The Maharashtra Government has given a clearance to two city based operators to start a water taxi service from Mumbai to Mandwa The Indian Government has for first time permitted such water taxis which will cut down its journey time to 15 min from 75 min at present. The service is expected to start within a month.
Parag jain, the chief officer of the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) said each water taxi is permitted to take only 12 passengers & the fare fixed at Rs. 1000 per person per ride. He also said, " We wanted to open one sector first. Other trips such as Gateway to Elephanta , Gateway to Jawaharlal Nehru port trust , Gate way to Mora & Gateway to Navi-Mumbai can be started later as the present route gets popular".
Ocean Blue & West Marine are two Mumbai - based firms will ferry the boats which will be painted only in yellow to distinguish from others. The taxi not only cut down journey time but also increase no of commuters easy & relaxed travel to work & home with fresh air & no pollution . The boats are so designed that they do not sink making safe journey.

Remember we told you that we spotted Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan with her hubby Aayush Sharma and mommy Salman Khan at Jaipur airport?
Well, Arpita actually had made her plan to spend some time with her family in Mandwa and also be part of her brother’s shooting of Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Mandwa – Kihim at Amazing Maharashtra
Mandwa
Mandwa is a village in Raigad district, Maharashtra, India. It is popular as a weekend beach destination from Mumbai city, mainly because of the direct Ferry services available near Mandwa Beach to and from Mumbai.
In movies, Mandwa has been popularized by Amitabh and Hrithik's Agneepath series respectively.
Transport
Mandwa serves as the changeover point for Ferry services from the state capital of Mumbai and buses bound for the district headquarters at Alibag. It is close to Kihim beach. Mandwa beach lies 6 kilometers from Rewas and close to Mandawa town.
In 2011, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), proposed to run roll on roll off (RORO) services from Ferry Wharf to Mandwa.

Thakur Nawal Singh, the Rajput ruler of Nawalgarh and Mandawa, built a fort in 1755 to protect this outpost. The township that grew around the fort soon attracted a large community of traders, who settled here.
