Plot: Dominated by her possessive mother and her bullying consort, Conroy, since childhood, teen-aged Victoria refuses to allow them the power of acting as her regent in the last days of her uncle, William IV's rule. Her German cousin Albert is encouraged to court her for solely political motives but, following her accession at age eighteen, finds he is falling for her and is dismayed at her reliance on trusty Prime Minister Melbourne. Victoria is impressed by Albert's philanthropy which is akin to her own desire to help her subjects. However her loyalty to Melbourne, perceived as a self-seeker, almost causes a constitutional crisis and it is Albert who helps restore her self-confidence. She proposes and they marry, Albert proving himself not only a devoted spouse, prepared to take an assassin's bullet for her, but an agent of much-needed reform, finally endorsed by an admiring Melbourne.

Quotes:
Princess Victoria: Do you ever feel like a chess piece yourself? In a game being played against your will.::Prince Albert: Do you?::Princess Victoria: Constantly. I see them leaning in and moving me around the board.::Prince Albert: The Duchess and Sir John?::Princess Victoria: Not just them. Uncle Leopold. The king. I'm sure half the politicians are ready to seize hold of my skirts and drag me from square to square.::Prince Albert: Then you had better master the rules of the game until you play it better than they can.::Princess Victoria: You don't recommend I find a husband to play it for me?::Prince Albert: I should find one to play it with you, not for you.
Duchess of Sutherland: Look at that demure little head. And all of us wondering what's inside it.::Lord Melbourne: We'll find out soon enough.
Princess Victoria: [to her mother] Oh, and if you think that I will ever forget that you stood by silent and watched him treat me thus, you are dreaming!
Queen Victoria: [to the Council] I am young, but I am willing to learn, and I mean to devote my life to the service of my country and my people. I look for your help in this. I know I shall not be disappointed. Thank you.
Sir Robert Peel: She starts on your watch, Lord Melbourne. Guard her well and keep her safe from harm.
Prince Albert: [accepting his letter from Victoria] As a matter of interest, will a time come when I read them first?::Baron Stockmar: You'll enjoy this. She has a real flair for description.
Queen Adelaide: You'll have to decide on a husband soon. What about Leopold's candidate?::Queen Victoria: I can't marry the man they want me to marry.::Queen Adelaide: Every suitor will come with strings attached.::Queen Victoria: Can't I be my own mistress for a while, haven't I earnt it? Dear Lord M, he's so very kind, I couldn't have asked for a better tutor.::Queen Adelaide: You may dream of independence, but you won't get it. From now on, everyone will push and pull you for their own advantage, Melbourne more than the rest. Just remember, you are the queen. He's a politician. And politicians, whatever their creed, always resent the monarchy. They pass through, you stay. So just keep dear Lord M in his proper sphere.::Queen Victoria: He's already chosen the new household.
Prince Albert: I'm going back to England.::Baron Stockmar: There must be a reason if you wish to visit Her Majesty.::Prince Albert: Then find me a reason.
Queen Victoria: I do want to help them, whatever you say. And not just the laboring poor, but the hungry and the homeless, and... There are people who are lost, and whose business is it to see to their welfare?::Lord Melbourne: Well, in my experience, ma'am, it's best to let these things develop naturally. If you interfere, you risk overturning the cart.::Queen Victoria: Well, Prince Albert doesn't agree. He's made a study of the working man's condition, he's full to the brim with ideas for their improvement.::Lord Melbourne: Is he indeed? How inspiring.
Queen Adelaide: You are confusing stubbornness with strength, my dear. And I warn you, the people will not like you for it.

Lord Robert: Remember who you are. Do not be afraid of them.
Sussex: Princess Elizabeth. You are accused of conspiring with Sir Thomas Wyatt and others against Her Sovereign Majesty, and are arrested for treason. I have been commanded to take you hence from this place... to the Tower.
[Offering Elizabeth his coat before putting her in the tower]::Arundel: Madam, you are cold.::Elizabeth: I do not need your pity.::Arundel: Accept it, then, for my sake.::Elizabeth: Thank you. I shall not forget this kindness.
Queen Mary: Why will you not confess your crimes against me?::Elizabeth: Because, Your Majesty, I have committed none.::Queen Mary: You speak with such sincerity. I see you are still a consummate actress. My husband is gone. They have poisoned my child. They say it is a tumor.::[Moans in pain]::Elizabeth: Madam, you are not well.::Queen Mary: They say this cancer will make you queen, but they are wrong. Look there, it is your death warrant. All I need do is sign it.::Elizabeth: Mary, if you sign that paper you will be murdering your own sister.
Queen Mary: When I look at you I see nothing of the king, only that whore, your mother. My father never did anything so well as to cut off her head.::Elizabeth: Your Majesty forgets he was also my father.
Sir Francis Walsingham: All Norfolk need do is sign this paper and treason will have been committed.::Elizabeth: Then let him sign it, and let it all be done.
Elizabeth: I have rid England of her enemies. What do I do now? Am I to be made of stone? Must I be touched by nothing?
Elizabeth: Aye, but marry who, Your Grace? Would you give me some suggestion? For some say France and others Spain, and some cannot abide foreigners at all. So I am not sure how best to please you unless I married one of each.::[laughter]::Noble: Now Your Majesty does make fun of the sanctity of marriage.::Elizabeth: I do not think *you* should lecture me on that, my lord, since you yourself have been *twice divorced*... and are now upon your third wife!::[laughter]
Elizabeth: This is the Lord's doing. And it is marvelous in our eyes.
Elizabeth: When I am queen, I promise... to act as my conscience dictates.::Queen Mary: Well do not think to be queen at all!

Plot: The story takes place in 16th century England. But men like Sir Thomas More, who love life yet have the moral fiber to lay down their lives for their principles, are found in every century. Concentrating on the last seven years of English chancellor's life, the struggle between More and his King, Henry VIII, hinges on Henry's determination to break with Rome so he can divorce his current wife and wed again, and good Catholic More's inability to go along with such heresy. More resigns as chancellor, hoping to be able to live out his life as a private citizen. But Henry will settle for nothing less than that the much respected More give public approval to his headstrong course.

Quotes:
King Henry VIII: Thomas. I chose the right man for chancellor!::Sir Thomas More: I should in fairness add that my taste in music is reputedly deplorable.::King Henry VIII: Your taste in music is excellent. It exactly coincides with my own!
The Duke of Norfolk: Oh confound all this. I'm not a scholar, I don't know whether the marriage was lawful or not but dammit, Thomas, look at these names! Why can't you do as I did and come with us, for fellowship!::Sir Thomas More: And when we die, and you are sent to heaven for doing your conscience, and I am sent to hell for not doing mine, will you come with me, for fellowship?
King Henry VIII: [shouting angrily] I have no queen! Catherine's not my wife! No priest can make her so! They that say she is my wife are not only liars, but traitors! Yes, traitors that I will not brook now! Treachery... treachery... treachery I will not brook! It maddens me! It is a deadly canker in the body politic, and I will have it out!
Richard Rich: I would be faithful.::Sir Thomas More: Richard, you couldn't answer for yourself even so far as tonight.
The Duke of Norfolk: The nobility of England...::Sir Thomas More: The nobility of England, My Lord, would have snored through the Sermon on the Mount, but you'll labor like scholars over a bulldog's pedigree.
The Duke of Norfolk: Your life lies in your own hands, Thomas, as it always has.::Sir Thomas More: Is that so, My Lord? Then I'll keep a good grip on it.
Sir Thomas More: [to the Chief Justice] Death comes for us all, My Lord... even for kings.
Cromwell: Now, Sir Thomas, you stand on your silence.::Sir Thomas More: I do.::Cromwell: But, gentlemen of the jury, there are many kinds of silence. Consider first the silence of a man who is dead. Let us suppose we go into the room where he is laid out, and we listen: what do we hear? Silence. What does it betoken, this silence? Nothing; this is silence pure and simple. But let us take another case. Suppose I were to take a dagger from my sleeve and make to kill the prisoner with it; and my lordships there, instead of crying out for me to stop, maintained their silence. That would betoken! It would betoken a willingness that I should do it, and under the law, they will be guilty with me. So silence can, according to the circumstances, speak! Let us consider now the circumstances of the prisoner's silence. The oath was put to loyal subjects up and down the country, and they all declared His Grace's title to be just and good. But when it came to the prisoner, he refused! He calls this silence. Yet is there a man in this court - is there a man in this country! - who does not know Sir Thomas More's opinion of this title?::Crowd in court gallery: No!::Cromwell: Yet how can this be? Because this silence betokened, nay, this silence was, not silence at all, but most eloquent denial!::Sir Thomas More: Not so. Not so, Master Secretary. The maxim is "Qui tacet consentire": the maxim of the law is "Silence gives consent". If therefore you wish to construe what my silence betokened, you must construe that I consented, not that I denied.::Cromwell: Is that in fact what the world construes from it? Do you pretend that is what you wish the world to construe from it?::Sir Thomas More: The world must construe according to its wits; this court must construe according to the law.
Cromwell: I know a man who wants to change his woman.
Margaret More: Father, that man's bad.::Sir Thomas More: There's no law against that.::William Roper: There is: God's law.::Sir Thomas More: Then God can arrest him.

Quotes:
[Henry's fourth wedding night]::King Henry VIII: My wife? Huh... not yet.::Anne of Cleves: Poor mother told me... first he says the marriage is no good, and then he cuts off the head with an ax chopper!::King Henry VIII: That is an exaggeration, madam.::Anne of Cleves: Then why do you say I am not yet your wife?::King Henry VIII: Well, madam, uh, a marriage ceremony doesn't make us one.::Anne of Cleves: Mmm?::[shows her ring]::King Henry VIII: Oh, yes, yes, yes, 's all right, but you, uh, have to, umm, I have to...::Anne of Cleves: What?::King Henry VIII: Did your mother not talk to you about...::Anne of Cleves: What?::King Henry VIII: Oh Lord. Ohhhh, well, uh, madam, all that stuff about children being found under gooseberry bushes... that's not true...
Katherine Howard: Who's there?::King Henry VIII: Henry.::Katherine Howard: Henry who?::King Henry VIII: The King.::Katherine Howard: Oh, the King, not the man.::King Henry VIII: Unlock the door.::Katherine Howard: Isn't it rather late for a maid to unlock her door to a... man?::King Henry VIII: On, come on, unlock the door.::Katherine Howard: Is that a command?::King Henry VIII: Yes.::Katherine Howard: To the King, then, not the man.::[lets him in and kneels]::King Henry VIII: Don't do that. I'm leaving me crown outside.::Katherine Howard: You've left it outside with my reputation, sire.::King Henry VIII: No one saw me, Katherine, I swear. Can't you forget the King and forget the crown, forget everything... you told me once I was a man, uh? What do you say if I'm not the King?::Katherine Howard: Get out of my room!::King Henry VIII: What? Whyyy...::Katherine Howard: That's what I *would* say, if you were not the King. Since you are the King, I expect your command.::King Henry VIII: Command? It's a poor thing to command in love.::Katherine Howard: Love? Who is in love?::King Henry VIII: I am, with you.::Katherine Howard: Love eternal, since yesterday afternoon, until tomorrow morning?::King Henry VIII: When I say love, I mean love.
Thomas Culpeper: I never should have come, Kate. We can't go on like this.::Katherine Howard: I know, it's dreadful, seeing each other every day and never being alone together...::Thomas Culpeper: Oh, it's not that, it's... it's being torn in half between you and the King.::Katherine Howard: But, Tom, we belong to each other!::Thomas Culpeper: No. We belong to him.
[Henry's fourth wedding night]::King Henry VIII: [shouting] Ah, what am I, what am I going to do with you!::Anne of Cleves: Chop my head?::King Henry VIII: Probably.::Anne of Cleves: You daren't.::King Henry VIII: Why not?::Anne of Cleves: Because in Europe I will make such a scandal as you never heard. Not the first time you have chopped the head. Henry the wife-butcher, that's what they will call you!::King Henry VIII: I don't care what they say, I'm not going to live with you!::Anne of Cleves: Well, why don't you divorce me, like a gentleman?::King Henry VIII: You would consent to a divorce?::Anne of Cleves: I would consent to a divorce.::King Henry VIII: You are a very reasonable woman. What are your terms?
Anne Boleyn: Isn't it a pity to lose a head like this? Still, they will easily find a nickname for me: among the Queens of England, I shall be "Anne sans tête." That means "Anne who lost her head."
[At Anne Boleyn's execution]::Man: Well, one must admit, she died like a queen.::Woman: Yes. And that frock, wasn't it too divine?::Man: Was it? I didn't notice.::Woman: No, you wouldn't. You wouldn't notice that I haven't had a new gown for a year.::Man: All right, all right, you shall have one... for *your* execution!
Palace servant: Anne Boleyn dies this morning; Jane Seymour takes her place tonight. What luck!::Another servant: For which of them, I wonder?
Thomas Cromwell: Sire, we need more heirs.::King Henry VIII: I have given you three, two daughters and a son! I grant you, the daughters show little promise; Mary may grow to wisdom, but Elizabeth'll never learn to rule so much as a kitchen. Ah, but the boy is my second self.
King Henry VIII: Diplomacy? Diplomacy, my foot! I'm an Englishman - I can't say one thing and mean another. What I can do is to build ships, ships, and then more ships!::Thomas Cromwell: You mean, double the fleet?::King Henry VIII: Treble it! Fortify Dover! Rule the sea!::Thomas Cromwell: To do this will cost us money, sire.::King Henry VIII: To leave it undone will cost us England!
King Henry VIII: No, Thomas, not clever, thanks be to heaven. My first wife was clever, my second was ambitious, but my third... Thomas, if you want to be happy, marry a girl like my sweet little Jane. Marry a stupid woman! Ha ha ha...

MAINSTREAM NEWS MEDIA EXTRACTS:
The sensational Carroll Foundation Trust and parallel Carroll Maryland Trust multi-billion dollar tax fraud bribery scandal which is encircling the HSBC Holdings Plc disgraced former chairman of Sir John Bond has disclosed that the Withers Worldwide law firm has been named as a “central actor” in this case of international importance.
Sources have confirmed that the explosive FBI Scotland Yard “cross-border” criminal “standard of proof” prosecution files contain forensic specimen exhibits of a Withers shadow “criminal parallel trust which embezzled two hundred million dollars of the Carroll Foundation Trust’s huge treasury investment holdings that were held at the Queen’s bankers Coutts & Co and Barclays Bank City of London branches.
Further sources have revealed that the dossiers contain forensic specimen exhibits of fraudulently incorporated HSBC Fifth Avenue New York accounts which are “directly linked” to the fraudulent incorporation of Queen’s bankers Coutts & Co accounts Barclays International Gibraltar offshore accounts and HSBC International Cayman Islands offshore accounts that effectively impulsed this massive bank fraud heist which stretches the globe.
It has emerged that the Duke of Westminster’s lawyers Boodle Hatfield executed forged and falsified lease documentation of Gerald Carroll's Belgravia residence to effectively impulse the criminal seizure of the property and trigger the co-ordinated break-ins burglaries and theft of the world renowned Oxford University Carroll Institute archival records which are “centered around” one of the finest collections of Irish books and manuscripts in private ownership in the world.
Scotland Yard leaked sources have said that the FBI Scotland Yard criminal “standard of proof” prosecution files have stated that Mark Field MP for the Cities of London and Westminster attended meetings with Scotland Yard over a lengthy period of time whilst these major criminal offences were being targeted at Gerald Carroll’s residences. It is believed that voice transcripts of the Mark Field meetings with Scotland Yard have named the high value crime scene locations which include Alban Shipping secure storage facility Luton Bedfordshire Red Self Storage Dartford Kent and Five Oaks Lane Hainault Essex.
In a stunning twist it has emerged that Withers has represented the Carroll family for more than sixty years “centered around” the law firm’s two former senior partners respectively Sir Arthur Collins and David Dixon which has prompted well seasoned political observers in Washington DC to remark that the Gerald Carroll debacle has firmly highlighted the serious level of white collar organized crime penetration within the UK Government’s law enforcement inter-agencies who are charged with the prosecution of criminal bankers accountants and lawyers.
The Carroll Foundation Trust files are held within a complete lockdown at the FBI Washington DC field office and the Metropolitan Police Scotland Yard London under the supervision of the commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe who has an intimate knowledge of this case spanning a staggering sixteen years.
