Close up of poster SUGGESTED LEAD IN In the glamorous world of television appearance is everything. But in Pakistan, one very prominent television host is not quite what she appears to be. STORYLINE: Born as a boy, Ali Salim always prayed to God to be transformed into a girl. The 27-year-old Ali Salim has since been transformed into one of Pakistan's most captivating media women - in appearance, if not biologically. In one episode of the show which is aired by Aaj Television, Ali is dressed in a blood-red chiffon sari and his face is covered in layers of well-crafted makeup. After three long hours the transformation from male Alia Salim to ''female'' Begum Nawazish Ali is complete. Ali first appeared on Pakistan's television screens on Geo TV where he performed a parody of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutton. Now as Begum (Mrs) Nawazish Ali, Salim has his own show where he gets to interview some very influential Pakistani personalities, including political leaders, showbiz personalities and social figures. Ali says the programme is about empowering women and female emancipation and he says he is trying to use his character to portray the modern face of Pakistan. The show has brought Ali financial stability, confidence and of course national fame.
