Alfredo Lim

Alfredo Siojo Lim (Chinese: 林雯洛; pinyin: Lín Wénluò; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lîm Bûn-lo̍k; born 21 December 1929) is a Chinese Filipino politician who served as Mayor of the City of Manila from 1992 to 1998 and 2007 to 2013 and senator of the Philippines from 2004 to 2007.

Prior to entering politics, Lim served as a policeman for three decades. During the administration of President Corazon Aquino, he was appointed as the Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

In 1992, he ran as mayor of Manila and won, serving until 1998. He made an unsuccessful bid to the presidency in 1998. Two years later, in 2000, he was appointed by President Joseph Estrada as the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). During the 2004 elections, he ran for senator and won. Three years later, in 2007, he decided not to finish his term in the Senate and ran again for mayor of Manila. He lost his bid for a fifth nonconsecutive term to Estrada in 2013.

Because of his tough stance against suspected criminals, Lim was able to earn the nickname “Dirty Harry.”

Ronald Allan Kelley Poe (August 20, 1939 – December 14, 2004), better known as Fernando Poe, Jr. and colloquially known as FPJ and Da King, was a Filipino actor. During the latter part of his career, Poe was defeated by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the 2004 Philippine presidential elections. His long career as an action film star earned him the nickname "King of Philippine Movies" (often shortened to Da King).

Poe was posthumously declared a National Artist of the Philippines for Film on May 23, 2006 by President Macapagal-Arroyo. The award was confirmed by President Benigno Aquino III on July 20, 2012, and was presented to his family on August 16.

Early life

Ronald Allan K. Poe was the son of Filipino actor Allan Fernando Poe y Reyes (Fernando Poe, Sr.) and Elizabeth "Bessie" Kelley, an American. He was born in Manila. His parents were not yet legally married when he was born on August 20, 1939, although his parents were later married in 1940. His political opponents tried to derail his bid for the 2004 Philippine presidency when they sought to disqualify him as an illegitimate son of a non-Filipino mother. He was the second among six siblings and it was his brother Andy (Fernando II) who was really named Fernando Poe, Jr. which FPJ later adopted, to bank on the popularity of his father who was a top actor in his time. Conrad Poe, a Filipino actor is FPJ's half-brother, the illegitimate son of the late Fernando Poe Sr. and actress Patricia Mijares.
