Dudley started working as a stud groom at Easthorpe Hall Stud for Peter Easterby in 1973. He was responsible for foaling all the mares, as well as managing the stud, store horses and preparing yearlings for the sales. He was also responsible for breaking all the yearlings and has gone on to break on average 80 per year for the last 39 years! During his career Dudley has managed 14 stallions, including Lochnagar and reared Bollin Eric. Breeding can be a trying and stressful practice but Dudley always coped with the ups and downs, taking it all in his stride. Dudley went on to manage the training side at Easthorpe. His training achievements included winning The Stewards Cup with Guinea Hunter. He worked tirelessly and diligently firstly for Peter and then for Tim Easterby until his retirement in July 2012. Peter and Tim greatly value the immense knowledge Dudley brought to the job. He was an integral part of the team, unerringly reliable and 100% committed to the welfare of the horses in his care. He enjoyed the responsibility of running Easthorpe, and even lived "over the shop" with his wife and family. He was always a fair man who created a good working environment for the staff working under him, so much so that many friendships have carried on.
