Previously Richard was Senior Vice President, Marketing, Media & Entertainment Worldwide, Mattel Brands, where he was responsible for Mattels renowned brands including the Barbie brands growth outside of the toy aisle and into new categories. During his eight-year tenure at Mattel, he has led with break-frame and headline-making successes in entertainment (including 13 No. 1 Barbie movies and a first-ever live stage show) online (today, Barbie-branded websites receive remain among the most popular girls sites) fashion (including co-branded initiatives with the worlds boldest face names Patricia Field, Anna Sui, Cynthia Rowley, Julien MacDonald, and Tarina Tarantino) beauty (marked by the unprecedented launch of Barbie Loves M•A•C, a co-branded makeup line in partnership with Estee Lauder Companies) and retail development (with 25+ high-end Barbie Couture stores in Asia, a wildly successful pop-up store in Japan and a Barbie flagship store in Argentina). Richards entrepreneurial spirit and outstanding leadership skills, coupled with his retail experience and track record of partnering with best-in-class names, resulted in top market share in several of Mattel Brands consumer products categories and continued business growth year after year, priming him for his new role as GM/SVP for the entire Barbie brand. Richards aggressive exploration of new categories and creative pursuit of partnerships have not gone unnoticed. He has been recognized by the industrys most respected consumer and trade associations for his break-frame brand extension strategies and unmatched success in transitioning Mattel Brands top toy brands into lifestyle properties. Among the honors, he was named one of the Top 10 Marketers of the Year by Brandweek Magazine and one of the Top 40 Licensing Leaders by Variety Magazine. Additionally, Richard regularly represents the Barbie brand in the media, including everything from appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show to CNBC. Prior to joining Mattel in 2000, Richard spent more than 15 years in the fashion and beauty industry working with top names in retail and design. Following a variety of positions at Bloomingdales ranging from apparel to cosmetics to kids, Richard was part of the founding team that launched Gloss.com, an e-commerce site for beauty products. In 1999, he was appointed vice president of brand management and merchandising for the Estee Lauder Companies online when the company acquired Gloss.com. Richard serves on the Board of Directors for the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, Mattel Childrens Foundation, the University of Maryland, and The Academy for Continuing Education in New York. Patricia Field is an American Academy Award-nominated costume designer, stylist and fashion designer. Field was born in New York City and raised in Astoria, Queens to Greek and Armenian parents, after they immigrated there from the island of Chios in Greece and Istanbul. she has claimed credit for inventing the modern legging for women's fashion in the 1970's. She is the owner of Patricia Field, a boutique located at 302 Bowery in Manhattan.
