So what I think is happening here is in the beginning Joker is telling Harley "I know that. And I appreciate that. That's why I'm hoping, hoping... you could do me just a little itsy bitsy favor", so it seems Harleen herself has grown feelings for the Joker while being his psychiatrist. She ends up doing this favor for him which helps his plan to escape Arkham. I'm not quite sure if it's the clip being edited down like that or what but it does have a trippy feeling. Anyway, eventually after he escapes Harleen chases him down on her motorcycle. She joins up with him and he takes her to ACE Chemicals, which has recently been beautifully described as their "chemical wedding". She falls in, Joker brings her out and they kiss and laugh maniacally. Another flashback of Harley and Joker at his club. Joker announces Harley as she puts on a dance number, this is where the 4-5 girls with batman masks are doing a bit as we've learned in recent magazine articles, and when we see Harley pretending to shoot them all down. Common's character "Monster T" is there to do a deal with Joker. He takes Joker's gun as seen in the screenshot and tries to play him. Joker flatters and teases him, ends up killing him. Batman gives chase to Harley and Joker, Joker crashes in the lake, Batman saves Harley and takes her in. Amanda Waller ends up recruiting Harley and while the whole Suicide Squad mission is going on, Joker is a mess trying to find Harley. Johnny Frost or someone ends up delivering intel to him about how Harley and others have gone missing and are believed to be at Belle Reeve. Joker kidnaps the guard, Alpha 01 (played by Ike Barinholtz), finds out where Harley is and finds out about the bombs. He makes sure Alpha 01 is complicit in helping him and Harley receives word about the cell phone, which Joker plants in the purse she ends up stealing. She gets the cell phone to keep in touch with the Joker. Before that happens though, Joker goes to the factory where the bombs were made (owned by Wayne Enterprises btw!). He uses the same gun used to plant the bombs in the squad to plant one in the labworker, who is then forced to give up how to disarm them. So eventually Harley gets that text from Joker about how he'll be there soon. She heads to the roof to jump on his Helicopter, they kiss. Amanda Waller is furious and acts to blow up her bomb. Joker has just disarmed it and throws it out when it detonates, causing the heli to shake and Harley to fall, which is when we see Joker with the flames behind him as he reaches out and yells for Harley. Harley is able to grab on to the rope by her feet. Deadshot has her in his sights, as seen, and is ordered to shoot. He's grown feelings for her while working together and waits for her to have a safe fall when he pulls up and shoots the rope instead. Harley lands safely, meanwhile Joker's helicopter is on flames and crashes. The Squad catches up to Harley, she puts her hands up and claims she went on to take him out and he pushed her off, she takes off her Puddin' collar and Deadshot comforts her. The squad goes to get a drink before they are briefed on their final mission. They move in on the "circle of trash in the sky" as Deadshot calls it, and during that encounter, or after, we see in the same spot Joker with his half of his face all dirty from the crash. He interrupts them once again butgets away, possibly leaving them in lieu of whatever craziness is going on with Enchantress and Incubus. The Squad succeeds in the end, but of course are locked back up. Joker breaks Harley out in the end to tease towards the solo Batman movie.
