Troyal Garth Brooks (born February 7, 1962), best known as Garth Brooks, is an American country pop singer-songwriter. His eponymous first album was released in 1989 and peaked at number 2 in the US country album chart while climbing to number 13 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Brooks' integration of rock elements into his recordings and live performances earned him immense popularity. This progressive approach allowed him to dominate the country single and album charts while crossing over into the mainstream pop arena.
Brooks broke records for both sales and concert attendance throughout the 1990s. As of 2013, his recordings continue to sell well and, according to Nielsen Soundscan, his albums sales up to May 2013 are 68,630,000, which makes him the best-selling albums artist in the United States in the SoundScan era (since 1991), a title held since 1991, well over 5 million ahead of his nearest rival, the Beatles. According to RIAA he is the second best-selling solo albums artist in the United States of all time ahead of Elvis Presley (second to the Beatles) with 135 million units sold. Brooks is one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 160 million records.
The Battle of Belleau Wood (1–26 June 1918) occurred during the German 1918 Spring Offensive in World War I, near the Marne River in France. The battle was fought between the U.S. Second (under the command of Major General Omar Bundy) and Third divisions along with French and British forces against an assortment of German units including elements from the 237th, 10th, 197th, 87th, and 28th divisions. The battle has become a key component of the lore of the United States Marine Corps.
In March 1918, with nearly 50 additional divisions freed by the Russian surrender on the Eastern Front, the German Army launched a series of attacks on the Western Front, hoping to defeat the Allies before U.S. forces could be fully deployed. A third offensive launched in May against the French between Soissons and Reims, known as the Third Battle of the Aisne, saw the Germans reach the north bank of the Marne River at Château-Thierry, 95 kilometres (59 mi) from Paris, on 27 May. On 31 May, the 3rd Division held the German advance at Château-Thierry and the German advance turned right towards Vaux and Belleau Wood.
Wood is a porous and fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plants.
It has been used for thousands of years for both fuel and as a construction material. It is an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists compression. Wood is sometimes defined as only the secondary xylem in the stems of trees, or it is defined more broadly to include the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in the roots of trees or shrubs. In a living tree it performs a support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand up by themselves. It also conveys water and nutrients between the leaves, other growing tissues, and the roots. Wood may also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered from wood, or wood chips or fiber.
The Earth contains about 434 billion cubic meters of growing stock forest, 47% of which is commercial. As an abundant, carbon-neutral renewable resource, woody materials have been of intense interest as a source of renewable energy. In 1991, approximately 3.5 cubic kilometers of wood were harvested. Dominant uses were for furniture and building construction.
Generally, a battle is a combat in warfare between two or more parties.

In the face of massive casualties and five failed attempts to take the real estate, the tenacious Marines were finally successful on a sixth attempt. While the narrator leaves out not only the Devil Dog reference and fact that the French renamed the area the "Wood of the Marine Brigade" but General Pershing's legendary reference: "The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle!". On June 6, 1944, over 160,000 allied troops landed on Normandy in what was the largest amphibious invasion of all time. D-Day, as it later became known, marked the turning point of World War II. But, the 6th of June marked the turnaround of another, sometimes forgotten war. Sgt. Todd Hunter explains.

While serving on USS Belleau Wood LHA-3, this video journal shows liberty in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Protest, ST. Johns Cathedral, Hard-Rock Cafe and the Saikai American Festival - Sasebo Japan. Nimitz park is where the festival was located. WARNING!! some bad language, drinking, and horrible jokes! All good! The video not edited and at times I sound very silly because the video was for my parents. They kept the video for years. Special thanks goes out to the old woman who helped me with my 1995 selfie. Today, I decided to upload this video to share with my shipmates. Proud we protect America, and Japan. Happy Veterans-day! BATTLE OF THE BANDS!!! Enjoy!!

ASP's Blog: (http://autoshowcaseproject.blogspot.com/) ASP PRESENTS: US Marines Uniforms, Weapons, and Equipment Pre-World War 1 and World War 1. Like the US Army, the Marines uniform, weapons, and equipment evolved during the early years of the 1900s. During WW1, the US Military feared gas attacks from the Axis Powers. Many soldiers and Marines were issued gas masks that were intended for work use in mines. In addition, the war also developed the use of blunt weapon objects that both the Allies and Axis used against each other. The weapons displayed are the Springfield 1903 rifle in .30-06, American Enfield rifle in .30-06, 1911 handgun in .45 caliber ACP, 1897 Winchester shotgun in 12 gauge, and the Colt 1901 in .38 caliber. Oh, the snowflakes fell in silence
Over Belleau Wood that night
For a Christmas truce had been declared
By both sides of the fight
As we lay there in our trenches
The silence broke in two
By a German soldier singing
A song that we all knew
Though I did not know the language
The song was "Silent Night"
Then I heard my buddy whisper,
"All is calm and all is bright"
Then the fear and doubt surrounded me
For I'd die if I was wrong
But I stood up in my trench
And I began to sing along
Then across the frozen battlefield
Another's voice joined in
Until one by one each man became
A singer of the hymn
Then I thought that I was dreaming
For right there in my sight
Stood the German soldier
'Neath the falling flakes of white
And he raised his hand and smiled at me
As if he seemed to say
Here's hoping we both live
To see us find a better way
Then the devil's clock struck midnight
And the skies lit up again
And the battlefield where heaven stood
Was blown to hell again
But for just one fleeting moment
The answer seemed so clear
Heaven's not beyond the clouds
It's just beyond the fear
No, heaven's not beyond the clouds
