Giant Salamander Emerges from River in Japan. In Kyoto Japan, bystanders were surprised by the appearance of a giant creature. This strange animal was discovered on a footpath along the Kamo River where it must have come from. It is a Japanese Giant Salamander and is considerably rare to witness, especially since they make their home underwater and are only active at night. Check out the video to find out more about this slimy amphibian and why it may have turned up here.

Axolotl: Cool Cute Aquarium Mexican Salamander
Axolotl also known as Mexican salamander
or Mexican walking fish, is a neotenic salamander,
closely related to the tiger salamander.
Although the axolotl is colloquially known as
a "walking fish", it is not a fish, but an amphibian.
The species originates from numerous lakes,
such as Lake Xochimilcounderlying Mexico City.
Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they
reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis.
Instead of developing lungs and taking to land,
the adults remain aquatic and gilled.
A sexually mature adult axolotl,
at age 18–24 months, ranges in length from 15–45 cm,
although a size close to 23 cm is most common and
greater than 30 cm is rare.
Their heads are wide, and their eyes are lidless.
Their limbs are underdeveloped and possess long,
thin digits. Males are identified by their swollen cloacae
lined with papillae, while females are noticeable for
their wider bodies full of eggs.
Three pairs of external gill stalks originate behind their
heads and are used to move oxygenated water.
The external gill rami are lined with filaments to
increase surface area for gas exchange.
Four gill slits lined with gill rakers are hidden
underneath the external gills.
Axolotls have barely visible vestigial teeth,
which would have developed during metamorphosis.
The primary method of feeding is by suction,
during which their rakers interlock to close the gill slits.
External gills are used for respiration,
although buccal pumping may also be used to provide
oxygen to their lungs. Axolotls have four different colours,
including two mutant colors. The two normal
colors are "wildtype" and melanoid.
The two mutant colors are leucistic (pale pink with black eyes)
and albino (golden, tan or pale pink with pink eyes).

As many of you know, most salamanders spawn, hatch, grow, and mate in vernal pools. In this video, I show you a Tiger salamander vernal pool near Denver. The salamanders I catch here are adults spawning. About three to five weeks after this video was filmed, tiny salamanders began to show up. Eventually, they undergo metamorphasis and become juvenile salamanders. After these salamanders lose their gills, they will stay in the vernal pools until the enter adulthood. For some it might be very quick, for others it might take as long as a year. In colorado, this cycle begins in march and ends in august or september. Dont forget to like, subscribe, and comment.

Salamander is a common name of approximately 550 extant species of amphibians. They are typically characterized by a superficially lizard-like appearance, with their slender bodies, short noses, and long tails. All known fossil salamanders and all extinct species fall under the order Caudata, while sometimes the extant species are grouped together as the Urodela. Most salamanders have four toes on their front legs and five on their rear legs. Their moist skin usually makes them reliant on habitats in or near water, or under some protection (e.g., moist ground), often in a wetland. Some salamander species are fully aquatic throughout life, some take to the water intermittently, and some are entirely terrestrial as adults. Unique among vertebrates, they are capable of regenerating lost limbs, as well as other body parts. Many of the members of the family Salamandridae are known as newts.
The earliest known salamander fossils have been found in geological deposits of China and Kazakhstan, which have been dated to the middle Jurassic period, up to 164 million (plus or minus 4 million) years ago.

As many of you know, most salamanders spawn, hatch, grow, and mate in vernal pools. In this video, I show you a Tiger salamander vernal pool near Denver. The salamanders I catch here are adults spawning. About three to five weeks after this video was filmed, tiny salamanders began to show up. Eventually, they undergo metamorphasis and become juvenile salamanders. After these salamanders lose their gills, they will stay in the vernal pools until the enter adulthood. Axolotl also known as Mexican salamander
or Mexican walking fish, is a neotenic salamander,
closely related to the tiger salamander.
Although the axolotl is colloquially known as
a "walking fish", it is not a fish, but an amphibian.
The species originates from numerous lakes,
such as Lake Xochimilcounderlying Mexico City.
Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they
reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis.
Instead of developing lungs and taking to land,
the adults remain aquatic and gilled.
A sexually mature adult axolotl,
at age 18–24 months, ranges in length from 15–45 cm,
although a size close to 23 cm is most common and
greater than 30 cm is rare.
Their heads are wide, and their eyes are lidless.
Their limbs are underdeveloped and possess long,
thin digits. Males are identified by their swollen cloacae
lined with papillae, while females are noticeable for
their wider bodies full of eggs.
Three pairs of external gill stalks originate behind their
heads and are used to move oxygenated water.
The external gill rami are lined with filaments to
increase surface area for gas exchange.
Four gill slits lined with gill rakers are hidden
underneath the external gills.
Axolotls have barely visible vestigial teeth,
which would have developed during metamorphosis.
The primary method of feeding is by suction,
during which their rakers interlock to close the gill slits.
External gills are used for respiration,
although buccal pumping may also be used to provide
oxygen to their lungs. Axolotls have four different colours,
including two mutant colors. The two normal
colors are "wildtype" and melanoid.

As many of you know, most salamanders spawn, hatch, grow, and mate in vernal pools. In this video, I show you a Tiger salamander vernal pool near Denver. The salamanders I catch here are adults spawning. About three to five weeks after this video was filmed, tiny salamanders began to show up. Eventually, they undergo metamorphasis and become juvenile salamanders. After these salamanders lose their gills, they will stay in the vernal pools until the enter adulthood. For some it might be very quick, for others it might take as long as a year. In colorado, this cycle begins in march and ends in august or september. Dont forget to like, subscribe, and comment.

Let other people have cats and dogs! Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as complicated as you might think. In this video, he shares six tips about caring for a tiger salamander or a fire salamander.
Often, the quest for a reptile pet companion is because you want to have that wow factor in your house and you want to buy that giant lizard, giant snake. Sometimes it might be a mistake, because they get way too big. But a Salamander is an easy to keep animal that is a great choice when it comes to wanting something that's got the wow factor.
Here, I have a pair of Tiger salamanders. Simple set up if you want to keep these in captivity. They like a lot of space. They like to go under the ground. They're actually called from the Mole salamander family where they'll live underneath the ground in a very, very moist, like side of the riverbank type of environment.
But in captivity they show their face a lot more than they do in the wild. And they often come out to the top of the substrate to feed. So, earthworms, any kind of insect, even baby mice are the prey and the food for a captive salamander.
Salamanders are slimy. They don't tolerate really a lot of handling. The way to do it, really, is to hold them underneath and not wipe your finger across the top of them. Just the oils on your fingers is enough to irritate them. And they like to keep that little sliminess to them in order to stay healthy. They'll get every bit of 10 inches when they're full grown and are long-lived as well.
My only caution on these is that in the wild some places they're very, very threatened, endangered, therefore, protected. So, please check your local laws before you buy one. And don't order one online and have it shipped into your neighborhood. It may be illegal where you live. The Tiger salamander and salamanders in general make awesome starter pets and have that wow factor, again, because of their immense size and their voracious appetite. The Tiger Salamander.

Here, I have a pair of Tiger salamanders. Simple set up if you want to keep these in captivity. They like a lot of space. They like to go under the ground. They're actually called from the Mole salamander family where they'll live underneath the ground in a very, very moist, like side of the riverbank type of environment.
But in captivity they show their face a lot more than they do in the wild. And they often come out to the top of the substrate to feed. So, earthworms, any kind of insect, even baby mice are the prey and the food for a captive salamander.
Salamanders are slimy. They don't tolerate really a lot of handling. The way to do it, really, is to hold them underneath and not wipe your finger across the top of them. Just the oils on your fingers is enough to irritate them. And they like to keep that little sliminess to them in order to stay healthy. They'll get every bit of 10 inches when they're full grown and are long-lived as well.
My only caution on these is that in the wild some places they're very, very threatened, endangered, therefore, protected. So, please check your local laws before you buy one. And don't order one online and have it shipped into your neighborhood. It may be illegal where you live. The Tiger salamander and salamanders in general make awesome starter pets and have that wow factor, again, because of their immense size and their voracious appetite. The Tiger Salamander.
