County Commissioners Steve Sisolak and Susan Brager recently joined other elected leaders and IKEA representatives to officially break ground on a new IKEA store coming to the southwest Las Vegas Valley in summer 2016. The 351,000 square-foot future IKEA Las Vegas, and 1,300 parking spaces, will be built on 26 acres along the northern side of Interstate-215 at Durango Drive, near Sunset Road. IKEA has contracted with R&O; Construction to build the project, and store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. In addition, IKEA will evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. goal of a renewable energy presence at nearly 90 percent of its U.S. locations. IKEA Las Vegas will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking. In addition to the more than 500 jobs that are expected to be created during the construction phase, about 300 coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens. IKEA Las Vegas also will provide significant annual sales and property tax revenue for local governments and schools. Candidates interested in working at this employer of choice should begin looking online this fall at www.IKEA-USA.com, where they will be able to apply for diverse positions available in home furnishings sales, interior decoration, customer service, safety and security, cashiers, maintenance, goods flow, receiving, warehouse and stock replenishment. Among its total coworkers, IKEA Las Vegas also will offer more than 60 food service opportunities in its Restaurant, Swedish Foodmarket, Café Bistro and coworker cafeteria.

The Las Vegas Valley is a metropolitan area in the southern part of the US state of Nevada, and is the heart of the Las Vegas–Paradise, NV MSA also known as the Las Vegas–Paradise–Henderson MSA which includes all of Clark County, Nevada. The Valley is defined by the Las Vegas Valley landform, a 600 sq mi (1,600 km2) basin area that contains the largest concentration of people in the state. The history of the Valley significantly intertwines with the history of the city of Las Vegas and one of the two primary cities (as used by the census bureau) in the MSA, with the other being Paradise. The valley is home to the three largest incorporated cities in Nevada: Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas.
The names Las Vegas and Vegas are used to indicate the valley, the strip, the city and are used as a brand by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and used to denominate the entire region. The metropolitan area's population was at 741,459 in 1990. The population was approximately 2 million in 2010 (estimated). The valley is an area generally defined by the Spring Mountains on the west, Sheep Mountains to the north, Muddy Mountains and Lake Mead to the east, and the Black Mountains to the south.[citation needed]

Residents on the eastern half of the Las Vegas Valley are celebrating their first indoor aquatic center. Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, who represents the area, is joining residents and staff in March 2012 in dedicating the Hollywood Aquatic Center, which features indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides and a lazy river. It is located in Hollywood Regional Park at 1550 S. Hollywood Blvd., between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, in the foothills of Frenchman Mountain. The center is only the second regional aquatic complex the County has built. The Desert Breeze facility opened in the Southwest at Durango and Desert Inn in October 2001. The nearest similar public indoor swimming facilities are in Henderson's Whitney Ranch and in downtown Las Vegas. The center is a single-story, 7,300-square-foot facility with a mostly glass-enclosed indoor pool area that features a 10-lane competition pool, an instructional pool and a party room. The facility will hold high school swim competitions, swimming classes and other water exercise activities for all ages. The facility also includes an outdoor activity pool that is open to the public during the summer and features a beach-style entry with two waterslides, a lazy river, interactive play equipment, picnic space and a 17,000-square-foot pool deck. The facility was built with the environment in mind, using recycled building materials and local precuts. The aquatics center is located in the 21-acre Hollywood Park, which is popular with area residents and which has one of the valley's best views of the Las Vegas skyline. It features four softball fields, walking paths, picnic areas and more and is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Another 133 acres are available for future park development though no funding has been identified for that yet. A 40,000-square-foot community center is also on site, where there are a gymnasium and fitness, dance and exercise rooms. Rooms are available for special event rentals and neighborhood services offices are located there. Hollywood also features Clark County's largest concrete skate park at 29,000 square feet, designed for the advanced-level participant with some intermediate-level elements, including an 11-foot-deep kidney bowl and an 18-foot full pipe, plus a full plaza with a 10-stair step with rails, two fun boxes, two ledges and two six-stair steps. -

County Commissioners Steve Sisolak and Susan Brager recently joined other elected leaders and IKEA representatives to officially break ground on a new IKEA store coming to the southwest Las Vegas Valley in summer 2016. The 351,000 square-foot future IKEA Las Vegas, and 1,300 parking spaces, will be built on 26 acres along the northern side of Interstate-215 at Durango Drive, near Sunset Road. IKEA has contracted with R&O; Construction to build the project, and store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. In addition, IKEA will evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. goal of a renewable energy presence at nearly 90 percent of its U.S. locations. Hollywood Aquatic Center is First for Eastern Las Vegas Valley
Residents on the eastern half of the Las Vegas Valley are celebrating their first indoor aquatic center. Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, who represents the area, is joining residents and staff in March 2012 in dedicating the Hollywood Aquatic Center, which features indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides and a lazy river. It is located in Hollywood Regional Park at 1550 S. Hollywood Blvd., between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, in the foothills of Frenchman Mountain. The center is only the second regional aquatic complex the County has built. The Desert Breeze facility opened in the Southwest at Durango and Desert Inn in October 2001. Amazing Orbs Return To The Las Vegas Valley
This video was captured on a very windy night in the northern valley of Las Vegas, Nevada on the night of September 16, 2015. As you can tell from the video it was extremely windy but that didn't stop the amazing orbs from showing up and putting on a show and it didn't stop the night vision camera. I cannot see these orbs with binoculars or visually so I have to rely on my gut instinct on what to film when more than one event is happening at the same time. I chose to move off of the four orbs at the beginning of the video to follow two more that looked closer to my location in the hopes that there would be four of them as well. It may have been better to stick with the first four, but I will never know which choice was the best. Towards the end of the video, you will see two orbs make an... -

U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera on Sept. 26, 2015, gave his first reading in the Las Vegas Valley at the campus of Nevada State College in Henderson. The reading marked Herrera’s Nevada debut after being appointed the 21st U.S. Poet Laureate by the Library of Congress in June 2015. He earned an MFA at the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is the author of 28 books of poetry, novels for young adults and collections for children, most recently Portraits of Hispanic American Heroes (2014), a picture book. Christmas Trip to Las Vegas:: Valley Of Fire State Park
We took a day trip to Valley of Fire State Park, only an hour drive from Las Vegas. Beautiful red rocks, actually huge red mountains (from Floridian point of view), that hurt your eyes in our perfect day of hiking. Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs. Popular activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography. The park offers a full-scale visitor center with extensive interpretive displays. IKEA has contracted with R&O; Construction to build the project, and store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. In addition, IKEA will evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. goal of a renewable energy presence at nearly 90 percent of its U.S. locations. IKEA Las Vegas will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking. In addition to the more than 500 jobs that are expected to be created during the construction phase, about 300 coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens. The 351,000 square-foot future IKEA Las Vegas, and 1,300 parking spaces, will be built on 26 acres along the northern side of Interstate-215 at Durango Drive, near Sunset Road. IKEA has contracted with R&O; Construction to build the project, and store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. In addition, IKEA will evaluate potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. goal of a renewable energy presence at nearly 90 percent of its U.S. locations. IKEA Las Vegas will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store, and preferred parking. In addition to the more than 500 jobs that are expected to be created during the construction phase, about 300 coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens. Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, who represents the area, is joining residents and staff in March 2012 in dedicating the Hollywood Aquatic Center, which features indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides and a lazy river. It is located in Hollywood Regional Park at 1550 S. Hollywood Blvd., between Charleston Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, in the foothills of Frenchman Mountain. The center is only the second regional aquatic complex the County has built. The Desert Breeze facility opened in the Southwest at Durango and Desert Inn in October 2001. The nearest similar public indoor swimming facilities are in Henderson's Whitney Ranch and in downtown Las Vegas. The center is a single-story, 7,300-square-foot facility with a mostly glass-enclosed indoor pool area that features a 10-lane competition pool, an instructional pool and a party room. The facility will hold high school swim competitions, swimming classes and other water exercise activities for all ages. The facility also includes an outdoor activity pool that is open to the public during the summer and features a beach-style entry with two waterslides, a lazy river, interactive play equipment, picnic space and a 17,000-square-foot pool deck. The facility was built with the environment in mind, using recycled building materials and local precuts. The aquatics center is located in the 21-acre Hollywood Park, which is popular with area residents and which has one of the valley's best views of the Las Vegas skyline. It features four softball fields, walking paths, picnic areas and more and is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Another 133 acres are available for future park development though no funding has been identified for that yet. A 40,000-square-foot community center is also on site, where there are a gymnasium and fitness, dance and exercise rooms. Rooms are available for special event rentals and neighborhood services offices are located there. Hollywood also features Clark County's largest concrete skate park at 29,000 square feet, designed for the advanced-level participant with some intermediate-level elements, including an 11-foot-deep kidney bowl and an 18-foot full pipe, plus a full plaza with a 10-stair step with rails, two fun boxes, two ledges and two six-stair steps.

This video was captured on a very windy night in the northern valley of Las Vegas, Nevada on the night of September 16, 2015.
As you can tell from the video it was extremely windy but that didn't stop the amazing orbs from showing up and putting on a show and it didn't stop the night vision camera. I cannot see these orbs with binoculars or visually so I have to rely on my gut instinct on what to film when more than one event is happening at the same time. I chose to move off of the four orbs at the beginning of the video to follow two more that looked closer to my location in the hopes that there would be four of them as well. It may have been better to stick with the first four, but I will never know which choice was the best. Towards the end of the video, you will see two orbs make an impossible turn and eventually go behind the mountain. That would be about the 3:39 mark in the video. Look up high because a much smaller object is coming straight down. I didn't see it when I was filming or I would have allowed the camera to run a bit longer.

The reading marked Herrera’s Nevada debut after being appointed the 21st U.S. Poet Laureate by the Library of Congress in June 2015. He earned an MFA at the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is the author of 28 books of poetry, novels for young adults and collections for children, most recently Portraits of Hispanic American Heroes (2014), a picture book. His poetry books include “Half the World in Light” (University of Arizona Press) and “187 Reasons Mexicanos Can’t Cross the Border “ (City Lights). He is the first Hispanic poet to serve in the position. When his appointment was announced he said: "This is a mega-honor for me, for my family and my parents who came up north before and after the Mexican Revolution of 1910 — the honor is bigger than me.” Herrera’s reading was part of the “Poets of National Stature” program initiated by Bruce Isaacson, Las Vegas’ and Clark County’s first Poet Laureate. The program seeks to expand the knowledge and practice of poetry in Clark County. The reading was co-sponsored by Nevada State College and held the same week of the dedication of two new campus buildings, including a 250-seat theater, where the reading took place. Herrera was born in Fowler, Calif., in 1948. The son of migrant farm workers, he moved often, living in tents and trailers along the roads of Southern California, and attended school in small towns from San Francisco to San Diego. So we aren't in Canada no more! This weekend we actually escaped to Las Vegas so we are going to be spending three days just enjoying winter in the desert and doing cool stuff. And today we're walking down the strip and we're going to show you some of the sights. And the best part - no winter parka right now.
Enough walking for a while. I'm starving. Let's get some dinner. We're going to Shake Shack.
So when this buzzer goes it's time for me to get my food.
It's ready. It's ready. Go get it!
There is the man bringing food. Ooh la lah. I'm on a total health kick today. We've got a double burger, cheese fries, peanut butter shake and a root beer float.
When in Vegas.
I think I found my new favorite burger here at the Shake Shack.
They just do their patties to perfection over here.
Tell, me. Tell, me! You know what? Nobody does fast food like Americans. They've got it down to a science. It's absolutely unhealthy but so delicious.
We just found a jelly bean Statue of Liberty and I'm going to dare Sam five bucks to lick it.
So what did you find? I found the largest Hershey chocolate bar in the world. Really?
We're going to head back to the hotel and get ready for a show. We're going to be seeing the Michael Jackson Show at the Mandalay Bay but unfortunately we can't bring any cameras in there so we won' t be able to show you that but maybe after the show we'll hit the town again and show you the sights. Not maybe! Definitely!
It is so sad to be leaving but it is our last night in Las Vegas so we're going to go out and try and see as much as we can this evening. Let's go wild. Let's gamble.
Why are you at the ATM machine right now? We need some cash to fuel our gambling addiction.
It is never ending. The lights. The noise. The ding ding ding ding. This is what a casino sounds like twenty-four seven. We see people gambling here at like five in the morning when we get up for breakfast. And yes we do get up that early.
What would a trip to Vegas be like without a little gambling? Sam, even looks like an old gambler today with that hat. Oh, I do. Guess what? We're such cheapskates we're playing with pennies. We're going to the penny machine. They don't even have pennies in Canada anymore, so let's use these American pennies up.
Shiver me timbers. I'm playing a pirate game. I'm going to win me some money.
Tell us? Alright, I was a pretty lousy pirate, so I'm going to try my luck with this Owl game. Hoot! Hoot!
Ding ding ding ding ding. Being the supreme cheapskate that I am I'm cutting my loses after two dollars.
So we're here at the Bellagio for the water show. And they have a lot of frequent shows in the evening so we're just waiting for it to start.
So we are now at the Cosmopolitan and we are visiting one of the coolest bars in all of Las Vegas. This behind me is the Chandelier.

Las Vegas! Vegas, Baby! With a weekend to explore Las Vegas we arrived hitting the ground running wanting to pack in as much as we possibly could over a short period of time. Nigh life, music, gambling, entertainment, dancing, walking the Strip and shows in the evening. Driving luxury cars, helicopter tours, exploring the Grand Canyon and marveling at Red Rock Canyon by day. Las Vegas was full of surprises. The following is a Las Vegas travel guide to experience the most out of your vacation to Sin City. It is the best things to do on Las Vegas Strip along with day excursions outside of the city limits. As they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
So we aren't in Canada no more! This weekend we actually escaped to Las Vegas so we are going to be spending three days just enjoying winter in the desert and doing cool stuff. And today we're walking down the strip and we're going to show you some of the sights. And the best part - no winter parka right now.
Enough walking for a while. I'm starving. Let's get some dinner. We're going to Shake Shack.
So when this buzzer goes it's time for me to get my food.
It's ready. It's ready. Go get it!
There is the man bringing food. Ooh la lah. I'm on a total health kick today. We've got a double burger, cheese fries, peanut butter shake and a root beer float.
When in Vegas.
I think I found my new favorite burger here at the Shake Shack.
They just do their patties to perfection over here.
Tell, me. Tell, me! You know what? Nobody does fast food like Americans. They've got it down to a science. It's absolutely unhealthy but so delicious.
We just found a jelly bean Statue of Liberty and I'm going to dare Sam five bucks to lick it.
So what did you find? I found the largest Hershey chocolate bar in the world. Really?
We're going to head back to the hotel and get ready for a show. We're going to be seeing the Michael Jackson Show at the Mandalay Bay but unfortunately we can't bring any cameras in there so we won' t be able to show you that but maybe after the show we'll hit the town again and show you the sights. Not maybe! Definitely!
It is so sad to be leaving but it is our last night in Las Vegas so we're going to go out and try and see as much as we can this evening. Let's go wild. Let's gamble.
Why are you at the ATM machine right now? We need some cash to fuel our gambling addiction.
It is never ending. The lights. The noise. The ding ding ding ding. This is what a casino sounds like twenty-four seven. We see people gambling here at like five in the morning when we get up for breakfast. And yes we do get up that early.
What would a trip to Vegas be like without a little gambling? Sam, even looks like an old gambler today with that hat. Oh, I do. Guess what? We're such cheapskates we're playing with pennies. We're going to the penny machine. They don't even have pennies in Canada anymore, so let's use these American pennies up.
Shiver me timbers. I'm playing a pirate game. I'm going to win me some money.
Tell us? Alright, I was a pretty lousy pirate, so I'm going to try my luck with this Owl game. Hoot! Hoot!
Ding ding ding ding ding. Being the supreme cheapskate that I am I'm cutting my loses after two dollars.
So we're here at the Bellagio for the water show. And they have a lot of frequent shows in the evening so we're just waiting for it to start.
So we are now at the Cosmopolitan and we are visiting one of the coolest bars in all of Las Vegas. This behind me is the Chandelier.

The Venetian is the world's largest hotel with more than 6,600 spacious suites and a gondolier is on hand to transport visitors through a watery shopping mall as he graces them with an Italian love song.

If all your activity is limited to the Las Vegas Strip, then taking a walk along the Vegas strip is ideal. This is probably the best way to really enjoy the Vegas Strip. There is a lot to see and do. Remember, however, that the Strip is a little over 4 miles long, so plan accordingly
The one thing you must bring is the most comfortable pair of shoes you have. Make that two pairs! You are going to do more walking than you can even imagine. Shoes that are too high or tight will end your walk much sooner than you had planned.
Make regular stops. Rest whenever you can to avoid getting tired quickly, maybe get refreshments at shops along the way. Besides the mega resorts along the strip, there are a few Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy and McDonald's along the way
Take some water with you to avoid dehydration. Take as much as you can carry comfortably and plan to buy more along the way if you run out.
In the extremely hot Summer months, spend as little time outside as possible. You may actually want to reconsider walking during those months.
Remember to take a light sweater or jacket with you, even if it's sweltering hot outside. It may seem nice at first when you come in from the heat, but the casinos are kept at a constant temperature of 60 degrees. Not good, if you happen to be wearing a tank top and shorts.

If I had to pick one season that I think has the best weather in Las Vegas I would have to say that is the fall. The falls when the weather is very nice during the daytime and very nice during the night. You can wear jeans and a t-shirt during the day or shorts and a t-shirt during the day and you do not even need a jacket at night. The weather will be in the 70's during the day time it'll still be in the seventies and maybe in the 60's during the night. After the fall I would think that the spring is probably the next best time to be in Las Vegas. The spring weather is very nice as long as the wind does not pick up. After the spring you have to choose between the hot summer or the really cold winter. The summer is hot and dry and the winter is very cold and dry. It really is just a matter of which one you prefer. In the end I would say without a doubt that the fall is the best time of year to come and visit Las Vegas if you want to experience really good weather.

Nigh life, music, gambling, entertainment, dancing, walking the Strip and shows in the evening. Driving luxury cars, helicopter tours, exploring the Grand Canyon and marveling at Red Rock Canyon by day. Las Vegas was full of surprises. The following is a Las Vegas travel guide to experience the most out of your vacation to Sin City. It is the best things to do on Las Vegas Strip along with day excursions outside of the city limits. As they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
So we aren't in Canada no more! This weekend we actually escaped to Las Vegas so we are going to be spending three days just enjoying winter in the desert and doing cool stuff. And today we're walking down the strip and we're going to show you some of the sights. And the best part - no winter parka right now.
Enough walking for a while. I'm starving. Let's get some dinner. We're going to Shake Shack.
So when this buzzer goes it's time for me to get my food.
It's ready. It's ready. Go get it!
There is the man bringing food. Ooh la lah. I'm on a total health kick today. We've got a double burger, cheese fries, peanut butter shake and a root beer float.
When in Vegas.
I think I found my new favorite burger here at the Shake Shack.
They just do their patties to perfection over here.
Tell, me. Tell, me! You know what? Nobody does fast food like Americans. They've got it down to a science. It's absolutely unhealthy but so delicious.
We just found a jelly bean Statue of Liberty and I'm going to dare Sam five bucks to lick it.
So what did you find? I found the largest Hershey chocolate bar in the world. Really?
We're going to head back to the hotel and get ready for a show. We're going to be seeing the Michael Jackson Show at the Mandalay Bay but unfortunately we can't bring any cameras in there so we won' t be able to show you that but maybe after the show we'll hit the town again and show you the sights. Not maybe! Definitely!
It is so sad to be leaving but it is our last night in Las Vegas so we're going to go out and try and see as much as we can this evening. Let's go wild. Let's gamble.
Why are you at the ATM machine right now? We need some cash to fuel our gambling addiction.
It is never ending. The lights. The noise. The ding ding ding ding. This is what a casino sounds like twenty-four seven. We see people gambling here at like five in the morning when we get up for breakfast. And yes we do get up that early.
What would a trip to Vegas be like without a little gambling? Sam, even looks like an old gambler today with that hat. Oh, I do. Guess what? We're such cheapskates we're playing with pennies. We're going to the penny machine. They don't even have pennies in Canada anymore, so let's use these American pennies up.
Shiver me timbers. I'm playing a pirate game. I'm going to win me some money.
Tell us? Alright, I was a pretty lousy pirate, so I'm going to try my luck with this Owl game. Hoot! Hoot!
Ding ding ding ding ding. Being the supreme cheapskate that I am I'm cutting my loses after two dollars.
So we're here at the Bellagio for the water show. And they have a lot of frequent shows in the evening so we're just waiting for it to start.
So we are now at the Cosmopolitan and we are visiting one of the coolest bars in all of Las Vegas. This behind me is the Chandelier.

There’s an app called “Hotel Tonight” which provides users with last minute deals at top-rated hotels. You can book up to 7 days out or even the day you plan to travel.

Flying can set you back a couple hundred bucks if you don’t do your research. So, if you are in a pinch and need to get to Vegas fast and on a dime, you might want to check out travel sites such as travelocity, expedia, orbitz, priceline and jetsetter.

Water is in in short supply in Nevada, so plan to bring or buy water for your hotel room. Vegas establishments can and will charge you for water. They sometimes charge up to $10.00 for a bottle of water. Remember, hydration is key… especially in the desert.

You can and should always use the internet to look up good monthly promotions when planning your Las Vegas trip. You can get the attention of multiple promoters by posting pictures to social media and using hashtags related to vegas, or by following vegas accounts on twitter to get news about nightly deals, performances,pool parties, etc.
Of course you need to keep your whits about you and your safety is top priority in Vegas, so don’t let the lights and the glitz and the glam get too into your head.
