Chicago Cubs win World Series Game 6 Tampa Bay Rays MLB 2K11 2011 XBOX 360 season Part 1

Despite a stellar 84-20 regular season baseball campaign, with the AL having home field advantage, the Rays put the Cubs into a 0-2 World Series hole by beating them 3-0 and then 3-2. Losing pitchers were Ryan Dempster and Jeff Samardzija. The Cubs for Game 3, with Matt Garza on the call to the mound, took charge and with some great offensive firepower, the Cubs scored 5 runs. Garza was flawless, allowing only 1 run in the fall classic. The series was then tied 2-2 in Game 4 when the Cubs torched the Rays 5-2 with Andrew Cashner picking up the victory. Game 5, played at Wrigley, featured Ryan Dempster again, and this time, Ryan brought his A-game and the Cubs blanked the Rays 4-0. Jeff Samardzija got the call to the hill for Game 6 at Tropicana Field. With a 1-0 lead in the 5th inning and 2 outs, right outfielder Will Venable's decisive 3-run home run put the game away for good and they never looked back. With a commanding 6-1 lead going into the 8th inning in Game 6, the Cubs elected to use Matt Garza (he was slotted to pitch in a potential Game 7). But Garza could not get a single out and eventually setup hurler Sean Marshall bailed the team to secure the third out in the 8th. Cubs closer, Carlos Marmol, entered the game in the 9th inning with 1 out, and despite some base hits, base runners and nervous Cubs fans, he recorded the save and the Cubs won the World Series when second baseman Darwin Barney scooped up the ground ball and threw to Pena for the game-winning final out. Other game notes: Catcher Geovany Soto and left outfielder Alfonso Soriano also batted in home runs in Game 6. First baseman, Carlos Pena, scored a triple. In the regular season, Randy Wells was the fifth starting pitcher. In the playoffs, he was used primarily as a reliever when the Cubs switched to a 4-man pitching rotation. Chris Carpenter, a dependable relief pitcher for the entire baseball season, was also outstanding coming out of the bullpen in several playoff appearances. Aramis Ramirez was on the DL in the playoffs. He was hit by a pitch in September and could not be healthy enough to play in the World Series. Blake Dewitt assumed third base duty for the remainder of the season and the postseason. Outfielder Will Venable was obtained early in the season with a trade for pitcher Carlos Zambrano. Venable won the NL MVP. Alfonso Soriano was the World Series MVP with 8 home runs in the postseason.
