He received six nominations for the Academy Award for Film Editing, including five in the six years preceding his death.
His first credit was as an assistant editor on the 1932 film What Price Hollywood?. He then edited a string of B-movies throughout the 1930s and '40s, picking up his first Oscar nomination in 1949 for the dark thriller The Window (directed by Ted Tetzlaff).
His productive association with Stanley Kramer began in 1955 and yielded his greatest work: The Defiant Ones (1958), On the Beach (1959), Inherit the Wind (1960), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963).

Diane Tell (born Diane Fortin, 24 December 1958 in Quebec City, Quebec) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She first studied music (violin and classical guitar) at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal and the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Val-d'Or, then studied jazz guitar at Cégep de Saint-Laurent in Montreal. She started writing songs at the age of 12 and signed her first record deal at 18. She was probably the first female French Canadian singer songwriter to record her own songs exclusively. "Gilberto", her first hit song was a tribute to João Gilberto but it was "Si j'étais un homme" on her third album that made her a popular artist both in Canada and Europe. She moved to Paris in 1983 and now lives in Biarritz, France.
During her residency in France, she wrote songs with Boris Bergman, Maryline Desbiolles, Maryse Wolinski, Yann Moix and Françoise Hardy. She also participated in three original musicals, La légende de Jimmy, Marilyn Montreuil and recently Je m'voyais déjà.

Fred Astaire (born Frederick Austerlitz; May 10, 1899 – June 22, 1987) was an American dancer, singer, actor, choreographer, musician, and television presenter.
His stage and subsequent film and television careers spanned a total of 76 years, during which he made 31 musical films and several award-winning television specials and issued numerous recordings. He was named the fifth Greatest Male Star of Old Hollywood by the American Film Institute. As a dancer, he is best remembered for his sense of rhythm, his legendary perfectionism, and as the dancing partner and on-screen romantic interest of Ginger Rogers, with whom he co-starred in a series of ten Hollywood musicals which transformed the genre.
Gene Kelly, another major innovator in filmed dance, said that "the history of dance on film begins with Astaire." Beyond film and television, many noted dancers and choreographers, including Rudolf Nureyev, Sammy Davis, Jr., Michael Jackson, Gregory Hines, Mikhail Baryshnikov, George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Madhuri Dixit, also acknowledged his importance and influence. Astaire ranks as the fifth greatest male star of Classic Hollywood cinema in AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars.

This was the other video we did in Montana that everybody has been asking me to upload. It might still be played occasionally on Much Music which is where this was copied from. It had a syfy theme and was produced by Giles Lapierre and directed James Taylor. Brian MacLeod played drums and helped write it and recorded the song in 1989. I don't know anyone that hit as hard as he did. 9 months later we did the video for Lorelei in 1990 which you've all probably seen by now and Brian got sick shortly after that. Also Karl Moraski on keys, Denis Driscoll on bass, Ross "Rude" Damude on guitar and Rick Livingstone on vocals.

Based on a script by John Milius, the making of Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now is nearly as fascinating as the film itself. To that end, Fax Bahr, director of Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse discusses the creation of his documentary.
Talk from the conference "Algebra, Combinatorics and Representation Theory: in memory of Andrei Zelevinsky (1953-2013)," given at Northeastern University on April 27th, 2013. The other talks can be found in this playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLMtka0XALS652IpzynbTjslSURy90hH- Abstract: Given a filtered topological space, the induced maps on the homology of its filtered pieces yield a quiver commonly known as its "persistent homology". This notion has numerous applications, including statistical methods for geometric structures in medical imaging and evolutionary biology. Dealing with singular structures leads to new notions of stratified persistent homology and raises stability questions. The motivation and primary applications for these developments involve ext...

Three more myths, misunderstood by both proponents and critics of climate science: Global Warming means more hurricanes, drowned islands and dead coral reefs. Well, it's not really that simple. Below are the sources for the hurricanes segment. The total list was too long, so Peter made a separate video for these that we call: "Part 11B: Climate Change - Sources For Peter's Last Video". 1) NBC news report: "Hurricanes and Global Warming Connection" on YouTube 2) "Changes in Tropical Cyclone Number, Duration, and Intensity in a Warming Environment" Webster et al, Science 2005 3) Half-degree increase in temp leads to approx 40% increase in hurricanes: "Large contribution of sea surface warming to recent increase in Atlantic hurricane activity" -- Saunders and Lea, Nature 2008 4) 60- to 8...
