Punakha (Tibetan alphabet: སྤུ་ན་ཁ་ ) is the administrative centre of Punakha dzongkhag, one of the 20 districts of Bhutan. Punakha was the capital of Bhutan and the seat of government until 1955, when the capital was moved to Thimphu. It is about 72 km away from Thimphu and it takes about 3 hours by car from the capital Thimphu. Unlike Thimphu it is quite warm in winter and hot in summer. It is located at an elevation of 1,200 metres above sea level and rice is grown as the main crop along the river valleys of two main rivers of Bhutan, the Pho Chu and Mo Chu. Dzongkha is widely spoken in this district.
Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness) or Punakha Dzong was constructed by Tuebi Zaow Balip under the great command of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637 and believed to have been completed in two years of time period. It is also the country's most beautiful Dzong. It is the winter residence of Bhutan's Central Monastic Body led by HH the Je Khenpo. The Dzong houses the most sacred relics of the Southern Drukpa Kagyu school including the Rangjung Kasarpani, and the sacred remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and Terton Padma Lingpa.
In 1907, Bhutan's first King, Ugyen Wangchuck, was crowned in Punakha Dzong the Fortress-Monastery. Punakha was Bhutan's capital until 1955. The Fortress-Monastery - Punakha Dzong is an impressive massive structure situated strategically at the confluence of two rivers - Pho Chu (father) and Mo Chu (mother). The rivers Pho Chu & Mo Chu join to form the Sankosh river which after crossing the Bhutan-India border flows into the Brahmaputra river.
In 3 days the Taktsang Tiger's Nest Monastery, Paro, Thimphu and Punakha Dzong.
Punakha is a relatively low altitude valley (Approx. 1200m above sea level) and therefore it has hot summers. The drive goes through Dochula – a mountain pass at 10,300’ with a cluster of 108 Chortens being of prime tourist attraction. The place gives a panoramic view of Himalayan peaks in clear weather. The tourists take a coffee break and snack up in cold weather at Druk Wanghyal Restaurant. A climb to Druk Wanghyal Lakhang monastery is rewarding in getting a bird’s eye view of Dochula. Arriving at fringes of Punakha the river meandering in Punakha valley looks magnificent. A break at picturesque Lobesa village for meals amidst scenic surroundings is enjoyable.

I'm lyin' here on the floor where you left me
I think, I took too much
I'm cryin' here, what have you done?
I thought it would be fun
I can't stay on your life support, there's a shortage in the switch
I can't stay on your morphine, 'cuz its makin' me itch
I said, I tried to call the nurse again but she's being a little bitch
I think I'll get outta here, where I can
Run just as fast as I can
To the middle of nowhere
To the middle of my frustrated fears
And I swear you're just like a pill
Instead of makin' me better, you keep makin' me ill
You keep makin' me ill
I haven't moved from the spot where you left me
This must be a bad trip
All of the other pills, they were different
Maybe I should get some help
I can't stay on your life support, there's a shortage in the switch
I can't stay on your morphine, 'cuz its makin' me itch
I said, I tried to call the nurse again but she's being a little bitch
I think I'll get outta here, where I can
Run just as fast as I can
To the middle of nowhere
To the middle of my frustrated fears
And I swear you're just like a pill
Instead of makin' me better, you keep makin' me ill
You keep makin' me ill
Run just as fast as I can
To the middle of nowhere
To the middle of my frustrated fears
And I swear you're just like a pill
Instead of makin' me better, you keep makin' me ill
You keep makin' me ill

To the middle of my frustrated fears
(Frustrated, frustrated fears)
And I swear you're just like a pill
Instead of makin' me better, you keep makin' me ill
You keep makin' me ill
Run just as fast as I can
To the middle of nowhere
To the middle of my frustrated fears
