In compiling the text of St. Paul,the composer, who was well grounded in bible knowledge, and Julius Schubring confined themselves almost exclusively to the words of holy writ. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, who proclaims the new teaching to believers and unbelievers alike, is stoned to death by a furious crowd. Saul of Tarsus, a passionate defender of the traditions of his forebears, persecutes the Christian communities without mercy. But then, as is reported three times in the Acts of the Apostles, he has a vision of the risen Christ. He is deeply moved, and afflicted with blindness for three days; after this experience on the road to Damascus he takes the name of Paul and becomes one of Christ's apostles.

St. Paul (oratorio)
St. Paul (in German Paulus), Op. 36, is an oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn.
Background
The libretto was begun in 1832 by the composer with Pastor Julius Schubring, a childhood friend, pulling together passages from the New Testament (chiefly the Acts of the Apostles) and Old Testament. It also features chorales or hymn settings after Bach's manner.
Composition of the music began in 1834, and the work was premiered on May 22, 1836 (having been completed in April of that year) at the Lower Rhenish Music Festival in Düsseldorf. The English premiere was in Liverpool on October 3, 1836 in a translation by Mendelssohn's friend, Karl Klingermann. Contralto Mary Shaw was one of the soloists at the English premiere. The first performance in the United States was in Boston on March 14, 1837. Mendelssohn himself conducted the first performance in Leipzig in the Paulinerkirche on March 16, 1837. Numerous performances followed in Europe and in the United States.
During Mendelssohn's lifetime, St. Paul was a popular and frequently performed work. However, compared with such oratorios as Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio and St Matthew Passion or even Mendelssohn's own Elijah, it has failed to maintain its place in the choral repertory and is now infrequently performed in its entirety.

Sebastián (sculptor)
Sebacrtian (born Enrique Carbajal González on November 15, 1947) is a Mexican sculptor best known for his monumental works of steel and/or concrete in both Mexico and abroad. These include a number of “gate” sculptures such as the Gran Puerta a México in Matamoros, Tamaulipas but his most famous sculpture is the “Caballito” located in downtown Mexico City. His works are found in various cities outside of Mexico, such as Japan where two are now used as city symbols.
Life
Sebastián was born Enrique Carbajal González on November 15, 1947 in Santa Rosalía de Camargo, Chihuahua in northern Mexico. He knew he wanted to be an artist since he was a small child. He lived in Chihuahua until he began studying in the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas in Mexico City in 1964. When studying in Mexico City, he survived by working at restaurants and buying clothing to sell it for a profit in Chihuahua. Heavily influenced by the work of Henry Moore and Pablo Picasso, he won first place in the 1965 Annual Exposition of the National Plastic Arts School at UNAM.

Sebastian (2006) is the first novel of the Landscapes of Ephemera duology written by Anne Bishop and introduces the world Ephemera.
Plot introduction
The incubus Sebastian is the bastard child of a succubus and the wizard Koltak. Being an incubus has not made his life easy. Forced to flee every city or town he settled in, he has never known a home. Until one day, his cousin, 15-year-old Glorianna Belladonna, creates a landscape where demons can live, called the 'Den of Iniquity'. It is a 'carnal carnival' filled with gambling, drinking, prostitution and demons. Shocked by her actions and her ability to create a landscape, the wizards and Landscapers question her. She simply responds, "Even demons need a home." The wizards attempt to lock her into her own garden, but fail. She is then declared rogue.
Meanwhile, Sebastian, living in the Den of Iniquity and ignorant of the sacrifices his cousin has made for him, begins to tire of the life he lives, finding simply having sex with women no longer interesting. When he first stumbled into the Den when he was a 15-year-old boy, he and his first and foremost friend Teaser, another incubus, prowled around the Den, using their abilities to entertain themselves. This life no longer holds any appeal. He yearns for love - and it appears in the form of Lynnea. In compiling the text of St. Paul,the composer, who was well grounded in bible knowledge, and Julius Schubring confined themselves almost exclusively to the words of holy writ. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, who proclaims the new teaching to believers and unbelievers alike, is stoned to death by a furious crowd. Saul of Tarsus, a passionate defender of the traditions of his forebears, persecutes the Christian communities without mercy. But then, as is reported three times in the Acts of the Apostles, he has a vision of the risen Christ. He is deeply moved, and afflicted with blindness for three days; after this experience on the road to Damascus he takes the name of Paul and becomes one of Christ's apostles.

In compiling the text of St. Paul,the composer, who was well grounded in bible knowledge, and Julius Schubring confined themselves almost exclusively to the words of holy writ. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, who proclaims the new teaching to believers and unbelievers alike, is stoned to death by a furious crowd. Saul of Tarsus, a passionate defender of the traditions of his forebears, persecutes the Christian communities without mercy. But then, as is reported three times in the Acts of the Apostles, he has a vision of the risen Christ. He is deeply moved, and afflicted with blindness for three days; after this experience on the road to Damascus he takes the name of Paul and becomes one of Christ's apostles.
