Let's go back in time and build the Dreambuild of 1998 to play games! This build was the best configuration for gaming. The cpu is the brand new Pentium II 450 we go only for the best! With 256mb we have a huge amount of memory. To play video games at the highest framerates and settings we have a Riva TNT 16mb and 2x Voodoo2 12mb in sli. Because you need to have a large harddrive to store all your games so we got a 13gb harddrive! The soundcard is offcourse a Soundblaster Live for 4channel surroundsound. The highspeed network connecting is a 100mbit 3Com 3C905B-TX so on lan party's we have the best connection. We have a fast 40 speed AOpen CD-ROM player to cut down loading time of the games. And a Phlips CD-RW to backup our games! To house all this goodness we got a AOpen HX45 miditower with a strong 250 watt powersupply. Get something to drink and some popcorn and enjoy watching! It took me over 1.5 years to get all the parts. And the most difficult part to find was the case in good condition. And most cases from 1998 and very ugly. The only part I bought was the Diamond Viper V550 for 5 euro in a thriftshop and the rest was free. When people say the word Pentium, the first thing that crosses my mind is that Pentium is the one & only processor that I know and also rest of the world knows as well. It is a globally established processor. The second thing that I think about whenever the word Pentium reaches my ears is all those 90s memories that I still keep cherished inside my thoughts: The first time my brother & I watched a movie on his new Dell laptop back in year 2000, the good times my brothers had playing multi-player games like Super Mario & Sonic on their laptop, all thanks to Pentium's excellent performance throughout those years... And last but certainly not least, one thing that Pentium certainly means to me is the symbol of the words SUPER, POWERFUL, & EXCELLENCE..Just like Superman, although I would probably call him Pentium-Man instead.. :D

The Pentium II brand refers to Intel's sixth-generation microarchitecture ("P6") and x86-compatible microprocessors introduced on May 7, 1997. Containing 7.5 million transistors (27.4 million in the case of the mobile Dixon with 256 KB L2 cache), the Pentium II featured an improved version of the first P6-generation core of the Pentium Pro, which contained 5.5 million transistors. However, its L2 cache subsystem was a downgrade when compared to Pentium Pros. In early 1999, the Pentium II was superseded by the almost identical Pentium III, which basically only added SSE instructions to the CPU. In 1998, Intel stratified the Pentium II family by releasing the Pentium II-based Celeron line of processors for low-end workstations and the Pentium II Xeon line for servers and high-end workstations. The Celeron was characterized by a reduced or omitted (in some cases present but disabled) on-die full-speed L2 cache and a 66 MT/s FSB. The Xeon was characterized by a range of full-speed L2 cache (from 512 KB to 2048 KB), a 100 MT/s FSB, a different physical interface (Slot 2), and support for symmetric multiprocessing. The Pentium III (marketed as Intel Pentium III Processor, informally PIII, also stylized as Pentium !!! ) brand refers to Intel's 32-bit x86 desktop and mobile microprocessors based on the sixth-generation P6 microarchitecture introduced on February 26, 1999. The brand's initial processors were very similar to the earlier Pentium II-branded microprocessors. The most notable differences were the addition of the SSE instruction set (to accelerate floating point and parallel calculations), and the introduction of a controversial serial number embedded in the chip during the manufacturing process. The Guardian 2015-03-12Pentium is a brand used for a series of x86-compatible microprocessors produced by Intel. In its most current form, a Pentium processor is a consumer-level product with a two-star rating, above the low-end Atom and Celeron products but below the faster Core i3, i5 and i7 lines as well as the high-end Xeon processors.
The name Pentium is originally derived from the Greek word pente (πέντε), meaning 'five' (as the series was Intel's 5th generation microarchitecture, the P5), and the Latin ending -ium. The current Pentium processors only share the name but are in fact based on the same processor chips that are used in the Intel Core but are typically used with a lower clock frequency, a partially disabled L3 cache and some of the advanced features such as Hyper-threading and Virtualization disabled.
During development Intel generally identifies processors with codenames, such as Prescott, Willamette, Coppermine, Katmai, Klamath or Deschutes. These usually become widely known, even after the processors are given official names on launch.
