Loaded (novel)

Loaded is the first novel by Australian writer Christos Tsiolkas. It was first published in 1995, and was adapted into the 1998 film Head On.

Plot

The novel describes twenty-four hours in the life of "Ari", a young gay Greek Australian. Ari travels across the city of Melbourne, Australia, taking speed, cocaine and smoking marijuana whenever presented to him.

Critical reception

When Tsiolkas submitted the manuscript of "Loaded" to an independent publisher, it was rejected as "racist and homophobic".

Loaded (Primal Scream song)

"Loaded" is a 1990 song recorded by the rock band Primal Scream. It was the first single released from the group's 1991 breakthrough album, Screamadelica. It is a remix of Primal Scream's earlier song, "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have".

Inspiration and composition

Primal Scream approached Andrew Weatherall after a favourable review of the second Primal Scream album in the 'Boys Own' football fanzine. He was asked to remix "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have", a song from the band's eponymous second album, Primal Scream and by the second or third attempt Loaded was born — his first visit to a recording studio.

At the start of the song, Weatherall added an audio sample of Peter Fonda from the film The Wild Angels.

Synopsis

Tristan Price is a wealthy and privileged teenager who seemingly has everything he could ever want, money, loving parents and a beautiful girlfriend. However, his perfect life is turned upside down by the arrival of Sebastian, a handsome, charismatic, ruthless drug dealer. As Tristan is sucked into a seedy underworld of drugs, sex and violence he begins to realise his new best friend is, in fact, his worst enemy.

The Yes Album

The Yes Album is the third studio album from the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 19 February 1971 on Atlantic Records. It is their first album with guitarist Steve Howe who replaced Peter Banks in 1970, and their last in the 1970s to feature keyboardist Tony Kaye.

The album was the first by the group not to feature any cover versions, which had been a staple of their material until that point. The band spent mid-1970 writing and rehearsing new material at a farmhouse in South Molton, Devon, and the new songs were recorded at Advision Studios in the autumn. While the album retained close harmony singing, Kaye's Hammond organ and Chris Squire's melodic bass, as heard on earlier releases, the new material also covered further styles including jazz piano, funk and acoustic music, with all band members contributing ideas, and tracks were extended in length to allow music to develop. Howe contributed a variety of guitar styles, including a Portuguese guitar, and recorded a solo acoustic guitar piece, "Clap", live at the Lyceum Theatre, London.
