'Rime Of The Ancient Mariner' is a song from Iron Maiden's album ''Powerslave'',released in 1984.
''Based on the famous 1798 poem (originally entitled The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere and re-written in 1817 mainly in order to "modernise" the archaic spelling) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), this is Maiden's greatest epic ballad. With a length of over 13 and a half minutes, it is also their longest song. ''
''To conclude, it seems that The Rime of the Ancient Mariner captures an age-old dilemma: man's essential apartness in his loneliness. Man is alienated from the world. Hell, according to some iconoclastic theologians, is nothing more than such isolation (i.e., it is a state of mind). Subsequently, all of the above contribute to the poem's lasting appeal. Each reader leaves the poem, like the Wedding Guest, a "sadder and a wiser man"; that is, he or she is inititiated into the higher mystery which was shown to the Mariner through great suffering. I wrote this for My British Literature final, hoping for extra credit. The final was a take home paper and the prompt was to describe a movie you would make based on one of the poems we wrote. I chose The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Being focused on music, I focused on the soundtrack. This is what I wrote about it: "A bass clarinet and a piano lay down an eerie rhythm as a harp plays low arpeggios during the production company’s opening logos. After a phrase of this, flutes begin to play in a rippling pattern, a piccolo takes the lead, a French horn harmonizes and the stings begin to build. Finally, a hand bell choir begins playing a series of minor chords before the whole orchestra changes from a minor key to a major key and fades out. Throughout this whole part, a chilling wind sound is barely audible over the music. As the orchestra fades out, words begin to form on screen: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. After a brief pause, the hand bells descend in a major scale twice. After the first scale, the title of the movie gives way to an aerial shot of a Victorian church steeple on an overcast early winter day and proceeds to fly around town. During the second scale, tubular bells (which sound much like church bells) join the hand bells before leading into a joyful sounding organ, string, flute and bell piece, symbolizing the wedding mentioned at the beginning of the poem. The song begins to wind down as the camera arrives at a tavern. We see a young man in a top hat and scarf exiting the tavern into a narrow street heading for the church. The music suddenly turns dark as an extremely elderly man in shabby clothes stops the smartly dressed young man and begins to tell him his cautionary tale." Enjoy!

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (originally The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere) is the longest major poem by the English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, written in 1797–98 and published in 1798 in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads. Modern editions use a revised version printed in 1817 that featured a gloss. Along with other poems in Lyrical Ballads, it was a signal shift to modern poetry and the beginning of British Romantic literature.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner relates the experiences of a sailor who has returned from a long sea voyage. The mariner stops a man who is on the way to a wedding ceremony and begins to narrate a story. The wedding-guest's reaction turns from bemusement to impatience to fear to fascination as the mariner's story progresses, as can be seen in the language style: Coleridge uses narrative techniques such as personification and repetition to create a sense of danger, the supernatural, or serenity, depending on the mood in different parts of the poem.

Ancient history
Ancient history is the aggregate of past events from the beginning of recorded human history and extending as far as the Early Middle Ages or the Postclassical Era. The span of recorded history is roughly 5,000 years, beginning with Sumerian Cuneiform script, the oldest discovered form of coherent writing from the protoliterate period around the 30th century BC.
The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to history in the Old World from the beginning of recorded Greek history in 776 BC (First Olympiad). This roughly coincides with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome, and the beginning of the Archaic period in Ancient Greece. Although the ending date of ancient history is disputed, some Western scholars use the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD (the most used), the closure of the Platonic Academy in 529 AD, the death of the emperor Justinian I in 565 AD, the coming of Islam or the rise of Charlemagne as the end of ancient and Classical European history.

The Ancient
The Ancient is a novel by R. A. Salvatore set in his world of Corona. The Ancient is the sequel to The Highwayman. It is about a crippled man named Bransen Garibond, also known as the Highwayman. After being kicked out of Pryd Holding, Bransen is searching for his long lost father, traveling with his wife Cadayle, and her mother Callen.
He gets tricked into fighting a war against the Samhaist leader, Ancient Badden. On a lake just below Badden's Magical Ice Castle, there are societies in the middle of their own conflicts, unaware of Badden's plan to destroy them. Bransen becomes the only person able to save all of the lake's inhabitants, and stop all of northern Honce from being under Badden's Control.

Sailor
A sailor, seaman, mariner, or seafarer is a person who navigates waterborne vessels or assists as a crewmember in their operation and maintenance. The term bluejacket may be used for British or US Navy enlisted sailors, the latter especially when deployed ashore as infantry.The Bluejacket's Manual is the basic handbook for United States Navy personnel. 700,000 of the world's mariners come from the Philippines, being the world's largest origin of seafarers.
Etymologically, the name "sailor" preserves the memory of the time when ships were commonly powered by sails, but it applies to the personnel of all vessels, whatever their mode of propulsion, and includes military (naval) and security (coast guard) maritime personnel and members of the merchant marine, as well as recreational sailors. The term "seaman" is frequently used in the particular sense of a sailor who is not an officer.
Professional mariners
Seafarers hold a variety of professions and ranks, each of which carries unique responsibilities which are integral to the successful operation of an ocean-going vessel. A ship's crew can generally be divided into four main categories: the deck department, the engineering department, the steward's department, and others.

Then down in falls comes the rain

Bodies lifted by good spirits

''Based on the famous 1798 poem (originally entitled The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere and re-written in 1817 mainly in order to "modernise" the archaic spelling) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), this is Maiden's greatest epic ballad. With a length of over 13 and a half minutes, it is also their longest song. ''

I wrote this for My British Literature final, hoping for extra credit. The final was a take home paper and the prompt was to describe a movie you would make based on one of the poems we wrote. I chose The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Being focused on music, I focused on the soundtrack. This is what I wrote about it: "A bass clarinet and a piano lay down an eerie rhythm as a harp plays low arpeggios during the production company’s opening logos. After a phrase of this, flutes begin to play in a rippling pattern, a piccolo takes the lead, a French horn harmonizes and the stings begin to build. Finally, a hand bell choir begins playing a series of minor chords before the whole orchestra changes from a minor key to a major key and fades out. Throughout this whole part, a chilling wind sound is barely audible over the music. As the orchestra fades out, words begin to form on screen: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. After a brief pause, the hand bells descend in a major scale twice. After the first scale, the title of the movie gives way to an aerial shot of a Victorian church steeple on an overcast early winter day and proceeds to fly around town. During the second scale, tubular bells (which sound much like church bells) join the hand bells before leading into a joyful sounding organ, string, flute and bell piece, symbolizing the wedding mentioned at the beginning of the poem. The song begins to wind down as the camera arrives at a tavern. We see a young man in a top hat and scarf exiting the tavern into a narrow street heading for the church. The music suddenly turns dark as an extremely elderly man in shabby clothes stops the smartly dressed young man and begins to tell him his cautionary tale." Enjoy!

''Based on the famous 1798 poem (originally entitled The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere and re-written in 1817 mainly in order to "modernise" the archaic spelling) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), this is Maiden's greatest epic ballad. With a length of over 13 and a half minutes, it is also their longest song. ''

But how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide?
See... onward she comes, onward she nears, out of the sun
See... she has no crew, she has no life, wait but there's two
Death and she Life in Death, they throw their dice for the crew
She wins the Mariner and he belongs to her now
Then... crew one by one, they drop down dead, two hundred men
She... She Life in Death, she lets him live, her chosen one

The curse it lives on in their eyes
The Mariner he wished he'd die
Along with the sea creatures
But they lived on, so did he

The albatross falls from his neck

Then down in falls comes the rain
Hear the groans of the long dead seamen
See them stir and they start to rise
Bodies lifted by good spirits
None of them speak and they're lifeless in their eyes
And revenge is still sought, penance starts again

I wrote this for My British Literature final, hoping for extra credit. The final was a take home paper and the prompt was to describe a movie you would make based on one of the poems we wrote. I chose The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Being focused on music, I focused on the soundtrack. This is what I wrote about it: "A bass clarinet and a piano lay down an eerie rhythm as a harp plays low arpeggios during the production company’s opening logos. After a phrase of this, flutes begin to play in a rippling pattern, a piccolo takes the lead, a French horn harmonizes and the stings begin to build. Finally, a hand bell choir begins playing a series of minor chords before the whole orchestra changes from a minor key to a major key and fades out. Throughout this whole part, a chilling wind sound is barely audible over the music. As the orchestra fades out, words begin to form on screen: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. After a brief pause, the hand bells descend in a major scale twice. After the first scale, the title of the movie gives way to an aerial shot of a Victorian church steeple on an overcast early winter day and proceeds to fly around town. During the second scale, tubular bells (which sound much like church bells) join the hand bells before leading into a joyful sounding organ, string, flute and bell piece, symbolizing the wedding mentioned at the beginning of the poem. The song begins to wind down as the camera arrives at a tavern. We see a young man in a top hat and scarf exiting the tavern into a narrow street heading for the church. The music suddenly turns dark as an extremely elderly man in shabby clothes stops the smartly dressed young man and begins to tell him his cautionary tale." Enjoy!
