Life

Life is a characteristic distinguishing physical entities having biological processes (such as signaling and self-sustaining processes) from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased (death), or because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate. Various forms of life exist such as plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea, and bacteria. The criteria can at times be ambiguous and may or may not define viruses, viroids or potential artificial life as living. Biology is the primary science concerned with the study of life, although many other sciences are involved.

Throughout history there have been many theories about life including materialism, hylomorphism and vitalism. Even today it is a challenge for scientists and philosophers to define life. The smallest contiguous unit of life is called an organism. Organisms are composed of one or more cells, undergo metabolism, maintain homeostasis, can grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce (either sexually or asexually) and, through evolution, adapt to their environment in successive generations. A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere of Earth, and the properties common to these organisms are a carbon- and water-based cellular form with complex organization and heritable genetic information.

Dream

Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur usually involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. The content and purpose of dreams are not definitively understood, though they have been a topic of scientific speculation, as well as a subject of philosophical and religious interest, throughout recorded history. The scientific study of dreams is called oneirology.

Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or memorable.

The length of a dream can vary; they may last for a few seconds, or approximately 20–30 minutes. People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The average person has three to five dreams per night, and some may have up to seven; however, most dreams are immediately or quickly forgotten. Dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full eight-hour night sleep, most dreams occur in the typical two hours of REM.

Vance Joy

James Gabriel Keogh (born 1 December 1987), better known as Vance Joy, is an Australian singer-songwriter. He signed a five-album deal with Atlantic Records in 2013. Also, he released his debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing in March 2013. His song "Riptide" was voted number 1 on the 2013 Triple J Hottest 100. Joy released his debut studio album Dream Your Life Away on 5 September 2014 in Australia and on 9 September 2014 elsewhere. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 he won Best Male Artist.

Early life and football career

Prior to his music career, Joy was a promising Australian rules football player. In 2008 and 2009, he played for the Coburg Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), winning best first year player award in 2008. He still continues his support for the club, as Coburg's number one ticket holder as of 2015.

Joy graduated from St Kevin's College, Toorak in 2005, notably achieving a perfect study score of 50 English. Joy later graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws.

Dream Your Life Away

Dream Your Life Away is the debut studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy. It was released in Australia on 5 September 2014 via Liberation Music. The album was released on 9 September 2014 in the US via Atlantic Records and worldwide via Warner Music. The album has peaked to number 1 on the Australian Albums Chart. The album includes the singles "From Afar", "Riptide", "Mess Is Mine", "First Time", "Georgia" and "All I Ever Wanted".

A "Deluxe Edition" was released on 4 September 2015, consisting of two new tracks and five live tracks..

Background

During a performance in Boston, Vance Joy explained that the song "My Kind of Man" included advice his uncle once gave him when he was young. But he later learned from his father that the quoted advice was actually from a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Vance Joy noted that though the lyrics changed, the message stayed the same: "Find something you love and understand.”

Singles

"From Afar" was released as the lead single from the album on 21 January 2013. "Riptide" was released as the second single from the album on 21 May 2013, the song has peaked to number 6 on the Australian Singles Chart and number 10 on the UK Singles Chart, the song has also charted in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland and United States. "Mess Is Mine" was released as the third single from the album on 9 July 2014, the song has peaked to number 33 on the Australian Singles Chart. "First Time" was released as the fourth single from the album on 4 August 2014, the song has charted in Belgium. "Georgia" was announced in February 2015 as the fifth single. It has currently peaked at number 11 on the Australian Singles Chart. The sixth and final single spawned from the debut album was "All I Ever Wanted", released in May 2015.
