Something of a musician, surfer, and troubadour all rolled into one, Tom Freund's musical acumen is as far and wide as both coasts he's lived on. This New York raised, California transplant, rose to notoriety following a chance introduction to fellow musician, Ben Harper while attending Claremont's Pitzer College in Southern California. Tom and Ben's musical chemistry exploded with the 1992 release of "Pleasure and Pain", and from that point on, Tom's mark in the music business was sealed. Tom toured as bassist for the Alt-Country group, The Silos, and soon after released his debut solo album, "North American Long Weekend" to widespread critical acclaim. "Two Moons" is Tom's seventh studio album, which boasts a true reflection of today's urbane mix of folk, rock, jazz, and roots music.

At the police station, Bo informed John and Brody that Allison had awoken from her coma and escaped Statesville Prison several weeks prior, and was likely on the loose in Llanview.
When the technician superimposed Allison's face onto Roxy's picture, the guard identified her as the woman who'd visited Mitch. The only question, John mused, was where Allison had gone since then.
At the Sun, Todd pressed Kelly for details on the mystery man who had details on Melinda's death. Kelly explained that Dorian believed Melinda's death was no accident, as her mother didn't have a heart condition. Kelly admitted she suspected Mitch, as well, but dismissed her phantom caller as a prank, and wondered if she was just being paranoid. She told Todd she hadn't informed Dorian about the call, and wasn't going to.
When Dorian visited the Sun, Kelly told her that she was staying in Llanview and had accepted a job at the Sun. . Dorian ordered Kelly to quit, but Kelly said she wouldn't; she wasn't going to be under Todd's thumb, or Dorian's.
Dorian accused Todd of having no interest in Kelly or her journalistic talent, and said he'd only hired her to stick it to Blair. Todd disagreed, and said Kelly was a talented asset who would elevate the paper.
In the Llanview High gymnasium, Jessica surprised Cristian with her request to join the musical stage crew. She asked Cristian to let her prove that she was moving on by working alongside him, and rekindling the platonic friendship they'd had before they began dating.
Just then, Brody arrived outside the gym, and was struck by the sight of Cristian and Jessica together. As he entered and greeted them, he asked to speak to Cristian alone. Taking Cris aside, Brody explained that Allison Perkins was on the loose, and he didn't want to alert Jessica and possibly jostle her fragile mental state. Instead, he asked Cristian to let her join the stage crew as a means of keeping a protective eye on her, while Brody and the police continued their search for Allison. Reluctantly, Cristian agreed.
Reentering the gym, Brody said his goodbyes, and told Jessica he'd call her about their date soon. After he walked out, Jessica asked Cristian what they'd been talking about, but Cristian covered, and told Jess she could join the crew after all. As Cristian and Jessica walked off together, Brody watched from the corridor with a heavy heart.
At the courthouse, Gigi stopped Rex from making a beeline for Schuyler's apartment. She didn't believe Schuyler would run off with Sierra Rose, and sympathized with the babysitter excuse Téa had given to the judge. Rex didn't buy it; he was sure Schuyler had another secret. Gigi insisted they give Schuyler the benefit of the doubt, but Rex didn't understand why she was being so decent to a man who wanted to take her niece away from her.
As they continued to argue, Kim sashayed in, dripping with jewels and swaddled in designer duds. She asked about the hearing, and Rex told her it was postponed. Kim said it was just as well, as Schuyler and Gigi's battle would amount to nothing, since Kim would be raising Sierra.
Soon, in the neighboring lobby, Kim found herself sitting and pondering an old photo of her and Stacy; speaking to the picture, she promised to raise Sierra Rose as her own, and keep the baby's true paternity a secret. Just then, Dorian breezed past, screaming orders into her cell phone. Noticing Kim, she stopped to offer her condolences for Stacy, and tossed in a compliment for what she was sure was a skillfully made knockoff purse. Kim told her it was no knockoff, and that Clint Buchanan wanted only the best for his bride. "You're married?" Dorian sputtered, and Kim triumphantly brandished her wedding ring.
At Schuyler's apartment, Téa was horrified to learn that Sierra Rose had been kidnapped. Schuyler feared that contacting the authorities would cause Allison to kill Sierra. As they waited for Allison to call with more instructions, Schuyler grew increasingly frightened for his "daughter." When Gigi arrived at the door, knocked, and called for Schuyler, both Téa and Schuyler scrambled to figure out what to do.
Back at the police station, Rex rushed to Bo and demanded tha the get Kim and his brother off Gigi's back.
At Foxy Roxy's, Allison hid behind her facial mask as Natalie discovered Sierra Rose in the salon and grew suspicious of Roxy having the baby with her. As Roxy struggled to think up an explanation, Allison crept toward the front door and locked it. As Natalie rushed over to the phone Bo, Allison pressed the pistol pressed against her back. Allison ordered Natalie to put the phone down. When Natalie turned, she asked the woman in the facial mask who she was. Allison wiped the lotion off to reveal herself.

American families saw their real incomes fall to an average of $70,700 in 2004, down 2.3 percent from 2001, according to a Federal Reserve survey of consumer finances released Thursday. Average net worth rose 6.3 percent during the same period to $448,200, buoyed by the often-dramatic appreciation of house values and the increased rate of homeownership. All figures in the Survey of Consumer Finances, which is released every three years, are adjusted for inflation. "This is a tremendously detailed, comprehensive look at the American family's balance sheet and it ain't pretty," said Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a liberal research group in Washington.
Bernstein pointed to the disparity between the economy's robust performance during the three-year period and the benefits -- or lack thereof -- reaped by wage earners. "Between 2001 and 2004, productivity was up almost 12 percent," he said. "That's supposed to mean a significant improvement in living standards, but in terms of net worth, you just don't see it."
Growth in income and net worth during the previous period measured by the consumer finance report, 1998-2001, was markedly stronger. From 1998 to 2001, average incomes grew 17.3 percent and median incomes grew 9.5 percent, while average net worth rose 28.7 percent and the median rose 10.3 percent.
Medians, or midpoints, for both net worth and income edged up sluggishly during the 2001-04 period. Median net worth rose 1.5 percent to $93,100 in 2004, while median income rose 1.6 percent to $43,200. "That's bupkis, as my grandma would have said," Bernstein said, referring to the small increase in median net worth. That's very disappointing growth, especially in an economy where productivity is up almost 12 percent. The increase in families' most valuable asset, their home, is evident in the report, but it hasn't done much to offset some of the headwinds pushing back against income growth, primarily weak wage performance and debt accumulation."
Wages, the biggest component of household income, declined more sharply than income. Median wages fell 6.2 percent; mean wages fell 3.6 percent. Families also took on more debt and saved less during the three years. Debt as a percentage of total assets rose from 12.1 percent in 2001 to 15 percent in 2004. While 59.2 percent of families were socking away savings in 2001, that was down to 56.1 percent of families in 2004. "If you experience a shock to your income, your savings fall," said Deborah Reed, an economist at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco. She noted that for families making close to the average income, a drop of a couple of thousand dollars prompts belt tightening that might work for the short term but become serious if the income dip is prolonged. "They're drawing down their savings, making different choices about lattes or whatever for a few years," she said. "That's OK, but if it lasts, then they can't continue to just spend down savings or save less. They have to make tougher choices: Do I need a new job, a second job, should I cut back on my expenses in a more serious way, take out a second mortgage on my house?"
For low-income families, the effects of stagnant or declining incomes are more severe. Families in the bottom 20th percentile had incomes that went from an average of $10,700 in 2001 to $10,800 in 2004. At the next tier up, the average income rose 1.5 percent, from $25,700 to $26,100. "For that group it's not a matter of saving less or drawing down a bank account because they often don't have savings or a bank account," Reed said. "It doesn't take a few years for tough choices to (have to) be made. It's more immediate. Is it another job, is it mom going back to work earlier than she might have, is it not having a car, is it sharing your house with a renter, or becoming a renter? There are a lot of tough choices." Reed said the 1980s were marked by a similar paradox of a growing economy and stagnant wages. "The economy is growing but the profits of that are not being shared with workers. They're going to the CEOs and the people owning stock," she said.

And I
"And I" is a song written by American R&B singer Ciara, and produced by Adonis Shropshire for Ciara's first album, Goodies (2004). It was released as the album's fourth and final single on August 30, 2005 (see 2005 in music) in North America.
The song was originally the third choice for the fourth single. Ciara has mentioned in an interview that "Thug Style", "Hotline" or "Pick up the Phone" would be the fourth single, but when Ciara suggested "And I" to executives at her previous record label LaFace, they were unhappy because they wanted "Next to You" to be the fourth single.
Chart performance
At the time of the U.S. release of "And I", Ciara's collaboration with Bow Wow, "Like You", and her collaboration with Missy Elliott, "Lose Control", were at the height of their popularity. "And I" peaked at 96 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and 27 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, which were poor positions compared to those attained by the first three singles from the album Goodies. It was not released outside North America because of this, and it is Ciara's least successful single.

Fire Emblem (ファイアーエムブレム, Faiā Emuburemu) is a tactical role-playing video game franchise developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. First produced and published for the Famicom, the series currently consists of fifteen games, including remakes, across multiple game systems. Described by its creators as an "RPG simulation", the gameplay revolves around tactical movement of characters across grid-based environments, while incorporating a story and characters similar to those in a more traditional role-playing video game. A noted aspect of gameplay is the permanent death of characters in battle, removing them from the rest of the game should they be defeated. The series title refers to a recurring object, often portrayed as a weapon or shield, representing the power of war and dragons, a recurring element in the series.
Development of the first game began as a dōjin project by Shouzou Kaga and three other developers. Its success prompted the development of further titles in the series. Kaga headed each one until the release of Thracia 776, when he left the company and founded his own game studio.

Tom Freund
Tom Freund is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Freund's music consists of elements of folk rock, americana and alternative rock. Freund met Ben Harper when he was attending Pitzer College in Claremont, California. In 1992 the duo released an album, Pleasure and Pain. Not long after, he joined the alternative country group The Silos as their bassist, and moved to Austin, Texas. He released his debut solo album, North American Long Weekend, in 1998 and has released albums on his own Surf Road Records since 2000. While releasing his own music, Tom has also contributed to albums by artists including Graham Parker, Mandy Moore, and Josh Kelley. Some of his work, including "Copper Moon", appeared on the TV program One Tree Hill, while other songs have appeared on Dawson's Creek and Parenthood.
Early life
Tom attended Horace Mann School, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and Greenwich High School. During high school, Tom was a member of the jazz ensemble as an upright bass player. He was also a member of the prestigious Tri-State McDonald's High School Jazz Ensemble, which landed him an audition with Elizabeth Swados. Swados was impressed by his musical talents and cast Tom in her 1987 production of Swing as a part of the Next Wave festival at BAM. In the production, Tom played guitar, upright bass and sang both a solo number and as a member of the ensemble. After graduating high school, Freund immediately became involved in the Off Broadway theater scene while taking classes at Columbia University. During this time, Tom was also playing clubs in New York City and doing some TV music work. In 1991, Tom enrolled at Pitzer College. Through a mutual friend, Freund met Ben Harper. The two formed a duo and in 1992 released a record on Cardas Records entitled Pleasure and Pain.

At the police station, Bo informed John and Brody that Allison had awoken from her coma and escaped Statesville Prison several weeks prior, and was likely on the loose in Llanview. When the technician superimposed Allison's face onto Roxy's picture, the guard identified her as the woman who'd visited Mitch. The only question, John mused, was where Allison had gone since then. At the Sun, Todd pressed Kelly for details on the mystery man who had details on Melinda's death. Kelly explained that Dorian believed Melinda's death was no accident, as her mother didn't have a heart condition. Kelly admitted she suspected Mitch, as well, but dismissed her phantom caller as a prank, and wondered if she was just being paranoid. She told Todd she hadn't informed Dorian about the call, and wasn't going to. When Dorian visited the Sun, Kelly told her that she was staying in Llanview and had accepted a job at the Sun. . Dorian ordered Kelly to quit, but Kelly said she wouldn't; she wasn't going to be under Todd's thumb, or Dorian's. Dorian accused Todd of having no interest in Kelly or her journalistic talent, and said he'd only hired her to stick it to Blair. Todd disagreed, and said Kelly was a talented asset who would elevate the paper. In the Llanview High gymnasium, Jessica surprised Cristian with her request to join the musical stage crew. She asked Cristian to let her prove that she was moving on by working alongside him, and rekindling the platonic friendship they'd had before they began dating. Just then, Brody arrived outside the gym, and was struck by the sight of Cristian and Jessica together. As he entered and greeted them, he asked to speak to Cristian alone. Taking Cris aside, Brody explained that Allison Perkins was on the loose, and he didn't want to alert Jessica and possibly jostle her fragile mental state. Instead, he asked Cristian to let her join the stage crew as a means of keeping a protective eye on her, while Brody and the police continued their search for Allison. Reluctantly, Cristian agreed. Reentering the gym, Brody said his goodbyes, and told Jessica he'd call her about their date soon. After he walked out, Jessica asked Cristian what they'd been talking about, but Cristian covered, and told Jess she could join the crew after all. As Cristian and Jessica walked off together, Brody watched from the corridor with a heavy heart. At the courthouse, Gigi stopped Rex from making a beeline for Schuyler's apartment. She didn't believe Schuyler would run off with Sierra Rose, and sympathized with the babysitter excuse Téa had given to the judge. Rex didn't buy it; he was sure Schuyler had another secret. Gigi insisted they give Schuyler the benefit of the doubt, but Rex didn't understand why she was being so decent to a man who wanted to take her niece away from her. As they continued to argue, Kim sashayed in, dripping with jewels and swaddled in designer duds. She asked about the hearing, and Rex told her it was postponed. Kim said it was just as well, as Schuyler and Gigi's battle would amount to nothing, since Kim would be raising Sierra. Soon, in the neighboring lobby, Kim found herself sitting and pondering an old photo of her and Stacy; speaking to the picture, she promised to raise Sierra Rose as her own, and keep the baby's true paternity a secret. Just then, Dorian breezed past, screaming orders into her cell phone. Noticing Kim, she stopped to offer her condolences for Stacy, and tossed in a compliment for what she was sure was a skillfully made knockoff purse. Kim told her it was no knockoff, and that Clint Buchanan wanted only the best for his bride. "You're married?" Dorian sputtered, and Kim triumphantly brandished her wedding ring. At Schuyler's apartment, Téa was horrified to learn that Sierra Rose had been kidnapped. Schuyler feared that contacting the authorities would cause Allison to kill Sierra. As they waited for Allison to call with more instructions, Schuyler grew increasingly frightened for his "daughter." When Gigi arrived at the door, knocked, and called for Schuyler, both Téa and Schuyler scrambled to figure out what to do. Back at the police station, Rex rushed to Bo and demanded tha the get Kim and his brother off Gigi's back. At Foxy Roxy's, Allison hid behind her facial mask as Natalie discovered Sierra Rose in the salon and grew suspicious of Roxy having the baby with her. As Roxy struggled to think up an explanation, Allison crept toward the front door and locked it. As Natalie rushed over to the phone Bo, Allison pressed the pistol pressed against her back. Allison ordered Natalie to put the phone down. When Natalie turned, she asked the woman in the facial mask who she was. Allison wiped the lotion off to reveal herself. Barack Obama vows to not raise taxes on Americans earning less than $250,000. -------------------------------------------- American families saw their real incomes fall to an average of $70,700 in 2004, down 2.3 percent from 2001, according to a Federal Reserve survey of consumer finances released Thursday. Average net worth rose 6.3 percent during the same period to $448,200, buoyed by the often-dramatic appreciation of house values and the increased rate of homeownership. All figures in the Survey of Consumer Finances, which is released every three years, are adjusted for inflation. "This is a tremendously detailed, comprehensive look at the American family's balance sheet and it ain't pretty," said Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a liberal research group in Washington. Bernstein pointed to the disparity between the economy's robust performance during the three-year period and the benefits -- or lack thereof -- reaped by wage earners. "Between 2001 and 2004, productivity was up almost 12 percent," he said. "That's supposed to mean a significant improvement in living standards, but in terms of net worth, you just don't see it." Growth in income and net worth during the previous period measured by the consumer finance report, 1998-2001, was markedly stronger. From 1998 to 2001, average incomes grew 17.3 percent and median incomes grew 9.5 percent, while average net worth rose 28.7 percent and the median rose 10.3 percent. Medians, or midpoints, for both net worth and income edged up sluggishly during the 2001-04 period. Median net worth rose 1.5 percent to $93,100 in 2004, while median income rose 1.6 percent to $43,200. "That's bupkis, as my grandma would have said," Bernstein said, referring to the small increase in median net worth. That's very disappointing growth, especially in an economy where productivity is up almost 12 percent. The increase in families' most valuable asset, their home, is evident in the report, but it hasn't done much to offset some of the headwinds pushing back against income growth, primarily weak wage performance and debt accumulation." Wages, the biggest component of household income, declined more sharply than income. Median wages fell 6.2 percent; mean wages fell 3.6 percent. Families also took on more debt and saved less during the three years. Debt as a percentage of total assets rose from 12.1 percent in 2001 to 15 percent in 2004. While 59.2 percent of families were socking away savings in 2001, that was down to 56.1 percent of families in 2004. "If you experience a shock to your income, your savings fall," said Deborah Reed, an economist at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco. She noted that for families making close to the average income, a drop of a couple of thousand dollars prompts belt tightening that might work for the short term but become serious if the income dip is prolonged. "They're drawing down their savings, making different choices about lattes or whatever for a few years," she said. "That's OK, but if it lasts, then they can't continue to just spend down savings or save less. They have to make tougher choices: Do I need a new job, a second job, should I cut back on my expenses in a more serious way, take out a second mortgage on my house?" For low-income families, the effects of stagnant or declining incomes are more severe. Families in the bottom 20th percentile had incomes that went from an average of $10,700 in 2001 to $10,800 in 2004. At the next tier up, the average income rose 1.5 percent, from $25,700 to $26,100. "For that group it's not a matter of saving less or drawing down a bank account because they often don't have savings or a bank account," Reed said. "It doesn't take a few years for tough choices to (have to) be made. It's more immediate. Is it another job, is it mom going back to work earlier than she might have, is it not having a car, is it sharing your house with a renter, or becoming a renter? There are a lot of tough choices." Reed said the 1980s were marked by a similar paradox of a growing economy and stagnant wages. "The economy is growing but the profits of that are not being shared with workers. Something of a musician, surfer, and troubadour all rolled into one, Tom Freund's musical acumen is as far and wide as both coasts he's lived on. This New York raised, California transplant, rose to notoriety following a chance introduction to fellow musician, Ben Harper while attending Claremont's Pitzer College in Southern California. Tom and Ben's musical chemistry exploded with the 1992 release of "Pleasure and Pain", and from that point on, Tom's mark in the music business was sealed. Tom toured as bassist for the Alt-Country group, The Silos, and soon after released his debut solo album, "North American Long Weekend" to widespread critical acclaim. "Two Moons" is Tom's seventh studio album, which boasts a true reflection of today's urbane mix of folk, rock, jazz, and roots music.
Eldon goes one-on-one with Tom ahead of his 2015 Bonnaroo gig and appearance at Nashville's hot new venue, Acme Feed & Seed.

At the police station, Bo informed John and Brody that Allison had awoken from her coma and escaped Statesville Prison several weeks prior, and was likely on the loose in Llanview.
When the technician superimposed Allison's face onto Roxy's picture, the guard identified her as the woman who'd visited Mitch. The only question, John mused, was where Allison had gone since then.
At the Sun, Todd pressed Kelly for details on the mystery man who had details on Melinda's death. Kelly explained that Dorian believed Melinda's death was no accident, as her mother didn't have a heart condition. Kelly admitted she suspected Mitch, as well, but dismissed her phantom caller as a prank, and wondered if she was just being paranoid. She told Todd she hadn't informed Dorian about the call, and wasn't going to.
When Dorian visited the Sun, Kelly told her that she was staying in Llanview and had accepted a job at the Sun. . Dorian ordered Kelly to quit, but Kelly said she wouldn't; she wasn't going to be under Todd's thumb, or Dorian's.
Dorian accused Todd of having no interest in Kelly or her journalistic talent, and said he'd only hired her to stick it to Blair. Todd disagreed, and said Kelly was a talented asset who would elevate the paper.
In the Llanview High gymnasium, Jessica surprised Cristian with her request to join the musical stage crew. She asked Cristian to let her prove that she was moving on by working alongside him, and rekindling the platonic friendship they'd had before they began dating.
Just then, Brody arrived outside the gym, and was struck by the sight of Cristian and Jessica together. As he entered and greeted them, he asked to speak to Cristian alone. Taking Cris aside, Brody explained that Allison Perkins was on the loose, and he didn't want to alert Jessica and possibly jostle her fragile mental state. Instead, he asked Cristian to let her join the stage crew as a means of keeping a protective eye on her, while Brody and the police continued their search for Allison. Reluctantly, Cristian agreed.
Reentering the gym, Brody said his goodbyes, and told Jessica he'd call her about their date soon. After he walked out, Jessica asked Cristian what they'd been talking about, but Cristian covered, and told Jess she could join the crew after all. As Cristian and Jessica walked off together, Brody watched from the corridor with a heavy heart.
At the courthouse, Gigi stopped Rex from making a beeline for Schuyler's apartment. She didn't believe Schuyler would run off with Sierra Rose, and sympathized with the babysitter excuse Téa had given to the judge. Rex didn't buy it; he was sure Schuyler had another secret. Gigi insisted they give Schuyler the benefit of the doubt, but Rex didn't understand why she was being so decent to a man who wanted to take her niece away from her.
As they continued to argue, Kim sashayed in, dripping with jewels and swaddled in designer duds. She asked about the hearing, and Rex told her it was postponed. Kim said it was just as well, as Schuyler and Gigi's battle would amount to nothing, since Kim would be raising Sierra.
Soon, in the neighboring lobby, Kim found herself sitting and pondering an old photo of her and Stacy; speaking to the picture, she promised to raise Sierra Rose as her own, and keep the baby's true paternity a secret. Just then, Dorian breezed past, screaming orders into her cell phone. Noticing Kim, she stopped to offer her condolences for Stacy, and tossed in a compliment for what she was sure was a skillfully made knockoff purse. Kim told her it was no knockoff, and that Clint Buchanan wanted only the best for his bride. "You're married?" Dorian sputtered, and Kim triumphantly brandished her wedding ring.
At Schuyler's apartment, Téa was horrified to learn that Sierra Rose had been kidnapped. Schuyler feared that contacting the authorities would cause Allison to kill Sierra. As they waited for Allison to call with more instructions, Schuyler grew increasingly frightened for his "daughter." When Gigi arrived at the door, knocked, and called for Schuyler, both Téa and Schuyler scrambled to figure out what to do.
Back at the police station, Rex rushed to Bo and demanded tha the get Kim and his brother off Gigi's back.
At Foxy Roxy's, Allison hid behind her facial mask as Natalie discovered Sierra Rose in the salon and grew suspicious of Roxy having the baby with her. As Roxy struggled to think up an explanation, Allison crept toward the front door and locked it. As Natalie rushed over to the phone Bo, Allison pressed the pistol pressed against her back. Allison ordered Natalie to put the phone down. When Natalie turned, she asked the woman in the facial mask who she was. Allison wiped the lotion off to reveal herself.

American families saw their real incomes fall to an average of $70,700 in 2004, down 2.3 percent from 2001, according to a Federal Reserve survey of consumer finances released Thursday. Average net worth rose 6.3 percent during the same period to $448,200, buoyed by the often-dramatic appreciation of house values and the increased rate of homeownership. All figures in the Survey of Consumer Finances, which is released every three years, are adjusted for inflation. "This is a tremendously detailed, comprehensive look at the American family's balance sheet and it ain't pretty," said Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a liberal research group in Washington.
Bernstein pointed to the disparity between the economy's robust performance during the three-year period and the benefits -- or lack thereof -- reaped by wage earners. "Between 2001 and 2004, productivity was up almost 12 percent," he said. "That's supposed to mean a significant improvement in living standards, but in terms of net worth, you just don't see it."
Growth in income and net worth during the previous period measured by the consumer finance report, 1998-2001, was markedly stronger. From 1998 to 2001, average incomes grew 17.3 percent and median incomes grew 9.5 percent, while average net worth rose 28.7 percent and the median rose 10.3 percent.
Medians, or midpoints, for both net worth and income edged up sluggishly during the 2001-04 period. Median net worth rose 1.5 percent to $93,100 in 2004, while median income rose 1.6 percent to $43,200. "That's bupkis, as my grandma would have said," Bernstein said, referring to the small increase in median net worth. That's very disappointing growth, especially in an economy where productivity is up almost 12 percent. The increase in families' most valuable asset, their home, is evident in the report, but it hasn't done much to offset some of the headwinds pushing back against income growth, primarily weak wage performance and debt accumulation."
Wages, the biggest component of household income, declined more sharply than income. Median wages fell 6.2 percent; mean wages fell 3.6 percent. Families also took on more debt and saved less during the three years. Debt as a percentage of total assets rose from 12.1 percent in 2001 to 15 percent in 2004. While 59.2 percent of families were socking away savings in 2001, that was down to 56.1 percent of families in 2004. "If you experience a shock to your income, your savings fall," said Deborah Reed, an economist at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco. She noted that for families making close to the average income, a drop of a couple of thousand dollars prompts belt tightening that might work for the short term but become serious if the income dip is prolonged. "They're drawing down their savings, making different choices about lattes or whatever for a few years," she said. "That's OK, but if it lasts, then they can't continue to just spend down savings or save less. For low-income families, the effects of stagnant or declining incomes are more severe. Families in the bottom 20th percentile had incomes that went from an average of $10,700 in 2001 to $10,800 in 2004. At the next tier up, the average income rose 1.5 percent, from $25,700 to $26,100. "For that group it's not a matter of saving less or drawing down a bank account because they often don't have savings or a bank account," Reed said. "It doesn't take a few years for tough choices to (have to) be made. It's more immediate. American families saw their real incomes fall to an average of $70,700 in 2004, down 2.3 percent from 2001, according to a Federal Reserve survey of consumer finances released Thursday. Average net worth rose 6.3 percent during the same period to $448,200, buoyed by the often-dramatic appreciation of house values and the increased rate of homeownership. All figures in the Survey of Consumer Finances, which is released every three years, are adjusted for inflation. "This is a tremendously detailed, comprehensive look at the American family's balance sheet and it ain't pretty," said Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a liberal research group in Washington.
Bernstein pointed to the disparity between the economy's robust performance during the three-year period and the benefits -- or lack thereof -- reaped by wage earners. "Between 2001 and 2004, productivity was up almost 12 percent," he said. "That's supposed to mean a significant improvement in living standards, but in terms of net worth, you just don't see it."
Growth in income and net worth during the previous period measured by the consumer finance report, 1998-2001, was markedly stronger. From 1998 to 2001, average incomes grew 17.3 percent and median incomes grew 9.5 percent, while average net worth rose 28.7 percent and the median rose 10.3 percent.
Medians, or midpoints, for both net worth and income edged up sluggishly during the 2001-04 period. Median net worth rose 1.5 percent to $93,100 in 2004, while median income rose 1.6 percent to $43,200. "That's bupkis, as my grandma would have said," Bernstein said, referring to the small increase in median net worth. That's very disappointing growth, especially in an economy where productivity is up almost 12 percent. The increase in families' most valuable asset, their home, is evident in the report, but it hasn't done much to offset some of the headwinds pushing back against income growth, primarily weak wage performance and debt accumulation."
Wages, the biggest component of household income, declined more sharply than income. Median wages fell 6.2 percent; mean wages fell 3.6 percent. Families also took on more debt and saved less during the three years. Debt as a percentage of total assets rose from 12.1 percent in 2001 to 15 percent in 2004. While 59.2 percent of families were socking away savings in 2001, that was down to 56.1 percent of families in 2004. "If you experience a shock to your income, your savings fall," said Deborah Reed, an economist at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco. She noted that for families making close to the average income, a drop of a couple of thousand dollars prompts belt tightening that might work for the short term but become serious if the income dip is prolonged. "They're drawing down their savings, making different choices about lattes or whatever for a few years," she said. "That's OK, but if it lasts, then they can't continue to just spend down savings or save less. When the technician superimposed Allison's face onto Roxy's picture, the guard identified her as the woman who'd visited Mitch. The only question, John mused, was where Allison had gone since then.
At the Sun, Todd pressed Kelly for details on the mystery man who had details on Melinda's death. Kelly explained that Dorian believed Melinda's death was no accident, as her mother didn't have a heart condition. Kelly admitted she suspected Mitch, as well, but dismissed her phantom caller as a prank, and wondered if she was just being paranoid. She told Todd she hadn't informed Dorian about the call, and wasn't going to.
When Dorian visited the Sun, Kelly told her that she was staying in Llanview and had accepted a job at the Sun. . Dorian ordered Kelly to quit, but Kelly said she wouldn't; she wasn't going to be under Todd's thumb, or Dorian's.
Dorian accused Todd of having no interest in Kelly or her journalistic talent, and said he'd only hired her to stick it to Blair. Todd disagreed, and said Kelly was a talented asset who would elevate the paper.
In the Llanview High gymnasium, Jessica surprised Cristian with her request to join the musical stage crew. She asked Cristian to let her prove that she was moving on by working alongside him, and rekindling the platonic friendship they'd had before they began dating.
Just then, Brody arrived outside the gym, and was struck by the sight of Cristian and Jessica together. As he entered and greeted them, he asked to speak to Cristian alone. Taking Cris aside, Brody explained that Allison Perkins was on the loose, and he didn't want to alert Jessica and possibly jostle her fragile mental state. Instead, he asked Cristian to let her join the stage crew as a means of keeping a protective eye on her, while Brody and the police continued their search for Allison. Reluctantly, Cristian agreed.
Reentering the gym, Brody said his goodbyes, and told Jessica he'd call her about their date soon. After he walked out, Jessica asked Cristian what they'd been talking about, but Cristian covered, and told Jess she could join the crew after all. As Cristian and Jessica walked off together, Brody watched from the corridor with a heavy heart.
At the courthouse, Gigi stopped Rex from making a beeline for Schuyler's apartment. She didn't believe Schuyler would run off with Sierra Rose, and sympathized with the babysitter excuse Téa had given to the judge. Rex didn't buy it; he was sure Schuyler had another secret. Gigi insisted they give Schuyler the benefit of the doubt, but Rex didn't understand why she was being so decent to a man who wanted to take her niece away from her.
As they continued to argue, Kim sashayed in, dripping with jewels and swaddled in designer duds. She asked about the hearing, and Rex told her it was postponed. Kim said it was just as well, as Schuyler and Gigi's battle would amount to nothing, since Kim would be raising Sierra.
Soon, in the neighboring lobby, Kim found herself sitting and pondering an old photo of her and Stacy; speaking to the picture, she promised to raise Sierra Rose as her own, and keep the baby's true paternity a secret. Just then, Dorian breezed past, screaming orders into her cell phone. Noticing Kim, she stopped to offer her condolences for Stacy, and tossed in a compliment for what she was sure was a skillfully made knockoff purse. Kim told her it was no knockoff, and that Clint Buchanan wanted only the best for his bride. "You're married?" Dorian sputtered, and Kim triumphantly brandished her wedding ring.
At Schuyler's apartment, Téa was horrified to learn that Sierra Rose had been kidnapped. Schuyler feared that contacting the authorities would cause Allison to kill Sierra. As they waited for Allison to call with more instructions, Schuyler grew increasingly frightened for his "daughter." When Gigi arrived at the door, knocked, and called for Schuyler, both Téa and Schuyler scrambled to figure out what to do.
Back at the police station, Rex rushed to Bo and demanded tha the get Kim and his brother off Gigi's back.
At Foxy Roxy's, Allison hid behind her facial mask as Natalie discovered Sierra Rose in the salon and grew suspicious of Roxy having the baby with her. As Roxy struggled to think up an explanation, Allison crept toward the front door and locked it. As Natalie rushed over to the phone Bo, Allison pressed the pistol pressed against her back. Allison ordered Natalie to put the phone down. When Natalie turned, she asked the woman in the facial mask who she was. Allison wiped the lotion off to reveal herself.

American families saw their real incomes fall to an average of $70,700 in 2004, down 2.3 percent from 2001, according to a Federal Reserve survey of consumer finances released Thursday. Average net worth rose 6.3 percent during the same period to $448,200, buoyed by the often-dramatic appreciation of house values and the increased rate of homeownership. All figures in the Survey of Consumer Finances, which is released every three years, are adjusted for inflation. "This is a tremendously detailed, comprehensive look at the American family's balance sheet and it ain't pretty," said Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a liberal research group in Washington.
Bernstein pointed to the disparity between the economy's robust performance during the three-year period and the benefits -- or lack thereof -- reaped by wage earners. "Between 2001 and 2004, productivity was up almost 12 percent," he said. "That's supposed to mean a significant improvement in living standards, but in terms of net worth, you just don't see it."
Growth in income and net worth during the previous period measured by the consumer finance report, 1998-2001, was markedly stronger. From 1998 to 2001, average incomes grew 17.3 percent and median incomes grew 9.5 percent, while average net worth rose 28.7 percent and the median rose 10.3 percent.
Medians, or midpoints, for both net worth and income edged up sluggishly during the 2001-04 period. Median net worth rose 1.5 percent to $93,100 in 2004, while median income rose 1.6 percent to $43,200. "That's bupkis, as my grandma would have said," Bernstein said, referring to the small increase in median net worth. That's very disappointing growth, especially in an economy where productivity is up almost 12 percent. The increase in families' most valuable asset, their home, is evident in the report, but it hasn't done much to offset some of the headwinds pushing back against income growth, primarily weak wage performance and debt accumulation."
Wages, the biggest component of household income, declined more sharply than income. Median wages fell 6.2 percent; mean wages fell 3.6 percent. Families also took on more debt and saved less during the three years. Debt as a percentage of total assets rose from 12.1 percent in 2001 to 15 percent in 2004. While 59.2 percent of families were socking away savings in 2001, that was down to 56.1 percent of families in 2004. "If you experience a shock to your income, your savings fall," said Deborah Reed, an economist at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco. She noted that for families making close to the average income, a drop of a couple of thousand dollars prompts belt tightening that might work for the short term but become serious if the income dip is prolonged. "They're drawing down their savings, making different choices about lattes or whatever for a few years," she said. "That's OK, but if it lasts, then they can't continue to just spend down savings or save less. They have to make tougher choices: Do I need a new job, a second job, should I cut back on my expenses in a more serious way, take out a second mortgage on my house?"
For low-income families, the effects of stagnant or declining incomes are more severe. Families in the bottom 20th percentile had incomes that went from an average of $10,700 in 2001 to $10,800 in 2004. At the next tier up, the average income rose 1.5 percent, from $25,700 to $26,100. "For that group it's not a matter of saving less or drawing down a bank account because they often don't have savings or a bank account," Reed said. "It doesn't take a few years for tough choices to (have to) be made. It's more immediate. Is it another job, is it mom going back to work earlier than she might have, is it not having a car, is it sharing your house with a renter, or becoming a renter? There are a lot of tough choices." Reed said the 1980s were marked by a similar paradox of a growing economy and stagnant wages. "The economy is growing but the profits of that are not being shared with workers. They're going to the CEOs and the people owning stock," she said.
