travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. Whether you’re looking for arts, technology, or culture, a Dallas tour has a little bit of everything. Stroll through the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center to take in their creative works, followed by a trip up to the top of the Reunion Tower for a breathtaking view of the city.
If you have an affinity for living beings, you Dallas sightseeing must include the underwater passages of the Dallas World Aquarium. Don’t worry – it also has an entire section devoted to creatures of dry land, so make sure you check out the Jungle Walk. You can also scream your way through over 100 rides at Six Flags, or explore the history of the cowboy way at Pioneer Plaza.
A fine Texas day comes to an end with steak, dancing, and mingling with friendly locals who have hearts as big as the state itself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Michigan
..."West Michigan" often refers to the area bounded by the cities of Muskegon (in the north), Grand Rapids (in the northeast), Kalamazoo-Battle Creek (in the southeast) and St.Joseph-Benton Harbor (in the southwest). However, definitions of the boundaries of the region vary widely; in some contexts, the term "West Michigan" is applied only to the counties of Allegan, Kent, Muskegon, and Ottawa, which together compose the Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland SMSA. Other definitions include the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek and Benton Harbor-St. Joseph regions, which can be considered distinct regions or parts of other regions such as Michiana, Southern Michigan, or Southwest Michigan, in the case of Benton Harbor-St. Joseph.
The northern boundary of the region is also poorly defined; the population density, land use, economic and cultural character, and physical geography most often associated with West Michigan fades in northern Muskegon and Kent Counties, however areas as far north as Ludington and White Cloud may be included because of their close economic ties to the cities to the south. Other areas, such as Montcalm County in the northeast corner of the region, are transitional areas that straddle Michigan regions but are included for classification purposes. In the case of Montcalm County, the area around Greenville in the county's southwest corner is closely tied economically with Grand Rapids, while the area around Vestaburg and Edmore in the northeastern corner of county are more closely associated with the cities of Mount Pleasant and Alma, which are included in almost any definition of Central Michigan...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Michigan
Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. The other four Great Lakes are shared by the US and Canada. It is the second largest of the Great Lakes by volume and the third largest by surface area, after Lake Superior and Lake Huron (and is slightly smaller than the U.S. state of West Virginia). Hydrologically, the lake is a large bay of Lake Michigan-Huron, having the same surface elevation as Lake Huron (among other shared properties). It is bounded, from west to east, by the U.S. states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The word "Michigan" originally referred to the lake itself, and is believed to come from the Ojibwa word mishigami meaning "great water"...
Some of the earliest human inhabitants of the Lake Michigan region were the Hopewell Indians. Their culture declined after 800 AD, and for the next few hundred years the region was the home of peoples known as the Late Woodland Indians. In the early seventeenth century, when western European explorers made their first forays into the region, they encountered descendants of the Late Woodland Indians: the Chippewa, Menominee, Sauk, Fox, Winnebago, Miami, Ottawa, and Potawatomi. It is believed that the French explorer Jean Nicolet was the first non-Native American to reach Lake Michigan in 1634 or 1638.
With the advent of European exploration into the area in the late 17th century, Lake Michigan became part of a line of waterways leading from the Saint Lawrence River to the Mississippi River and thence to the Gulf of Mexico.[5] French coureurs des bois and voyageurs established small ports and trading communities, such as Green Bay, on the lake during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
The first person to reach the deep bottom of Lake Michigan was J. Val Klump, a scientist at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee. Klump reached the bottom via submersible as part of a 1985 research expedition...

Sometimes, people settle in to beliefs about the world, but most of the time, whether they admit it or not, their ideas are constantly evolving. During the past year, former pastor Ryan Bell has been examining his Christian worldview and exploring a world beyond belief, and he has learned a great deal about what it means to live in the space in-between belief and unbelief, certainty and doubt. What would it look like for each person to remain open to what the world has to teach?
For 19 years, Bell was a pastor, most recently the senior pastor of the Hollywood Seventh-day Adventist Church. In March 2013 he resigned due to theological and practical differences. As an adjunct professor he has taught subjects ranging from intercultural communication to bioethics. Currently he is a researcher, writer and speaker on the topic of religion and irreligion in America. In January, Ryan began a year-long journey exploring the limits of theism and the atheist landscape in the United States and blogs about that experience here at "Year Without God."
Bell received a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and a Doctor of Ministry in Missional Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena.
Recorded on November 16, 2014 at the Center For Inquiry in Los Angeles, California.

SPECIAL GUESTS: SENATOR MIKE BELL & FORMER CIA CHIEF JACK DEVINE
Rick goes ballistic on the establishment news media’s feeding frenzy inside the house of the two jihadists who murdered 14 Americans in California. Tennessee State Senator Mike Bell comments on the University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s political correctness absurdity by attempting to regulate campus Christmas parties. Later in the program, former Acting Director of the CIA Jack Devine talks with Rick about the war against ISIS.
Jack Devine is a founding partner and President of The Arkin Group LLC, which specializes in international crisis management, strategic intelligence, investigative research and business problem solving. He is a 32-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”). Mr. Devine served as both Acting Director and Associate Director of CIA’s operations outside the United States from 1993-1995, where he had supervisory authority over thousands of CIA employees involved in sensitive missions throughout the world. In addition, he served as Chief of the Latin American Division from 1992-1993 and was the principal manager of the CIA’s sensitive projects in Latin America.
Between 1990 and 1992, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Counternarcotics Center, which was responsible for coordinating and building close cooperation between all major U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies in tracking worldwide narcotics and crime organizations. From 1985-1987, Mr. Devine headed the CIA’s Afghan Task Force, which successfully countered Soviet aggression in the region. In 1987, he was awarded the CIA’s Meritorious Officer Award for this accomplishment.
Mr. Devine’s international experience with the U.S. government included postings to Latin America and Europe. During his more than 30 years with the CIA, Mr. Devine was involved in organizing, planning and executing countless sensitive projects in virtually all areas of intelligence, including analysis, operations, technology and management.
He is the recipient of the Agency’s Distinguished Intelligence Medal and several meritorious awards. He is a recognized expert in Intelligence matters and has written Op-Ed articles for The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, Foreign Affair Magazine, The World Policy Journal, Politico and The Atlantic Monthly. He has also made guest appearances on National Press Club, CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Fox News, CSPAN, Bloomberg News as well as the History and Discovery channels, PBS, NPR and ABC Radio.
In the private sector, Mr. Devine serves on Kohl’s Cyber Security Advisory Group as well as SAP National Security Services (NS2) Advisory Board. He previously served on the CyberCore Advisory Board and the Secretary of Navy’s Advisory Board. Mr. Devine resides in New York City and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He speaks Spanish and Italian.
Mr. Devine’s book, “Good Hunting! An American Spymaster’s Story”, a New York Times bestseller, was published in June 2014. It focuses on his Agency career and the role of Covert Action in the past and the future.

Organic electronics occupies a truly scalable world. Phenomena at the quantum level can provide solutions to applications as large as wall-mounted displays and lighting, to solar cells that cover the sides of buildings, to flexible electronic circuits that can mimic the eye and “see around corners”. Beyond the quantum, morphological control at the nano-scale, moving on to individual devices with micrometer and millimeter dimensions, to printing literally “kilometers” of circuits as if they were newsprint provides new and exciting challenges to the device physicist, applications engineer, and specialist in advanced manufacturing. In this talk, Stephen will discuss several important demonstrations of organic electronic devices that span this unprecedented range of dimensions. He will then consider what the future holds in this field that is rapidly emerging as a global industry.
About Stephen Forrest:
Professor Stephen Forrest received his B. A. Physics, 1972, University of California, MSc and PhD Physics in 1974 and 1979, University of Michigan. At Bell Labs, he investigated photodetectors for optical communications. In 1985, Prof. Forrest joined the Electrical Engineering and Materials Science Departments at USC where he worked on optoelectronic integrated circuits, and organic semiconductors. In 1992, Prof. Forrest became the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. He served as director of the National Center for Integrated Photonic Technology, and as Director of Princeton's Center for Photonics and Optoelectronic Materials (POEM), and from 1997-2001, he chaired Princeton’s Electrical Engineering Department. In 2006, he rejoined the University of Michigan as Vice President for Research, and is the Paul G. Goebel Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, and Physics.
