Driving in from the outskirts, having descended from Dochula pass, one can see Thimphu town on the true right bank of the Thimphu Chhu river, as one descends on the true left bank, passing through the new part of town. we wonder why such a long stretch of the road has been fenced in - is it to prevent garbage being thrown into the river? As one crosses the Thimphu Chhu, one gets into the center of town on the true right bank. Drive through the heart of Bhutan, through the town and finally land up outside Hotel Druk in the center square. Parked cars have their blinkers on, as it's getting to be dark. In founding the site it is said that Lama Kunley subdued a demon of Dochu La with his "magic thunderbolt of wisdom" and trapped it in a rock at the location close to where the chorten now stands. He was known as the "Mad Saint" or "Divine Madman" for his unorthodox ways of teaching Buddhism by singing, humour and outrageous behaviour, which amounted to being bizarre, shocking and with sexual overtones. It was strapped to the back of the car for the journey home. Also picked up the main 36V solenoid for a friends 1993 Ez-Go Marathon golf cart. RCA TV is Model CJ335W Chassis KCS159 23HFP4A CRT.
