Toy Machine

Toy Machine is a skateboarding company, housed under the Tum Yeto distribution company, started by Ed Templeton in 1993.

History

Prior to inception, Templeton was unable to decide on either "Toy Skateboards" or "Machine Skateboards" for a company name—friend and fellow professional skateboarder Ethan Fowler suggested a combination of the two propositions.

Some of the skateboarders who joined the company during its early period were Brian Anderson, Elissa Steamer, and Brad Staba; however, all three quit the company at the same time. Austin Stephens then joined the team, followed by Caswell Berry, Diego Bucchieri, and Josh Harmony.

Stephens, the longest-serving team member aside from Templeton, retired from professional skateboarding in December 2013. The company released a tribute skateboard deck to commemorate Stephens's career and Templeton officially stated:

Ed Templeton

Edward "Ed" Templeton (born July 28, 1972) is a professional skateboarder, skateboard company owner, and contemporary artist who, as of 2012, resides in Huntington Beach, California, United States (US).

Templeton is best known for founding the skateboard company, Toy Machine, a company that, as of January 2013, he continues to own and manage.

Early life

Templeton was born in Orange County, California, US, and began skateboarding in 1985, in his home town of Huntington Beach, with friend, Jason Lee. In a 2012 interview, Templeton explained the commencement of his fascination with skateboarding:

Professional skateboarding

Templeton was assigned professional status by New Deal Skateboards in 1990, a company that he left in 1992 to initiate the short-lived companies, "TV" and "Television" (both with professional skateboarder, Mike Vallely).

Toy Machine

Following the demise of both TV and Television, Templeton founded—and, as of January 2013, is the sole owner of the company—Toy Machine in 1994, after skateboarding entrepreneur, Tod Swank, agreed to support the idea. As of January 2013, Toy Machine is distributed by Swank's Tum Yeto company—Tum Yeto also distributes the Dekline skate shoe brand, the Pig skate wheel brand, the Ruckus skate truck brand, and the Foundation skateboard deck brand.

The first My Little Pony series began in 1984 with two pilot episodes: "Rescue from Midnight Castle" and "Escape from Catrina". The popularity of the specials gave way to the 1986 animated series which first aired from September 15, 1986 to September 23, 1987 with 27 episodes. A feature-length movie titled My Little Pony: The Movie was also released in June 13, 1986 before the series was created. Unicorn Ponies each possess a unique magical ability, in addition to the power to teleport by 'winking in and out' although not all of them were seen using it.

Pegasus Ponies

Pegasus Ponies can fly using their featured wings. However they usually fly only when it's necessary. All of the Pegasus Ponies except North Star, Surprise, Locket, Twilight and babies (excluding Baby Lofty) have cameos in 'Baby, It's Cold Outside'.

Machine

A machine is a tool containing one or more parts that uses energy to perform an intended action. Machines are usually powered by mechanical, chemical, thermal, or electrical means, and are often motorized. Historically, a power tool also required moving parts to classify as a machine. However, the advent of electronics has led to the development of power tools without moving parts that are considered machines.

A simple machine is a device that simply transforms the direction or magnitude of a force, but a large number of more complex machines exist. Examples include vehicles, electronic systems, molecular machines, computers, television, and radio.

Etymology

The word machine derives from the Latin word machina, which in turn derives from the Greek (Doric μαχανά makhana, Ionic μηχανή mekhane "contrivance, machine, engine", a derivation from μῆχος mekhos "means, expedient, remedy").

A wider meaning of "fabric, structure" is found in classical Latin, but not in Greek usage.

This meaning is found in late medieval French, and is adopted from the French into English in the mid-16th century.
