Abandoned Places: A Time for Heroes is a role-playing video game for Amiga and the PC (DOS) in which four heroes must save their world, Kalynthia. A sequel, Abandoned Places 2, was released in 1993.

Plot

The game begins with four heroes, selected to fight the evil Bronakh, emerging from a rock that has been their prison for 900 years. The player starts beneath the 'Temple of Heaven's Light' and must escape to the surface while arming the party.

The world is an open-ended sandbox where the decision to go next is left up to the player. Health is indicated by the portraits at the bottom of the screen, and attack patterns vary depending on the specialty of the character and where they are placed in the party.

Steel buildings first gained popularity in the early 20th century. Their use became more widespread during World War II and significantly expanded after the war when steel became more available. Steel buildings have been widely accepted, in part due to cost efficiency.
