Fred Kohler (April 20, 1888 – October 28, 1938) was an American actor.
Fred Kohler was born in Kansas City, Missouri. As a teen, he began to pursue a career in vaudeville, but worked other jobs to support himself. He lost part of his right hand in a mining accident during this time. Eventually he was able to join a touring company, and worked steadily in show business for several years.
America's budding film industry drew a 20-something Kohler to Hollywood, where he made his start in silent films. His first role was in the 1911 short The Code of Honor, and he had an uncredited role in Cecil B. DeMille's feature film Joan the Woman (1917), but a steady stream of parts did not begin until The Tiger's Trail (1919).
Kohler's stern features earned him a niche playing villains. His role as Bauman in The Iron Horse (1924) is a notable example. With the advent of the talkies, Kohler reprised many of his silent roles in remakes with sound, particularly in Westerns based on novels by Zane Grey.
Fred Kohler, Jr. was an American actor who performed in a number of Westerns such as The Pecos Kid and Toll of the Desert.
Kohler's father was actor Fred Kohler.
Kohler and his father appeared twice in the same film. In RKO's Lawless Valley, they played outlaws who were father and son and in one scene, Fred Kohler, Jr. says to his father's character "Aw, that's crazy!," and Fred Sr. responds "Careful, son, you're talkin' to your dad, ya know!"
Roger Williams (c. 1603 – between January and March 1683) was a Puritan, an English Reformed theologian and later a Reformed Baptist, who was an early proponent of religious freedom and the separation of church and state.
He was expelled by the Puritan leaders because they thought he was spreading "new and dangerous ideas", so in 1636, he began the colony of Providence Plantation, which provided a refuge for religious minorities. Williams was a member of the first Baptist church in America, the First Baptist Church of Providence.
Williams was also a student of Native American languages, an early advocate for fair dealings with Native Americans, and arguably the first abolitionist in North America, having organized the first attempt to prohibit slavery in any of the British American colonies.
Roger Williams was born in London around 1603; however, the exact date has not been established by scholars because his birth records were destroyed in the Great Fire of London of 1666 when St. Sepulchre's Church burned. His father, James Williams (1562–1620), was a merchant tailor in Smith field, England; his mother was Alice Pemberton (1564–1635). At an early age, Williams had a spiritual conversion of which his father disapproved.
The Pecos Kid is a 1935 American Western film directed by Harry L. Fraser.
Land Baron James Grayson and his gang steal the Pecos' family Rancho and kill the male adults, leaving young Donald still alive. Years later, Donald re-appears as the Pecos Kid to face down Grayson and his gang to get his family land back, along with a gold mine.
Ruth Findlay (19 September 1896 – 13 July 1949) was an American stage actress active over the early decades of the twentieth century.
Findlay was born on 19 September 1896 in The Heights, a neighborhood of Jersey City, New Jersey. Her parents were John and Margaret Findlay, both originally from Scotland. Her father, a character actor known for his portrayal of butlers and priests, was born in Glasgow with the surname Macpherson.
Findlay was raised in New York City where she attended private schools and first appeared on stage at around the age of twelve in Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch and later Baby Mine at Daly’s Theatre. Her first major role came a few years later in a road production of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and in 1917 found success playing Marguerite in A Successful Calamity at Broadway’s Booth Theatre. In November 1920 the diminutive 5’2” actress began a seven month run at Booth Theatre playing the dual roles, Tom Canty and Prince Edward, in The Prince and the Pauper. Ruth Findlay’s last Broadway performances were playing Deborah Hawks in the 1941/42 production of The Land Is Bright at the Music Box Theatre. Over the early years of her acting career Findlay appeared in at least six silent films all produced before 1920. Her most notable film performance may have been as Dora Baxter in The Salamander (1916), a film based on the 1913 novel by Owen Johnson. A short list of artist she worked with over her career would include William Gillette, William Farnum, Eugene Obrien, Lionel Barrymore and William Faversham.
