In 1963, Jaguar unveiled a lightened, racing version of its E-type sports car. Powered by an aluminium-block 3.8-litre straight six engine, the sports cars were at the cutting edge of racing technology. Of the planned 18 units, just 12 were ever built, leaving six original chassis numbers set aside.
In 2014, Jaguar Land Rover's Special Operations Division took up the project again, creating six 'new' Lightweight E-types to the exact specifications of the original. With each car costing over £1,000,000 every detail had to be perfect. So have they done the job? Steve Cropley drives the new Lightweight E-type.

THE JAGUAR E-TYPE (1961)
The Jaguar E-Type is a British sports car, which was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring.
At a time when most cars had drum brakes, live rear axles, and mediocre performance, the E-Type sprang on the scene with 150 mph and a sub-7 second 0-60 time, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, independent front and rear suspension, and unrivaled looks.
Motor magazine road tested a UK spec E-Type 4.2 fixed head coupe in Oct 1964. The maximum speed was 150 mph (241 km/h), the 0-60 mph time was 7 seconds and the 1⁄4 mile time was 14.9 seconds.They summarised it as "The new 4.2 supersedes the early 3.8 as the fastest car Motor has tested. The absurd ease which 100 mph can be exceeded in a 1⁄4 mile never failed to astonish. 3,000 miles of testing confirms that this is still one of the worlds outstanding cars".
WHAT MAKES IT GREAT… In 2011, when the Jaguar E-Type had its 50th anniversary. Jeremy Clarkson described the car as ‘the essence of British brilliance’.
TIME WARP… The E-Type was based on Jaguar's own famed racer, the Type D, which had won the world's most prestigious sports-car race for three consecutive years (1955-1957).

Restoration video of a Series II Jaguar E-Type. The restoration took two and a half years, thousands of hours of labor, and much, much more $$. The Jag was last licensed in 1983 and spent the last 15 years outside with a deteriorated car cover. This was a nut and bolt restoration. Everything was rebuilt or replaced. Every motor, caliper, assembly, etc. was dissassembled and rebuilt.

Recreating a factory race car from the 1960s is no simple task—for Jason Len and his 1964 Jaguar E-Type, the challenges were no different. The hours and materials to build something of this magnitude far exceed any dollar amount that could be recouped from the finished car's sale, but this is irrelevant for Jason. To him, the idea of owning and recreating this car is simply about chasing a dream. He devoted his life to Jaguars, so when it came to deciding whether or not to build the car, there was no other choice that could be made. Beyond its glorious engine notes and inspiring visual presence, this car enjoys something that very few cars are allowed: a furiously fast pilot. After purchasing this car over 30 years ago, this E-type has never looked—or driven—better.

James Douglas Muir "Jay" Leno /ˈlɛnoʊ/ (born April 28, 1950) is an American stand-up comedian and television host.
From 1992 to 2009, Leno was the host of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Beginning in September 2009, Leno started a primetime talk show, titled The Jay Leno Show, which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. (Eastern Time, UTC-5), also on NBC. After The Jay Leno Show was canceled in January 2010 amid a host controversy, Leno returned to host The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 1, 2010.
James "Jay" Leno was born in New Rochelle, New York, in 1950. His mother, Catherine (née Muir; 1911–1993), a homemaker, was born in Greenock, Scotland, and came to the United States at age 11. Leno's father, Angelo (1910–1994), who worked as an insurance salesman, was born in New York to immigrants from Flumeri, Italy. Leno grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, and although his high school guidance counselor recommended that he drop out of school, he later obtained a Bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson College, where he started a comedy club in 1973. Leno's siblings include his late older brother, Patrick, who was a Vietnam veteran and a lawyer.

THE JAGUAR E-TYPE (1961) The Jaguar E-Type is a British sports car, which was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. At a time when most cars had drum brakes, live rear axles, and mediocre performance, the E-Type sprang on the scene with 150 mph and a sub-7 second 0-60 time, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, independent front and rear suspension, and unrivaled looks. Motor magazine road tested a UK spec E-Type 4.2 fixed head coupe in Oct 1964. Recreating a factory race car from the 1960s is no simple task—for Jason Len and his 1964 Jaguar E-Type, the challenges were no different. The hours and materials to build something of this magnitude far exceed any dollar amount that could be recouped from the finished car's sale, but this is irrelevant for Jason. To him, the idea of owning and recreating this car is simply about chasing a dream. The Jaguar E-Type is a British sports car, which was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring.
At a time when most cars had drum brakes, live rear axles, and mediocre performance, the E-Type sprang on the scene with 150 mph and a sub-7 second 0-60 time, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, independent front and rear suspension, and unrivaled looks.
Motor magazine road tested a UK spec E-Type 4.2 fixed head coupe in Oct 1964. The maximum speed was 150 mph (241 km/h), the 0-60 mph time was 7 seconds and the 1⁄4 mile time was 14.9 seconds.They summarised it as "The new 4.2 supersedes the early 3.8 as the fastest car Motor has tested. The absurd ease which 100 mph can be exceeded in a 1⁄4 mile never failed to astonish. 3,000 miles of testing confirms that this is still one of the worlds outstanding cars".
WHAT MAKES IT GREAT… In 2011, when the Jaguar E-Type had its 50th anniversary. Jeremy Clarkson described the car as ‘the essence of British brilliance’.
TIME WARP… The E-Type was based on Jaguar's own famed racer, the Type D, which had won the world's most prestigious sports-car race for three consecutive years (1955-1957).

Recreating a factory race car from the 1960s is no simple task—for Jason Len and his 1964 Jaguar E-Type, the challenges were no different. The hours and materials to build something of this magnitude far exceed any dollar amount that could be recouped from the finished car's sale, but this is irrelevant for Jason. To him, the idea of owning and recreating this car is simply about chasing a dream. He devoted his life to Jaguars, so when it came to deciding whether or not to build the car, there was no other choice that could be made. Beyond its glorious engine notes and inspiring visual presence, this car enjoys something that very few cars are allowed: a furiously fast pilot. After purchasing this car over 30 years ago, this E-type has never looked—or driven—better.

The E-Type is a sportscar of Jaguar. 3 generations were built between 1961 and 1974. This is a 1969 E-Type of te 2nd generation. The car har beautiful red paint, chrome wire wheels, black softtop and black leather interior. The car is fully restored and in a beautiful condition. The matching numbers 4235CC 6 cyl engine is fully revised and in excellent condition. How to rebuild SU carburetors - Jaguar E-type, MG, Triumph, other British Cars
This is how to rebuild SU carburetors, which are used on all sorts of British cars and bikes from the 1950's and 1960's. This particular one is from a Jaguar XKE, but rebuilding any other SU is pretty much identical. My qualifications: For one year (30 years ago) I was a mechanic in a shop that specialized in repair of old Jaguars. I rebuilt many SU carburetors. When it came time to rebuild the carburetors in my own E-type, I decided to shoot a video to share the process with others. I will soon post a video on how to adjust SU's. It's not very hard, but it's much easier to do once someone shows you the process. -

This is how to rebuild SU carburetors, which are used on all sorts of British cars and bikes from the 1950's and 1960's.
This particular one is from a Jaguar XKE, but rebuilding any other SU is pretty much identical.
My qualifications: For one year (30 years ago) I was a mechanic in a shop that specialized in repair of old Jaguars. I rebuilt many SU carburetors. When it came time to rebuild the carburetors in my own E-type, I decided to shoot a video to share the process with others.
I will soon post a video on how to adjust SU's. It's not very hard, but it's much easier to do once someone shows you the process.
