City of Gold or Cities of Gold may refer to:
City of Gold and other stories from the Old Testament is a collection of 33 Old Testament Bible stories retold for children by Peter Dickinson, illustrated by Michael Foreman, and published by Gollancz in 1980. The British Library Association awarded Dickinson his second Carnegie Medal recognising the year's outstanding children's book by a British subject and highly commended Foreman for the companion Kate Greenaway Medal.
City of Gold is a "radical" retelling of Bible stories, according to the retrospective online Carnegie Medal citation. "It is set in a time before the Bible was written down, when its stories were handed from generation to generation by the spoken word."
U.S. editions by Pantheon Books (New York, 1980) and Otter Books (Boston, 1992) retained Foreman's illustrations.
Dickinson described the origin and development of particular story books to the Children's Literature Association when he received the retrospective Phoenix Award for Eva in 2008. With City of Gold, for instance, he was "asked to re-tell the stories of the Old Testament, which I did in the different voices of different people telling the stories for specific purposes while they still existed only in the oral tradition." The request and its deliberate fulfillment place the book near the "commissioned" end of the spectrum. Some others "begin with only what you might call the idea of an idea, a hunch, that there might be a book in them thar hills".
City of Gold was the fifth album made by American psychedelic folk group Pearls Before Swine, and their third on Reprise Records. It was released in 1971.
The album was the first to be credited to "Thos." (Tom) Rapp and Pearls Before Swine, rather than solely in the group's name. In fact, the group, which had been formed by Rapp and his friends in Florida in the mid-1960s, and which in its original incarnation had never performed live, had effectively ceased to exist by the time of their third album These Things Too, and subsequent albums had been recorded by Rapp with his wife Elisabeth and session musicians.
City of Gold drew heavily on material left over from the recording of the previous Pearls album, The Use of Ashes, which had been recorded in early 1970 with the cream of Nashville's session musicians. Further recording sessions took place in New York later that year, with Rapp taking on producer duties.
The album, while having a broadly country/folk feel, is very mixed in content and, in most critics' estimation, quality. However, it does contain some of Rapp's best lyrics, sparkling arrangements, and some of his most heartfelt vocal performances, such as on the harpsichord-dominated version of Leonard Cohen's "(Seems So Long Ago) Nancy", and his own "Did You Dream Of". It also includes a very atypical up-tempo Rapp song, "The Man", sung vigorously by David Noyes. According to Noyes, a high school student at the time, the song was recorded at A&R Studios in New York City during the summer of 1969; Noyes also sang harmony vocals on other songs, including "Seasons In The Sun". Noyes' friend, Jon Tooker, took his position when the band toured Europe later in the year.
City of Gold is a 1957 Canadian documentary film by Colin Low and Wolf Koenig, chronicling Dawson City during the Klondike Gold Rush. The film is narrated by Pierre Berton and produced by the National Film Board of Canada.
City of Gold made innovative use of archival photos, combining narration, music and camera movements to bring drama to these still images. Its innovative use of still photography in this manner has been cited by Ken Burns as an inspiration for the so-called Ken Burns effect.
Winner of the Palme d'or for best short film at the 1957 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award.
Winner of the award for film of the year at the 10th Canadian Film Awards, June 21, 1958.

A lost city is a settlement that fell into terminal decline and became extensively or completely uninhabited. The locations of many lost cities have been forgotten, but some have been rediscovered and studied extensively by scientists. Recently abandoned cities or cities whose location was never in question might be referred to as ruins or ghost towns. The search for such lost cities by European explorers and adventurers in Africa, the Americas, and Southeast Asia from the 15th century onwards eventually led to the development of archaeology.
Lost cities generally fall into two broad categories: those where no knowledge of the city existed until the time of their rediscovery, and those whose locations have been lost, but knowledge of their existence has been retained in myths, legends, or historical records.
Cities may become lost for a variety of reasons including natural disasters, economic or social upheaval, or war.
The Incan capital city of Vilcabamba was destroyed and depopulated during the Spanish conquest of Peru in 1572. The Spanish did not rebuild the city, and the location went unrecorded and was forgotten until it was rediscovered through a detailed examination of period letters and documents.
In the popular imagination, a lost city is a real, once prosperous and well-populated area of human habitation that fell into terminal decline and whose location was later forgotten.
Lost City, The Lost City, or Lost Cities may also refer to:
"Lost City" is the two-part finale to the seventh season of the science fiction television show Stargate SG-1. It was originally intended to be a second Stargate film, and was then to be the show's absolute finale, and finally ended up being the seventh season finale after the series was renewed. "Lost City" served as an introduction to Stargate Atlantis and the events portrayed were followed up in the Atlantis premiere "Rising" as well as in SG-1's own "New Order". "Lost City" also featured special guest star Chief of Staff of the Air Force John P. Jumper as himself. This episode was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series and for a Gemini Award in the category Best Visual Effects.
Daniel Jackson discovers a Repository of the Ancients on P3X-439. However, Anubis has also discovered its location, and SG-1 must destroy the Repository to keep it out of his hands. Knowing the information contained inside might be Earth's only defense against Anubis, Jack O'Neill interfaces with the device, knowing the Ancient knowledge will eventually kill him. In Washington, D.C., new President Henry Hayes calls upon Dr. Elizabeth Weir, an expert in international politics, to replace General George Hammond for a three-month review. Vice President Robert Kinsey approaches Weir, expressing in no uncertain terms the undesirability of interfering with his agenda.

This classic short film from Pierre Berton depicts the Klondike gold rush at its peak, when would-be prospectors struggled through harsh conditions to reach the fabled gold fields over 3000 km north of civilization. Using a collection of still photographs, the film juxtaposes the Dawson City at the height of the gold rush with its bustling taverns and dance halls with the more tranquil Dawson City of the present. City of Gold or Cities of Gold may refer to:
Deep down underneath all this metal and concrete
Is a world that we all left behind
And I've got a pick
And I've got a shovel
I'm gonna dig it up in time
And underneath this street grows a grass tall and green
All it needs is some sunlight
And if you will help me break up this concrete
I know we'll dig it up in time
And we'll burn down the towns
Mix their ashes with the ground
To make our soil rich and black
And we'll plant some seeds
And we'll grow tall trees
And we'll take our old world back
Deep down inside all those jerks that pass you by
And yell at you when you're on your bike
There's a heart in there somewhere
Buried down I swear
I'm gonna dig it up in time
And inside every cop is a hippy or a punk
They just need to be shown the light
And I'm gonna try
And I'm never giving up
I'm gonna dig it up in time
And we'll burn down the towns
Mix their ashes with the ground
To make our soil rich and black
And we'll plant some seeds
And we'll grow tall trees
