Boca Raton, Florida
Boca Raton /ˈboʊkə rəˈtoʊn/ is the southernmost city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States, incorporated in May 1925 (first incorporation in 1924). The 2014 population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau was 91,332. However, approximately 200,000 people with a "Boca Raton" postal address reside outside its municipal boundaries. Such areas include newer developments such as West Boca Raton. As a business center, the city's daytime population increases significantly. It is one of the wealthiest communities in South Florida. Boca Raton is located 43 miles (69 km) north of Miami and is considered one of the principal cities in the Miami metropolitan area.
Boca Raton is home to the main campus of Florida Atlantic University and the corporate headquarters of Office Depot and ADT. It is also home to the Evert Tennis Academy, owned by professional tennis player Chris Evert. Town Center Mall, an upscale shopping center in West Boca Raton, is the largest indoor mall in Palm Beach County. Another major attraction to the area is Boca Raton's downtown, known as Mizner Park.

Mizner Park
Mizner Park is a lifestyle center in downtown Boca Raton, Florida. Located at Mizner Park is Lord & Taylor, numerous specialty retailers and restaurants, apartments, and offices. The center is home to rated eateries Max's Grille, Yard House, Villagio's, and Uncle Julio's. The Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park is located on the north end of the development, which includes an amphitheater and the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Cooper Carry designed Mizner as a classical Mediterranean revival town center. Lord & Taylor announced construction in fall of 2011 and had its opening in the summer of 2013.
History
Previously, the site of Mizner Park was a conventional enclosed shopping center called Boca Mall, which opened in 1974. Boca Mall was originally anchored by Britt's and Jefferson Ward. The former closed in 1982 and was temporarily occupied by IBM offices until 1985, when it was converted to Levitz Furniture. In 1989, Levitz relocated and Jefferson Ward closed. The closure of these anchors led to the mall's demolition and redevelopment.

Addison Mizner
Addison Cairns Mizner (December 12, 1872 – February 5, 1933) was an American resort architect whose Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style interpretations left an indelible stamp on South Florida, where it continues to inspire architects and land developers. In the 1920s Mizner was the best-known and most-discussed living American architect. Mizner was the visionary behind the development of Boca Raton, Florida.
Early career
Born in Benicia, California, he traveled as a child around the world with his father, Lansing B. Mizner, a lawyer and the U. S. minister to Guatemala, who was recalled to the United States in 1891 by President Benjamin Harrison after the Barrundia Affair.
Little is known about Addison Mizner's sketches and artwork prior to his architectural career, but his subsequent work shows him to be a fine draftsman and an artist who painted beautiful watercolors.
Although he lacked formal university training, Mizner served a 3 year apprenticeship in the office of San Francisco architect, Willis Jefferson Polk, eventually becoming a partner. Later, while traveling in Hawaii, he co-authored a book with Ethel Watts Mumford entitled The Cynic's Calendar of Revised Wisdom for 1903. The book was an unexpected success and spawned seven sequels. Later, he also wrote with her The Limerick Up To Date Book (1903) and The Complete Cynic (1910).

Intracoastal Waterway - Fort Lauderdale & Boca Raton, FL
Video compilation of my various times on or around the Intracoastal Waterway in south Florida. The Intracoastal is a channel of water that runs parallel to the ocean, separated by the A1A. In order to get to the ocean you have to pass over the Intracoastal via various drawbridges that open at designated times. So in the same way that encountering TriRails, Amtraks and freight trains is a regular part of life in this region, so is the Intracoastal and the bridges. :) A large portion of the video was taken while riding the Fort Lauderdale water taxi on a couple of occasions, which begins in downtown on the New River, before eventually connecting up to the Intracoastal. All footage shot with the Sony Bloggie MHS-T20 were initially done as test footage but afterward I decided to make a short feature with this camera.
While searching for a small consumer but professional quality HD camera, I stumbled onto this model by accident. After reading the reviews I thought I would give it a shot as it costs about the price of a battery for my professional cameras.
The quality is amazing but the camera has many flaws and if you understand them you can work around it to create awesome looking videos.
The main problem is the focusing. focusing goes off in lighting and when subjects focal length changes. There is no zoom to consider and wide angle is the only angle. Fast panning can cause unstable results, and good lighting is a must as well.
For travel and a pocket camera I have not found anything better in this price range.

Video compilation of my various times on or around the Intracoastal Waterway in south Florida. The Intracoastal is a channel of water that runs parallel to the ocean, separated by the A1A. In order to get to the ocean you have to pass over the Intracoastal via various drawbridges that open at designated times. So in the same way that encountering TriRails, Amtraks and freight trains is a regular part of life in this region, so is the Intracoastal and the bridges. :)
A large portion of the video was taken while riding the Fort Lauderdale water taxi on a couple of occasions, which begins in downtown on the New River, before eventually connecting up to the Intracoastal. There are three main types of water taxi boats used - the smallest, which holds about 15 people, the mid size which holds about 40, and the big double decker complete with a bar and restrooms. You'll see all three types featured in this compilation. Vids were shot from aboard all three as well. The benefit of a daily ticket is that you can ride the water taxi for the entire day, getting on and off at any stop, and transferring around as much as you want. When you get on and off you never know which water taxi is going to be the next one to come by to your stop. Ride it around enough and you'll eventually get to try out all three boat types. When riding the water taxi the snarky/cheeky/semi informative narration comes with the ride, so, there's not anything I can do about that, though a lot of people may find some of it interesting. I interspersed some of the water taxi vids with corresponding video taken from land at the same spots, to give a little variation in perspective.
One of my favorite places to view the Intracoastal is Gumbo Limbo Environmental Center, here in Boca. The Ashley butterfly trail ends at a small patch of white sandy beach along the Intracoastal where you can sit on some benches and watch the boats go by among the mangroves. Another favorite spot is from Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, in Fort Lauderdale. Both are in this vid. (it happened to be high tide when you see the patch of beach at Gumbo Limbo in this vid, so, there wasn't much of a beach happening at that moment. :D ) And apologies in advance for any vids that have shakiness - some of my earlier vids had more of that going on before I became more mindful and tried harder to keep things level while videoing. Most of the water taxi vids are actually amazingly level, but.....that's because I tried *insanely* hard. :D Which is not always easy to do actually when you're in a boat, but, I just kept my camera propped on the water taxi rails.
